Has anyone been able to register their PS3 online yet?
http://www.register.us.playstation.com

Not the playstation network, but the hardware registration. It won't take the number from the back of my PS3 or the number on the warranty card.

cannot get 1080p through hdmi on 50 inch sxrd kd-r50xbr1

this is very frustrating because i was told by both best buy and sony that i should be able to achieve this resolution

Can get 1080p through HDMI on 42 inch Westinghouse (LVM 42W2). However, image contains moving white sparkles around much of the text and practically anything in motion on the screen. Bumping the resolution down to 720p solves the problem, but does not make me happy!

This is incorrect. It can receive 1080P. Though there are some issues with the early models not being able to accept 1080p correctly through HDMI due to a weak chip.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this was the main problem with the first xbr TV's. They DO NOT accept 1080p inputs. Im afraid you are SOL.

How about no. The XBR1 does not accept 1080p on any input, though it only displays 1080p, upscaling and/or deinterlacing to get there. The A2000 and XBR2 take 1080p over HDMI only. Check the XBR1 owners thread in the Rear Projection forum.

I can't wait for a PS3 for my 60XBR1, but I'll be doing 1080i output just like I do with the 360.

For what? Sounds like you didn't do enough research on the set... Sony never advertised as capable of 1080p inputs. The set IS a 1080p set since it only displays 1920 x 1080 progressive and has a fine deinterlacer.

Now if BB (or their salesschmuck) lied to you, you might have a grevience, but that's unlikely, though it's possible their salesguy just didn't know what he was talking about. In any case, difficult to prove unless you have it in writing (which is extremely unlikely).

Not that I think you'll see much benefit from 1080p HDMI versus 1080i over HDMI with your TV doing the deinterlacing.

No since any display that is 1080p will take a 1080i signal and adjusted it for 1080p.

Only one problem is that the PS3 doesn't output a 1080i signal. So early adopter with CRT projection TVs that can only display 480i/p and 1080i are screwed. IGN did some tests and it will default to 480p. Bad news for owners of these sets.

a7las, did you try 1080p via component cable or with a HDMI --> DVI cable to the DVI connector of the 42w2?

You cannot get 1080p on component. It must be VGA, DVI, or HDMI.

oldbucsfan, if you say that it's impossible to output 1080p via component, you're wrong since Xbox360 can output 1080p with componant cable.

But if you're saying the PS3 doesn't output 1080p via component, then that might be true.

According to Westinghouse's specs, it does not accept 1080p over component cables.

No, I have not tried a HDMI to DVI adapter because I don't own one. I was hoping to avoid buying one, but it appears that I have the older model of the LVM 42W2 with the weak chip that you mentioned. I assumed I was fine because I have 1.19 firmware, but it seems that the new and improved 1.0 is better??

I recall reading somewhere that may have been a misprint. I have 360 hooked up via component to the 42" Westy and it certainly accepts a 1080p signal via that connection. It won't play DVDs back at that res, but the dashboard says it's feeding a 1080p signal and the TV says that's what it's receiving.

Having an audio problem with RR7. I'm hooked up with HDMI to the TV and optical to my AV reciever for sound. If I have Dolby Digital 5.1 selected in audio options RR7 has no sound at all. If I unselect it everything's fine, but then there's no surround for RR7.

Tried a couple of blu-ray movies and a downloaded video with no problems at all.

HELP!

My PS3 will not accept a disc in the disc drive. I have tried PS2 games, Resistance Fall of Man and Talledega Nights and nothing works. Called Sony and the rep I spoke to was clearly using scripting and didn't know it came with a free movie. She told me they will have to replace and can take up to 14 days!!!

When I put in a disc it doesn't pull it in all the way like a car cd player would. I never force it but give it a little nudge and it won't go in all the way. Press the eject button and it starts to eject and then gets stuck and I pull on it for a sec then it comes out all the way. I have powered down several times and tried again. I have tried more than one disc with no luck. I have tried to get the disc all the way in again without forcing it and no luck.

I didn't try it before the update but I don't think the update has anything to do with it.

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks,

J

JThat sounds bad :(. It should just slip right in with hardly any pressure at all. I can't think of anything outside of a hardware malfunction that would cause that.

Unless... (sorry, this sounds really dumb) there was already a disc inside the PS3 somehow when you first tried to insert a disc.

no disc in the drive. If I give it a little nudge it will go in about 90% of the way and that's as far as it'll go and I don't want to force it.

So...questions and comments....

I have a Westinghouse 42w2 rev 1.19. It is a set which does accept 1080p signals through all of it's ports (well...not composite or S-Video...). I know that the HDMI ports have the issue of hot/sparkly pixels for sets prior to the (confusingly newer) 1.0 sets. I would be thrilled to hear about peoples experiences with this set, a PS3, and a HDMI -> DVI connection and component connection. Success? Failure? Results? Thanks!

I am getting a "popping" sound while attempting to watch any Sony BluRay discs. Kingdom of Heaven brings up a DTS-ES soundtrack and sounds great, but Talledega Nights, Underworld and Black Hawk Down all contain PCM soundtracks. I'm not sure why PCM would be giving me this chronic "popping" during playback but any advice would be helpful.

Ok, I can confirm that is the problem. It works fine as long as I don't play a Blu-Ray movie. After I play the Blu-Ray then the sound doesn't work out of the optical output for games....until I restart the system.

Same here. First I played a game, sound was fine. Then I watched a movie, sound was fine. Then I switched back to a game, and no sound. I turned the console to standby and then turned it back on, and everything was fine. I did not have to power it down completely by using the back switch. Otherwise my PS3 was working fine for the past 7 hours non stop. Very quiet and didn't generate too much heat.

Yup. Looks like we all had to figure that one out. After playing a Blu-Ray movie, it seems that the system needs to be rebooted (just a soft-reboot with the controller) before games will play sound properly.

I feel for you, but you know what they will say, don't you? Aka nothing you want to hear. When you call them remind them that MS when the 360 was first released had immediate turnaround and hold them to that standard and when they say they don't have any to swap out because them sold them all (MS did as well), tell them they're not so bright for not keeping 10,000 or so back for replacements.

