I'm pretty sure it just depends on the person behind the counter -- I tried to price match similar offers in the past and was told that they would only match the price on the product, not match an offer for another free product, which is what the Walmart offer was. At any rate, I was pleasantly surprised when they gave it to me.

(I also got Best Buy to "price match" the free remote offer on Walmart.com).

Interesting. They must react differently in different markets. When I read online about the Walmart deal I tried going to Walmart but they had never heard of the deal. I then showed them it on their own website and they said it was a web special only and not possible in any store purchase, at theirs or any other location. I then asked if they could just match their online offer and they refused. I called a couple other local Walmarts and they all said the same -- I could only get that deal online. I then tried Best Buy and they wouldn't honor it because, they said, they didn't match online pricing and since it wasn't offerred at the stores locally it didn't count...

This thread has been dead for months, but there are a lot of new PS3 owners out there NOW, including me, so I figured I'd try reviving it!

Here's my initial 1 month review of the PS3 over in the Blu-ray forum if you want to read it: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13800962#post13800962

The PS3 just keeps giving and giving. :) I've had my 40 GB model for almost 2 months now; purchased mainly for the BD player (or so I thought). After discovering the streaming capabilities using TVersity (I use that everyday!), accessing content off a USB drive, slide shows with my own music, watching a ton of BD movies, etc. I finally found some time and signed up for the PSN.

I've downloaded a variety of game demos and HD trailers, movies, etc. and all have worked flawlessly. I'm not much of a gamer, but after spending a few hours on the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune demo, the marketing gurus have another victim... I mean customer. ;) The demo was awesome, and really drew me in to the story, game play and ambiance so I ended up buying the full version. I'm so bad at these things, it'll keep me busy for months trying to beat it! Next up will probably be MLB 08 The Show - now that was a fun demo! The game play, realism and fun factor were huge. Not bad for a BD player <grin>. It's been a good 10+ years since I spent any serious time gaming and that was mostly PC based, so like others have posted, the PS3 has drawn me back into gaming as well. I guess the next step is getting my butt kicked in online play.

I'm also looking at options for a new AVR that supports lossless sound, as my 5 year old Denon (no HDMI) does not.

I would encourage anyone on the fence about picking up a PS3, to go for it. There are a number of deals now (Walmart $100 Blu-ray gift card, Amazon bundle, CC free Blu-ray disc remote, plus the Sony $100 credit card discount, etc.) which make a purchase more attractive, financially. The PS3 is probably the most versatile electronic device I've owned.

The feedback and information in both this and the Blu-ray forums are amazing. I rarely ventured out of the HT threads until the last couple of months and I've learned tons. Let's hear from other new owners and PS3 veterans!

Circuit City's ad (starting tomorrow) show's a free Blu-ray remote with purchase of a PS3. No free movie, my bad - I was thinking of an Amazon promotion. Most of these specials are posted in the "Blu-ray Player Special Deals " thread over in the Blu-ray forum.

So I just picked up a 40gb from Best Buy on Wed. It was a replacement for my 2nd 360 that went out on me (replacement plan is a must!) They let me exchange my dead 360 straight across for the ps3! I love it. I bought a Dualshock 3 as well, but realized yesterday that they are coming out with the MGS4 bundle with the dualshock with it.

Anyone know if they'll put the dualshock's in with the standard 40gb ps3's when they release the MGS4 bundle? If so, I might just take mine back and see if I can exchange it for that so I'd have two Dualshocks, the regular just doesn't feel right to me.
