View Full Version : We Are Marshall
tonybradley 11-16-06, 02:38 PM I've read there were great responses for this movie last night at the College Hall of Fame. Supposedly, Will Smith was there and he was in tears. I have a hard time believing that many folks outside of the WV area that are or were Marshall fans will have any desire to see the movie. I just wish they would have made the movie when Randy Moss, Chad Pennington or Byron Leftwich played when they were a good team. Too bad that it's coming out when Marshall switched to a new conference, new coach, young team, losing record, etc. Waner Bros. is so high on this movie, they are making it their Holiday Movie, starting on 12/22.
Just curious. How many out there plan to see this movie?
It's on my Netflix queue.......

ROFL! I'm not sure if you're serious or not(I'm guessing you're not), but I can't stop laughing at this. Or mds54's original comment. My eyes are welling with tears right now.... :D
logain2000 11-17-06, 01:21 PM I have no desire to see this movie because the director McG is a hack.

I am completly serious. you have never seen a trailer for a movie that you thought was interesting, but then completly forgot about it by the time the DVD comes out? I have and I do, so if I see something interesting, I add it to my queue.

No worries dav, I do the same thing as well.
Heck there are currently 25 movies in the "saved" portion of my queue! :D

For the record, I wasn't laughing at anyone in particular, moreso the tone of the posts. It just struck me as funny when I read it this morning. I guess I couldn't imagine putting something in your queue that isn't even in theaters yet. You learn something everyday!

I plan on seeing it. Even though I'm die hard blue and gold, it's a great compelling story.
Rakesh.S 11-20-06, 11:21 AM zero interest
sick and tired of these sappy sports movies
Beeswax 11-28-06, 10:49 AM lol yeah, theres too many of those going around
archiguy 11-28-06, 11:09 AM I'll see it, being a WV native; I remember when the crash happened. The whole state was stunned. And it's got a fine cast, including Dr. Jack Shepard and Al Swearengen (this time w/out the pottymouth :p )!
tonybradley 11-28-06, 02:30 PM I'll go see it, but will wait until the local crowds die down.
I'm curious to see how they do the movie. It's a sad story, but it's not like they went on to win a National Championship directly after. I'm curious to see it though.
They showed the full trailer last night during a commercial break of Friday Night Lights on NBC. Can't wait, looks like a winner!
Was Marshall in the MAC during the time of the crash?

I didn’t follow the Uruguayan rugby team either, but I thought Alive was an excellent movie. I didn’t live in Indiana, but thought Hoosiers was great. ;) :D I did live 10 miles from T.C. Williams (Remember The Titans) and thoroughly enjoyed that. FINALLY, a movie about a team in my own backyard! :D This will be a rental for me, which is all I do anymore, but I will definitely watch it. I always enjoy sports movies and I’m sure this will be no exception.

I'm not sure, I'll have to check that out. They were in 1A at one time, then moved down to 1AA then back up to 1A in 1998 or so. The plane was returning from a game against Eastern Carolina I believe.
Mntneer 12-01-06, 11:06 AM No, they were not in the MAC. I'm not sure which conference they were in back then, as conferences in those days were all over the place.
They did drop to I-AA where they enjoyed a great run of success, probably the best I-AA program throughout the late 80's/early 90's, but then moved back to I-A in '97.
wmwilker 12-27-06, 12:11 PM Any word on this movie?
Rotten Tomatoes has it at 49%.
Anyone seen it yet?
Rakesh.S 12-27-06, 12:56 PM it flopped badly over the weekend.

I haven't seen it. My sister in law and her husband has seen it 3 times. They are Marshall Grads, so I took what they said with a grain of salt.
My buddy from Baltimore called me today and said his family saw it over the weekend and it was by far the saddest movie he's ever seen. He said they all gave it an A+ and stated anyone that liked sports would love the movie.
I was thinking "DVD Rental" until my friend with no ties to Marshall or this state said it was an incredible movie. Now I'm wanting to go check it out.
Yahoo Users had it at an A. I listen to normal folks before any critics.
I saw this movie over the weekend and I can say without a doubt that it was one of the best sports movies I have ever seen. It did a great job of capturing the feeling following the crash and telling the very emotional story that had a great affect on the school, the state of West Virginia and the Marshall football team in 1970. I would highly recommend this movie to all. Great film!
Beeswax 01-02-07, 03:31 PM im planning to see this movie too when i get the time!
kevinp8192 01-20-07, 01:10 AM Just saw this tonight. GREAT movie. Went with my sister and we both loved it. And for those wondering, this movie was as much a sports movie as "October Sky" was a rocket science movie. It's very moving--I was on the verge of tears throughout, and one scene pushed me over the edge.
I only resurrect this thread just because I've been complaining about the crappy movies I've seen lately, and this is actually a really good one. I've now seen 4 recent movies lately I've either loved or really liked (Rocky Balboa, Little Miss Sunshine, We Are Marshall, and The Descent). I hope to see many more good movies from the fall/holiday season on DVD.
thumperxr69 12-02-07, 01:39 PM OK..Looks like I will resurrect this thread again. I just saw it last night and I was moved. I don't classify myself as an expert (even thought I have seen over 300 movies i nthe last 2 years :D ). Very convincing performances left you rooting for everyone. Very touching.... Not to many family films that I can whole heartedly recommend. Maybe a tad bit long and some tighter editing could have helped but that would be only criticism.