Well guys I hate to admit it but my PS3 is dead! I played it for a couple of hours then turned it off, about 30-45 minutes later I went to play a movie and no go. Im getting a red blinking light. I read the book on this and the manual states that it overheated and to press the button so that the red light stops blinking and stays solid, after it cools it is supposed to turn green and the system will run again. My system never ran again. The light will turn green for about two seconds and the fans will turn on,then it will beep and go back to a blinking red light. That was last night and this is today so it obviously it had all night to cool off. I called Sony and they said they will send a box and that I am to include: PS3, controller, AV cord, USB cord, power cord and eithernet cord. They said it would take 3-4 days for the empty box to arrive and 3-4 days after they receive it for them to send me a completely new unit. Thats right a COMPLETELY NEW UNIT, not the original repaired.

I am upset of course but I prefer the way they are handling this, then the way MS
did me with my Xbox360. I am getting a one year warranty straight out the box
not a 6month warranty like with the xbox, and instead of resending me the faulty
unit they send me a completely new unit.

I've had my system on for over 24 hours constantly downloading demo's and things...It hasn't given me any trouble. I also copeid a CD and a bunch of pictures and movies onto the system using a Sandisk mem reader with no problem..And had the Picture slidshow with music playing for at least 3 hours so my wife could see it when she got home. I played Resistence FOM and was hooked, No slow downs or skipping as others have reported.I did have mine laying flat and after the problem happened I tried relocating it away from my AV receiver and stood it upright. That didnt change things as it was aready dead. I even tried sitting it outside for an hour last night so that the cool air could get too it but that didnt help. I have a Bush metal and glass console that is wide open and had my PS3 at least 4" away from the receiver. They told me that they would be sending me a completely different unit but being that the are so short on systems Im kinda scrathing my head on that one. I cant believe nobody else has picked up on this.. but maybe the problem is you..

or your setup..

Your 360 kept dying.. even though it was fixed, tested, replaced or whatever.. and as much as you complain and bytch about its MS fault.. you get a PS3 and dies on the same day..

Something is really wrong with this picture.. maybe your outlets are outputting the incorrect voltage or something.. seriously..

Daekwan, I have everything hooked up to a surge protector, When I had the 360, it was hooked up to the same surge protector, its a brand new one at that. I also considered the outlets as this is an add on room but, all my other equiptment: TV, AV receiver, cable box, etc. Has ran properly from day one. I am not the only one in existence that has had a 360 go out and more then once. Trust me everything is hooked up right and using quality cables. My one and only problem with MS other then the fact that they dont have a model with HDMI and a built in HD-DVD player was the fact that they wouldnt give me a new console they just would switch out the defective part and send the same one back and the fact that the waranty was only 6months and that I had to pay an inital $130 to have it repaired because of faulty parts, I can understand paying the money if it was negligence or missuse on my part. I am guilty of wanting more for my money and wanting every other hard working American worker to get quaility for their money. Thanks!

Thanks!

Maybe you can get a friend to 'sacriface' their next gen console either 360 or PS3 and test their unit at your house for 24 hours..

Just seems that with systems dying over and over.. different systems by different manufacters that something isnt right..

I guess when you get your replacment PS3 will know for sure rather its your equipment or not causing the problems..

I am a very honest person and sometimes people dont like the truth, that makes me less then popular on here but I think people should hear the truth. I have no agenda other then the hope that my bitching and others with the same might catch the attention of someone within the industry that will look into any problem. What better place then AVS forum as it seems to attract more of the right people. In this day and age consumers dollars arent appreciated as they once were and the sad part of it all is it happens to Americans by American Corps. Thats All

Daekwan, I am the only person in my circle that buys consoles, everyone else are straight PC people or dont have the funds that I am luck to have to buy a new console everytime one comes out. If I do get another console from Sony and it fails then that really wont tell me anything because it will contain the same parts that might be faulty wide spread. Again if there was something wrong with voltage in the plugs of my houses electrical system then my surge protector would let me know about it, and my other equiptment would be suffering the same fait, but thats not the case. The only thing I can think of is if its not supplying enough voltage rather then too much. Other people experienced multiple failures with their 360s as well so it is not just me. I have a feeling others might experiece failures with their PS3s, some wont. Its how the manufacturer handles the problem that makes the difference.

Your console messed up after you powered it off. and later powered back on.

After watching a movie for a bit or playing a game the fan will kick on. What I do, is afterwards with no game or movie running, leave the system going that way the fan can continue to cool the system (maybe for 5 minutes or until the fan shuts off) then power it off. I'm going to treat it like the may my projector gets cooled.

Hiya,

That would be cool if there was a discrete IR code for the PS3 that allowed the fan to stay on for five minutes...

With that said, I will NEVER buy a PS3. Don't get me wrong, I was there on Launch Day for the PS1, PS2, and PSP. I am done with Sony. I have also purchased every new system on Launch Day since the Genesis...yes this includes the TurboCrapix-16 and the 3DO!!!

I have my 360 and pick up my Wii tomorrow AM!!! WOOT!!! :D

Yeah, I wonder what is up with that! I got the game and it won't run in 1080p, only 720p. I was a little upset, cause the back of the box clearly says 1080p....

THat is strange, I haven't ran into that problem yet. I played Ricky Bobby Blu-Ray and went back to play all the demo's and the machine is still runnng...Are you guys having problems with playing a game disc after playing a Blu-Ray movie? If so, I haven't tried that yet since I have no game discs..

It's only game discs that are affected, not demos on the HDD (at least for me). I only have this problem after I play a Blu-Ray movie, then try and play a PS3 game disc right afterwords.

If I try and run a demo, the sound is fine.

Another problem to add to list: Playstation 2 (and probably 1) games do not display correctly. There's already a thread about this but I thought it should be here too.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=8935041#post8935041

I did some testing with a couple of PS2 games and there's no doubt about it: Edges are way too jaggy both in game and cut scene videos too. I tried HDMI, component, 480p, 480i, all with the same results. I'm very familiar with the way games on the PS2 look on my TV and this isn't right. The PS3 is doing something funky. The games I tested were FFXII and Mercenaries. It's possible this problem is limited to certain games, but I doubt it.

Besides being ticked at Sony obviously, I'm really disappointed with Gamespot, IGN, etc. who all should have caught this kind of stuff in their time with the PS3. Between this and the 720p/1080i problem it seems they're really doing a poor job.

tlreddragon, Im starting to believe that its going to become a fact of life with the first batch of consoles from any manufacturer. Its something that we "early adaptors" are going to have to accept. I was certain that the PS3 would be trouble free, but I was wrong in that reguard. The more advanced these systems get the larger the room for something to go wrong. Dont forget as alot of people have that it happened with the xbox360s and it appears that they have finally worked out all their bugs, Its going to take time with the PS3 as well. Nintendo Wii, who knows, its not as advanced but there will be problems with those, most likely on a smaller level.

Hiya,

You must be kidding right??? IGN and the rest of the media-whores probably have gag-orders not to talk about hardware/software crashes...Why create even more of a frenzy when you have one on hand already...that's like throwing gasoline on a roaring fire.

If any of you PS3 owners did your research on the darn machine prior...you probably would have reached the same conclusion I did...wait!!! The information was out there regarding the failure rate of the Blue-Ray Diode...But I can also understand the impending desire to play a new console first...

Don't get me wrong, I was there at launch day with credit card in hand for the PS1, PS2, and the PSP...so it is not that I am a 'fanboy' or anything of the sort. I have been there for each and every launch since the Sega Genesis.

In the end, I hope that each of your machines are 'clean' with simple firmware updates and the sort. Having to send a brand new machine back, regardless of what you spent on it, stinks... :(

With that said, I am off to pick up my Wii, god I hope this thing doesn't fail...Ugh!!!

I have seen this kinda mentioned but I have a Mits WS-55857 that I bought 5-6 years ago...I have it hooked up via component cables since my TV doesnt have DVI or HDMI.

When I go into the PS3 settings for video and it asks for the highest resolution that my TV will handle I try and select 1080i which is what my TV is and it wont take it....I try 720p and it wont take that either....the best I can get is 480p which blows.

I dont have any game or movie in the drive atm and thats the results I get.....is this the problem others have mentioned that my TV doesnt support input of 720p and the PS3 doesn't output 1080i so I can't see either of them?

Can this be fixed if you first run it through a receiver first?

Had a weird thing happen this morning:

Listened to some music off the hard drive, looked at some photos also off the HD, then tried to launch any of the game demos from the HD and it wouldn't go past the PS3 screen. It would dump back out to the menu screen saying "this operation couldn't be completed" or something like that.

Anyone else see this?

Thankfully, like the Dolby Digital glitch, a reboot cured this.

Unfortunately since your set is an older Mits you'll probably have to run 720p games at 420p until Sony comes up with a fix.

2K7 definitely supoprts 1080p. It's also one of the main pros of the PS3 version and is being touted by 2k sports as having its first real sports game in
"True HD". I'm a member of the 2k boards and yeah, I think a few people are having problems there two. I'm getting a PS3 whenever I can get my hands on one for MSRP and my first game no doubt will be NBA 2K7, so any updates from you guys would be great. Hopefully this is just a case of defective products? Or a software glitch? :(

Well it's odd then because all the rest of the games that are supposed to run in 1080p (Ridge Racer and Marvel) run just fine in that resolution for me. NBA2k7 won't.

as much as id like to be the guy with the positive post... we all know we dont get enough of those... i would be remiss if i didnt drop the skinny on my little problem so here goes.
upon 5-6 hours of Untold Legends my char got stuck (which is normal and can happen in any game once in awhile...) so i <quit> and <load> only to discover that to no avail im somehow a lvl 2 and a diiferent class char??
thats it... my only prob so far and i firmly believe this to be a server issue or maybe my error one way or the other... im not bugged about it as ive since deleted all saved game info and started over. since then i have not had this issue although i have not had the time to build the char up much... i did lvl up some to troubleshoot the <quit> and <load> routine and am happy to say that all seems to be well.
i have had a 360 since christmas and i love it... i have had a ps3 since... well yesterday... and so far i love it too!
they both have their pros and cons but so far im nothing but excited for games to come!

It happens pretty consistently to me and it's the ONLY time the system has crashed on me. The system can handle some of the most advanced graphics on the market (Motorstorm) but it crashes upon the user entering text! Aren't game machines funny?

Hopefully it's just a patch away from being fixed. Other than that, I see great things ahead for this machine. It's stunningly built.

Sounds like a coding bug particular to your situation (possibly specific equipment, etc though it could be any number of variables and still be rare to your situation). As a neophyte coder, I have made infinite loops and memory holes happen before (usually by mistake. Usually. :D ). I expect a patch to solve these issues.

Yup. Looks like we all had to figure that one out. After playing a Blu-Ray movie, it seems that the system needs to be rebooted (just a soft-reboot with the controller) before games will play sound properly.

This happened to me, too! I use the optical out for sound (I don't have a HDMI capable receiver/prepro) and HDMI for video. If I played a Blu-ray and then play a game w/o reboot, the PS3 does not output the DD 5.1 signal (i.e. no sound in games). Going from game to game (luckily I have 2 games :D ) or demo (i.e. Motorstorm) to game seems to be fine. However, sounds in XMB menu work fine in all case.

BTW, I haven't had a lock-up/crash yet... however, I longest time I have had it up was only ~7 hours straight. It is extremely hot after playing Blu-ray movies continuously for ~5 hours (Kingdom of Heaven + Talladega Nights): I put my hand next to the exhaust end and the air was burning hot! :D I don't know if it matters but I think they should have use an external power supply like the 360 to lessen the heat problem.

Say it correctly now the TV does display 1080P, it just cannot recieve a 1080P signal.
This is a misprint from Cnet that has been discussed for a while. The westinghouse 42inch was disontinued and a new 42 inch was replaced by it that only does 1080i/720p if I am not mistaken, but the disontinued 42w2 does and can accept 1080p natively though hdmi, dVI

Figure I'd post my experience setting this up...and I can say pretty much that I've not experienced any of the issues expressed by members above. From removal of the unit, going through the setup as the manual states, to the system update, and then playing both R: FoM and Untold Legends. My only 'bad' experience was downloading the System Update took forever over 802.11g, but that's my fault. Gonna start running CAT-5 this weekend to alleviate that issue now.

Home System Setup...
1. Hitachi Ultravision 60VS810A, native 720p and 1080i
2. Kenwood VR-8020 HT Receiver (yes it's old, but it's 5.1 DTS/DD/etc and so far suits me fine, but am starting to look for a new one w/HDMI pass-through)
3. PS3-to-HDTV via HDMI

1) I have the digital audio problem too (played Blu-ray movie and then tried to play game). I'm sure a software upgrade will fix this.

2) I, too, am upset about NBA2K7 not displaying 1080p. The packaging is very misleading. I may take it back to GameStop but trying to prove my case to one of the knuckleheads at my local store will be a nightmare. The clerk that rang me up told me this game was cancelled before I walked over and grabbed it off the shelf. Isolated situation but my local store hired ignorant goonies. I can only imagine myself explaining 720p vs. 1080p.

Might want to run it 'dirty' first to test. My speeds online are terrible and I don't know why. Figured it was the wireless and ran a cable straight from my modem. Didn't help at all.

Haven't tried d/l in a couple days. Resistance plays fine either way, so I'm not sure why demo d/l speeds (and the update) were so slow. Even enabled DMZ. Don't know why right now.

Thanks,

J

Good news is I got my return box the very next day after I called them and and they received it today and I am receiving a brand new one from sony tomorrow morning. Talk about fast.... They tell you up to 14 days and by the time I get my new replacement (not a refurbished one mind you) I will have only went one full day without it.

Thanks,

"I seem to be having playback problems on my Toshiba 36HFX72 when using my PS3. I have it connected through component cables, and the PS3 is set to 720P. I am getting purple "scan lines" that slowly move up the screen. I checked the cable I'm using on another system and it works fine. I originally had the system running through a HDMI to DVI cable, but I was getting the same problem. Is this a PS3 issue?"

Those are hum bars caused by a ground loop. This can be a pain to fix. Go to wikipedia and pull up "ground loop" it will give you more detail. Basically your av system is being grounded by two seperate sources, usually the wall socket via PS3 3 prong plug and the coax cable tv cable which is causing voltage feedback thru your av cables to the tv. Well anyway, you need to have everything connected to the same ground, the easiest way is to buy a surge protector with catv coax protection/connectors as it will hopefully ground the catv coax to the same ground as the PS3. Good luck.

These demo downloads are ridiculous. They are so slow, you have to sit there and watch them, and I keep getting an error message about half way through. To top it all off, they start over at 0 when I restart them. I have been trying all morning and have only successfully downloaded Motorstorm.

I keep getting an error message about half way through.

I also hope Sony improves the downloads, and I'll bet they will.

...But the only download I've had an error message for was when I was messing with the controller and lost contact with the PS3 or I hit a button, I can't remember which. My internet conneciton is wired, btw.

I have a hitachi HD CRT 480p/i 720p 1080i and for some reason whenever I set the resolution at 720p or 1080i it seems to kind of produce a wierd thing that shows up noticibly in the background that takes the background color and a shade similar too it and creates diagonal stripes with these two colors that kind of slide to the right slowly. It doesn't seem to have this problem when set to 480p and this problem is there no matter when playing a game BD disk, or just the system menu. It is hooked up through component the wires going from the reciever to the tv are nothing more than red white yellow RCA cables I had lying around that i used until my nice ones come in from monoprice. Any idea if HDMI cable would help or is it something else? If its HDMI I can borrow a friends cable and test it out. Concerning NBA 2K7, I heard that you have to go into custom settings and force 1080p and it will display 1080p.

Where is custom settings?

My PS3 image via HDMI looks washed out...

I have a Samsung 4692 LCD (1366x768) and I have my Sony PS3 connected via HDMI.

My Samsung settings are Contrast 90-Brightness 40 which look great when viewing my HD-DVR via HDMI and my XBOX 360 via Component.

As soon as I switched over the my PS3 via HDMI (@720p auto setting), I noticed the silky smooth blacks which I was use to seeing on cable and Xbox 360 were now a washed out grey image. I had to lower my brightness down to 20 to compensate; but now my tv looks dim and I might have black crush.

Did anyone notice a washed out image when switching their PS3 over to HDMI for the first time?

I'm thinking of going with Component if this will help the situation...

I need some help and I confess to being a total noob, but hopefully I can give you the info you need.

Just got a ps3. I purchased a hdmi to dvi cable. I connected that from my ps3 to my tv which is a planar 42b.

The ps3 wont display anything on either the analog rgb or digital rgb setting. when i try to set it up trhough my ps3 menu via composite, and switch over to analog rgb or digital rgb, i also have no luck.

is my tv incapable of displaying ps3 through dvi? does anyone have any suggestions. i dont know if my tv is hdcp capable, or if that matters.

please help.

DVI is not RGB as far as I know. Are you sure there isn't a input named DVI-1 or something (that's what it is on my TV).

Normally RGB refers to the PC monitor connection.

Folks,

Ok, so I just got my PS3 a few hours ago. My setup is as follows:

PS -> HDMI to Pioneer vsx-74txvi
Pioneer vsx-74txvi -> HDMI to DVI connection to Samsung 56" DLP

Not too bad, eh? Well, no go. I can see the setup menus fine, but I get no sound at all. I have gone through the audio setup manually and automatically without results. I got Sony CS on the phone, who said someone else had called in with Belkin PureAV HDMI cables and had the same issue. I ran out and bought two new HDMI cables. Opened up one, a Philips IIRC, same issue. No sound to begin with and when loading a BluRay movie or DVD, the HDMI light on the front of the receiver just goes off and the TV displays "No Signal".

I have tried the analog cables that were included through the receiver and they do work, so, according to Sony, the unit is A-OK. Anyone have any ideas? I haven't tried HDMI->DVI right to the TV yet, as it is a bit of a pain to get in back there.

Any and all advice is more than welcome and appreciated! The cables obviously work, since I'm on the Sony support site via my PS3 right now! (though still without sound......and I'll lose video again the second I load media.....perfectly fine besides for that! :P).

Thanks!

One more note -

I just ran HDMI -> DVI on the TV directly, the 56" Samsung DLP. Again, nice visuals for the setup menus and nothing when trying to load a DVD-Audio disk. No sound still either, which just makes it more interesting!

According to Sony, you should be able to run HDMI video with optical audio. I haven't had such luck so far though....

Of course, no Component cables to be seen anywhere around here at any stores...

Right now I am using it on a 37inch Sharp LCD and Talladega Nights comes in at 1080i. Of coures my TV isn't a 1080p set, so the best setting to me is 720p, but it won't go to 720p no matter what I do... I think it is the Disc and not the Player on this issue.

Also According to older SXRD ones with the "Ears" these sets up convert the signal to 1080p, and according to most reviews and myself they still look better than the new units that just came out. New units to me look too soft.

Will be interesting to see this looks like on a Pearl FP..... Call of Duty looks great and I am only using Componet cables, haven't tried the HDMI yet

Fan noise is ultra quite compared to my Xbox 360 and my PS2 I just sold.

The only issue I have with the unit right now is not being able to set the resolution on the unit so it uses 720p when playing a Blu-Ray disc, not sure if this is a software issue with the Disc or the PS3 issue. To my eye 720p looks much better.

I think Sony will resolve a lot of these issues, but as a music player it isn't bad does SACDs and decent MP3 playback well. Love the user interface, very simple to navigate through. Well up all night playing with the new toy..... Oh Joy!!

gt9450: Have you done a system update? No issues with my unit but right when I started it up, I went to the systems download menu and did a firmware update. Also it seems there are firmware updates for some games. Call of Duty 3 didn't play right away because it had to upgrade and update some software for the game.

My main grip is this machine should allow you to set the output to your TV 720p.... I have several 720p sets but everytime I put in a movie it gets put on 1080i which at times can look grainy depending on how well the Blu-Ray was mastered.

Try this:

http://ps3.qj.net/Playstation-3-Firmware-1-10-Released-/pg/49/aid/72450

and one more:

Cool thing they will have a firmware that allows PSPs to communicate with the PS3 so you can transfer files and content.

Couple issues here if anyone has suggestions ( I think its a lemon )

1. Discs will not load a small piece of disc remains showing, then it ejects.

No sound still either, which just makes it more interesting! This is really a non-issue, if I'm reading your post correctly. This is because HDMI = DVI + Audio. So because you're connecting the PS3 to your TV directly, you'll be getting video but no audio. :D

A DVD-Audio disc will play only the lossy tracks on the PS3. If you have SACD, it'll play the SACD layer fine.

Question : Have you set your Audio output on the PS3 as LPCM via HDMI?

Can anyone confirm if the PS3 should pass blacker than black for DVDs? I have run through the THX opimizer on several DVDs and the drop shadow is never visible. I am connected to a Panasonic through HDMI and I would really like to discard my old DVD player, but at this point I don't think that's going to happen.

My second problem is the audio will just vanish when watching DVDs. It only happens with Dolby Digital (never DTS) and always seems to be at a chapter switch or going from the DVD menu to the movie and vice versa. After about 60 seconds the audio cuts back on. It is connected through an optical cable to a JVC reciever about 5 - 6 years old and I think the receiver may be the issue. I've always watched DVDs through coax connection to the receiver in the past.

William: I am with you on that one... I don't have an issue with games, I pop them in and bingo they are running at my display setting of 720p, but when I watch a movie they all go to 1080i and there fixed no way of changing this unless Sony fixes this somehow. Also this could be the Blu-Ray Discs, they should allow them to be viewed in 720/1080p, most HD sets right now are 720p/1080i. Unless you have a Sony SXRD (older unit) that upconverts everything to 1080p. I haven't tried it on here yet.

Happened to me on my first system. You'll have to replace and good news is they replace it within 48 hours of you calling usually. What happens is when you load a disc into the system and it doesn't take it all the way you'll have to try and eject it which for me it didn't come out all the way.

I tried playing game demos but they started to hang after the PS3 load screen or whatever. Well turned out I tried to put a disc it again and ejected it and then tried to play a game and it worked (did this while waiting on the return kit). It seems like if the disc drive is in a certain position the ps3 will not load or play games correctly so try to put in a disc and eject it without forcing it either way (in or out) and see if that fixes it...may take a few times.

My disc drive seemed like it would only take a disc halfway and was getting hung up on something, kind of like the 1up video of their defective 20gb system.

Thanks,

J

Anyone else having issues with normal DVD playback? It seems as if it's playing in letterbox format, yet there are still the black bars on the side (as it would in 4:3 ratio). It's cutting off the left and right side of the title credits even. Basically covering up the L/R side during play. I checked the options on the PS3 and they're all set correctly (from what I could find). Blu-Ray DVD's play fine.

For the record, I'm running PS3 > HDMI > Westinghouse LVM-42w2, and (not that it matters, but to be thorough), Optical > Receiver (sound is fine though).

They're very, very annoying, and visible in every resolution over HDMI 480p/1080i/720p.

I think the only thing I can do now is call Sony, report my problems and wait for enough 20Gb units to be available to swap for another to test it to see if it goes away.

So, I received my unit...finally...

I am setting it up...

I am routing audio to my A/V receiver through the digital optical output.

When it comes to selecting the audio output formats, both Linear PCM options are grayed out, selected and cannot be deselected.

Is that normal?

My A/V receiver has decoders for:
- Dolby Pro Logic/Dolby Pro Logic II
- Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital EX
- DTS/DTS-ES

So, I would like to select "Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch." and "DTS 5.1 Ch.", yet, when I do this, my receiver still lights up the "Dolby Pro Logic/II" label and the "PCM" label.

Update 1:

Actually, when I launched Resistance, it went to Dolby Digital, but my display briefly showed a message stating it had received an unsupported audio signal.

So, it seems that even when you set audio to be routed through the digital optical output, it is also routed through HDMI.

My receiver can decode Dolby Digital, while my TV cannot.

Does it also mean the XMB support Dolby Pro Logic/PCM only?

Ok, so 1080p through component is not supported by my tv... that's that.

I've used DVI Detective to record the EDID of a sony XBR3 at Fry's thinking that my tv's EDID is wank. Using XBR3 EDID and 2 DVI-HDMI cables, the tv finally acknowledged the existance of a signal... BUT the screen is completely black and the tv is displaying in 480p. Have tried cycling inuputs on tv, reboot, etc etc. black screen. great.

For those of you who have working HDMI AND also have the component/composite hooked up, when you switch the tv to component/composite while HDMI is active, do you still get a signal? That is, does the PS3 output both component and HDMI simultaneously? It seems that the component connection on mine is on and active while the TV also sees the HDMI black screen signal.

Any ideas on any of this from anyone?

Thanks.

Are you thinking your display is supposed to decode Dolby Digital?

"My receiver can decode Dolby Digital, while my TV cannot"

If you are going HDMI all the way through your display is never going to accept HDMI and also you shouldn't get any sound at all from your display because it isn't hooked up directly from the source if it is going through the reciever.

Oh no, I don't expect my display to decode Dolby Digital.

I set video output to HDMI. The PS3 is directly connected to the display.

I set audio output to Digital Optical. The PS3 Digital Optical output goes to my receiver.

I expected to have no audio output via HDMI.

I have mine connected the same way. I am not getting 5.1 audio for Talladega Nights, only 2 channel PCM. I am guessing that my receiver is too old to decode 5.1 PCM. Anyone else with a similiar problem?

That's because the PS3 is set to LPCM. -> Settings -> BD/DVD Settings -> BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital) -> Set to Bitstream.

That way your receiver can decode Dolby Digital and DTS fine via optical.

I'm not sure how iPod Videos work specifically but on the nano, apart from text files or any other files you upload using the Windows Explorer, no music files can be seen. They are saved in a seperate section of the iPod's memory and not accessible to any programs other than iTunes.

If you want to share a track directly off your iPod, select the tracks then copy them to it using Windows Explorer.

Press triangle, select display all and the hidden music/video tracks will be revealed. ;)

UPDATE

When you first turn on your PS3, it tells you it detected an HDMI device. It asks you whether you want to route video AND audio through HDMI.

The first time around, I answered yes. I figured I could change these settings after the fact.

So, I decided to redo the set-up. I connected the provided composite cables and used the 5-second trick.
(Yet, I did not unplug the HDMI cable, which might have influenced the set-up procedure.)

Alas, it did not change much.

Audio is still routed through HDMI.
In audio output formats, both Linear PCM 2 Ch. options are grayed out and selected. Cannot be deselected.
I added "Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch." and "DTS 5.1 Ch.".

When I browse the XMB, my receiver displays "PCM" and "Dolby Pro Logic II".
In Resistance, my receiver displays "Dolby Digital".
When navigating Blu-ray disc menus, my receiver displays "PCM" and "Dolby Pro Logic II".
When watching "Ice Age: The Meltdown", my receiver displays "DTS".

Every time the PS3 starts to output Dolby Digital, my HDTV complains it received an unsupported audio signal, which is normal since my HDTV does not have a Dolby Digital decoder built-in.
I still don't understand why Dolby Digital is output via HDMI when I set audio to be output via Digital Optical.

More tests to come today...I am going to stress this machine until I know its only problem is software.

I have the audio issue with optical output bluray->game...gonna call Sony tomorrow about it. Also, I might have the same issue as lightning fx, when the system first starts and when it is loading a game the screen gets white snow noise, but I don't hear any popping sound. The picture comes on fine after that and I have no issues. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a similar problem, but only during BD movie playback of movies that have a 640k Dolby Digital bitstream. I am outputting audio via an optical. I have tried multiple optical cables with no luck.

My HD-DVD player outputs 640k Dolby Digital feeds with no problem so I'm 99% certain it has nothing to do with my receiver. I called Sony and supposedly they are working on it, but a week later and they haven't called me back like they said.

Anyone getting crazy black ghosting artifacts on their PS3? It only happens on black material on BD discs - but it even happens on the freaking "cinemascope" black borders. Basically to me, it looks like there's no refresh or wipe of content the BD player decides is "empty."

Or is it just my machine/TV? Nothing else does it. Just BD stuff. Again the symptom is like black screen burn - darker ghosted artifacts from the last image, jet black on grayish black. Especially outrageous with text.

This is through HDMI on Samsung 32 inch LCD.

Any ideas or am I going about it the wrong way?? I have tried to lift open from the front and both sides.

Just tried earlier today to hook-up my ipod video to Ps3 but, it showed no tracks. Is this a compatability issue, me doing something wrong or an upcoming firmware fix??

Any suggestions??

Got it to work tonight and show all the music videos and mp3 songs. It is a matter of using the triangle button once it recognizes the ipod and movie between film and music tab to view the files from the ipod. From there, you can copy each of the files as long as the format is supported by the PS3.

Good luck,

some alone time with it this weekend. There is one thing I find strange, before I installed the update the background was a nice red color, now it's an ugly gray. Whats up with that?
My first system was this ugly gray too, I just assumed it was normal.

I believe the background color is based on month and the brightness (or blackness) is based on time of day or night.

So maybe before you set it up you didn't have the date/time set yet?

One thing they do with the background I like is when you park over a game menu in the dashboard the a background image appears for the game and sometimes gameplay can be seen in the icon.

The game's music theme will also play, which would be cool if the music for different games wasn't was so much louder than everything else.

I am not able to get my Panasonic Plasma (TH-50PX600U) to work with the PS3 via the HDMI cable.I can ,however, connect the PS3 to the Panasonic TV via the AV cable supplied alongwith the PS3.

I checked the HDMI cable with Best Buy who verified that it was working. The cable is a Monster M Series M1000HD HDTV HDMI Cable.

I called up Panasonic customer care and they were not able to help me out although I had configured my TV correctly. In fact, they wanted me to get back to them in case I found a solution to my problem as I was the first person to have reported this kind of issue.

Please help me figure out a solution as I am stuck with 480 p resolution.

Anyone else having issues with 5.1 sound and Talladega Nights? I can only get 2 channel PCM sound from this Blu Ray disk. Its connected via an optical cable. 5.1 works fine on games.

I'm having this problem. "DMRSX" reported the same problem on page 2 of this forum, but I don't think there have been any responses to it. PCM and DD 5.1 tracks stutter and skip every couple of seconds, or faster.

It's not just Talladega Nights, it seems to be any Blu-ray disc with uncompressed PCM or uncompressed Dolby Digital. The only way to listen to it is to drop it down to two-channel linear PCM sound. Blu-ray discs with DTS, however, are working fine for both me and the other guy who posted. He got Kingdom of Heaven's DTS-ES soundtrack working fine, and I have Ice Age 2's DTS working. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's Dolby soundtrack doesn't work either.

It doesn't matter what setting I pick, or what optical input I use on my receiver, or even if I switch to component cables instead of HDMI. However, standard Dolby 5.1 works perfectly through DVD movies and PS3 games (granted, this format is actually encoded on those discs in compressed form).

I have a Sony STR-DE985 receiver using optical, and a Sony CRT XBR TV using the HDMI cable for video.

I called Sony tonight for the second time and they are stumped. They agree with me that there's probably nothing wrong with the PS3 since EVERYTHING else works correctly. However, they claim to not be getting calls about this issue.

They took down my name, number and issue, which they say is the first step in what will require a lot more users calling in about this issue to get it addressed.

However, he did say that there are known "compatibility issues" with certain blu-ray movies (though he claimed not to have a detailed list), and he said that Super Audio CDs currently do not play through the optical cable ... a problem that IS being worked on right now through an upcoming firmware update. Hopefully, that fix will also quietly fix this problem.

Is anyone out there getting a perfect, STANDARD Dolby Digital 5.1 signal (not high-def, uncompressed 5.1) through DD5.1 Blu-ray disc MOVIES on the PS3 while using an optical cable? If so, could you please post details about which movies work, and what receiver you're using?

UPDATE TO MY POST: I noticed a response which said to choose "bitstream" for optical audio in the Blu-ray disc playback settings. I've had this selected all along, and it doesn't correct the problem.

FINAL UPDATE: It's confirmed to be my receiver. For anyone out there having this problem, it's because your receiver can't handle a Dolby Digital signal provided at 640k through optical. There is no option to make the PS3 only provide a 400k signal. Mine was a newer Sony receiver which could handle Dolby Digital EX and DTS, and had lots of component and optical inputs, yet when I took my PS3 and my same cable over to a family member's older Yamaha receiver, the movies' soundtracks played just fine.

Only two problems so far. One seems to be a game problem and the other could be either game or system.

NHL2k7 locks up regularly in various places. 2KSports had no clue. :(

Nope, one of NBA 2K7 PS3's major marketing points was the 1080p support. Notice how 2ksports has PS3 ads as "True-HD" as opposed to the older 360 ads. Trust me, I'm a frequenter of the 2k sports, specifically nba 2k7 boards, on 2ksports.com. I'm pretty much an NBA 2K7 PS3 freak, and if this game really doesn't play at 1080p or can't play at 1080p sometime soon, I'm gonna be really disappointed. I don't have a PS3 yet, but still. Oh-and also, Gamespot's review of PS3 NBA 2K7 (albeit a bad one, check IGN's one for imho the better review) mentioned them running the game in 1080p.

I bought NHL 2007 and RFOM today with my PS3. Both are 720p. MY tv is a GW3 50in. RPTV @788p. NHL looks great, RFOM is incredible. Cut scenes in RFOM to game play are fluid and there is NO difference, it is that good. I think it is better than Half LIfe 2 that I play on my PC connected to my 50in.

I downloaded House of Flying Daggers trailer on my PS3. It was MPEG4/720p although it said 1080p on Sony Store, and it looked less than stellar. I HD DVRed it a month back in 1080i on I believe it was HBO. It looked incredible on my tv. I also have downloaded 1080p WMV clips and they are what HD should look like on my tv. Not like that Talladega crappy compressed BD. I look so forward to seeing what quality BD discs can do, because I know that even though my tv is not 1080p it shows 1080i stunningly.

I have a quick question. Have any of you figured out how to get audio out of both the optical AND the Multi A/V connector. I have my PS3 hooked up to a HDTV via component via the Multa A/V video and audio cables, and route the optical digital audio out to my receiver. I can get audio on either one but not both at the same time so if I don't have my receiver on the TV has no audio OR if I want to run the stereo for better sound it has no sound. Surely you don't have to reset the audio options back and forth :(

Also does this hooked to HDTV VIA hdmi; TV gets audio via HDMI no toslink optical out :(

It's done this to me a couple of times. I think once was during a game. I would bet on it being a hiccup in the PS3 processor? After all, it only happened for 2 seconds over approximately 15 hours of use. My HDMI cable is Acoustic Research. It's not el cheapo, but it's not a Monster cable either.

By the way, you said the sound didn't drop out, because you're using optical. Does the optical audio give you regular Dolby 5.1 on your Talladega Nights BD without dropping out constantly? That's my issue on non-DTS BDs.

I also experienced another HDMI video drop on Speed. This is starting to get annoying. Maybe it is my cable? I will try another one tomorrow and see what happens.

I am running a Sony VPL-VW50 into the PS3. I brought a friends over as well and experienced a drop on his so I narrowed it down to the cable or the HDMI input on the projector (but the input works fine with my HD-A1 and satellite receiver).

For the time being I may just use component as this is very annoying.

OK,

I was able to get pictures/music/videos from my USB drive.

First with the usb drive plugged into the computer, I created a file named PS3. Within the PS3 folder I created separete folders named PICTURE, MUSIC, and VIDEO. (within the video folder I created another folder named 100MNV01 only because that's the way it was set up on my PSP) I don't know if this is ALL necessary but it worked for me.

Next I copied the respective files that I wanted off my computer into their respective folders. I chose some photos and copied them into the PICTURES folder, songs into the MUSIC folder and so on. I had a home video that I copied into the 100MNV01 folder that worked.

Next I plugged the usb drive into the PS3.

I went to PHOTO, scrolled to USB drive, hit the triangle button, selected "display all", chose the PS3 folder, inside the PS3 folder I chose the PICTURE folder, hit the triangle button, and then chose copy. I did that with the MUSIC and VIDEO folders too.

It worked great. Maybe there's other ways to do it, but for now it got me where I wanted to be.

This sounds a lot like what is happening to me. How long do your audio drop outs last? I am using optical audio with a 6 year old JVC receiver. The audio will occasionally just vanish for 10 - 20 seconds on Dolby Digital DVDs - usually at a chapter break. DTS has not problem. If I switch the receiver on and off, the sound returns immediately. That is leading me to thing there is some sort of compatibility issues with the receiver.

Guess I will have to break down and buy one with HDMI. :D

My audio drop outs were constant, like a rapid-fire skipping sound every couple of seconds or so, like a really bad streaming internet connection.

I went back and edited my original post. Unfortunately, it is definitely the receiver that can't handle the signal. The PS3 delivers the full signal, and it's just too much to handle, I guess. I don't know why DTS is immune, though.

Fred does you connection ever drop like when you are going into a website. My internet does this all the time it will say looking for website. Does this ever happen to you?

Not really enough to notice. We have like 5-6 computers and 3 other game consoles going out the router as well (sometimes all at the same time). We had few problems with Comcast Internet. We've probably had more problems with TV service.

I was watching Black Hawk Down on my PS3, and when the movie finished I took it out (eject button) and inserted Resistance for a quick game.

Well, I had no sound coming from my speakers when the game loaded.

Is this normal? I am connected to my Onkyo SR674 receiver using HDMI from the PS3 and LPCM enabled.

After a few minutes, I quit out of the game, and then started it up again...and this time the sound was working perfectly. Is this an HDMI issue, a PS3 issue, or an Onkyo receiver issue?

Weird...

On the thumb drive issues, be sure you have formatted the thumb drive to FAT32; PS3 can not read NTFS formatted drives. I copied a 1.8 Gig Tivo MPEG2 movie over to a Fat32 USB DRIVE under a folder called VIDEO. It plays back fine. I did have to push the triangle button to see it after selecting video from the XMB menu.

This was a bug that should have been fixed with the 1.11 update. What system version are you on?

I have the PS3 updated to the current version. I’m running HDMI out to my projector and optical out to my Lexicon. When I first turn on the PS3 the “Intro/boot” music/sound comes out in 5.1(confirmed by ear and display on pre/pro). When I play a Blueray disk the only audio that I get is 2 channel, not 5.1. I have the selected 5.1 in the DVD setup menu. I have LPCM selected in the setup, in the sound section I’ve selected DTS, DD, ACC and the two 2 channel choices are automatically checked. I’ve tried only DTS, only DD and any other combination. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no way of getting 5.1 LinearPCM out of optical. Even if Sony were to allow 5.1 LPCM via optical (with a future firmware update), it wouldn't matter because there aren't any receivers on the market right now which accept 5.1/7.1 LPCM via optical toslink.

The only way to get LPCM 5.1/7.1 audio from the PS3 is by using the HDMI-out and connecting it to a receiver that has HDMI 1.1 or 1.2 and accepts PCM 5.1 channels.

I bought an Onky SR674 for $549 and it has HDMI 1.1 inputs which accept LPCM 5.1 audio from my PS3.

Confusing? Yeah, kinda.

I've had the same problem the last few times I watch a movie and poped in Resistance, there is no sound. I quit and started the game again and it was fine.

Select Bitstream for optical/SPDIF output.
LPCM is only for HDMI receivers.

That's a mistake on the packaging. NBA2K7 is 720p max. I think COD3 also mistakenly lists 1080p on the back.

NBA2K7 does, in fact, play in 1080p...because I'm playing it right now! The trick is, you have to go into the XMB display settings and scroll all the way to the right, where there is a choice between automatic and custom resolution selection. Choose custom, and uncheck 720p and 1080i. This forces the system into either 480p or 1080p. After this change, the game plays flawlessly in 1080p :)

So it's upscaling the game to 1080p. the native is 720p. Your doing the same thing the 360 would do.

You should be able to browse the entire directory structure of a USB device by pressing Triangle when you are on the device.

cannot get 1080p through hdmi on 50 inch sxrd kd-r50xbr1

this is very frustrating because i was told by both best buy and sony that i should be able to achieve this resolution

Check your HDMI cable. I took a second look at the HDMI cables I bought, and the package says that they can handle up to 1080i. The NEWER HDMI cable (is it 1.3?) can do 1080p, I think.

oldbucsfan, if you say that it's impossible to output 1080p via component, you're wrong since Xbox360 can output 1080p with componant cable.

But if you're saying the PS3 doesn't output 1080p via component, then that might be true.

Xbox 360 cannot output 1080p. You absolutly cannot output 1080p on component cables. That is their big issue right now. Just watch, they will end up throwing an HDMI output on Xbox 360.

my wife picked up a PS3 20GB for my son for Christmas and I want to make sure I can set it all up properly. My setup currently-

Pana TH-50PHD8UK
HR10-250 STB via HDMI blade
Oppo DVD via DVI blade
Sony AV receiver via component (the STB,DVD, and VCR are into the receiver for audio, and VCR through receiver video)

I understand that the PS3 has HDMI output only so what would be better-
buy a new receiver (big$) that has HDMI in/out? (don't want to do this)
buy a hdmi to dvi cable and a 2 way dvi switch?
buy a hdmi cable and a 2 way hdmi switch?

I also think my Sony receiver has only 2 optical audio inputs which are being used for the DVD and STB right now so audio is a concern also. I think what I need is a 2 in, 1 out HDMI WITH 2 in, 1 out optical audio switch, but I can't find one yet.

help and advice please, thanks!

You can get a composite video cable for the PS3 as well. Worst case scenario is that initially you would be doing video over composite along with analog audio (L & R) outputs. Then you could decide which route you'd like to go later. That would be the cheapest way to get you going right away.
It would provide HD quality video. The audio would be stereo only, but you'd be up and running at least.

You likely did. PS3 uses same Multi-AV Out, so PS2 Component cable works on PS3.

Actually, gregster, just to be clear - the xbox360 absoultely can output 1080p over both component and vga. It has been able to do so since the November patch and it works fine and has been confirmed.

Component outputs are perfectly capable of 1080p, it just isn't used a lot. That's because not all 1080p TVs accept 1080p signals over component. Samsungs and Sharps are able to, but not Sony, for example. If you don't believe me, check the specs for Samsung's newest LCDs - they list 1080p as an acceptable resolution over component.

I do agree that MS need to add HDMI somehow.

Just got my PS3 and it has locked up twice when entering text into a form field in the browser. I read others in this thread had the same problem. Using the latest firmware, 1080p through HDMI to a Sony 2500 LCD. *sigh*

Had one video dropout while watching Underworld Evolution. Other than that, it played fine. Seems to be no worse than my HD DVD player...so far.

Actually, NBA 2K7 for the PS3, unlike its 360 counterpart, was designed with 1080p in mind and runs at a native 1080p on capable tvs. Along with some other stuff that I don't feel like mentioning right now.

Yes PS2 composite cables DO in fact work on the PS3 - mine is doing just that. Not need reinvest in cabling if you don't want to.

My question is if the upscaling issue was resolved by 1.30 patch? If so, how exactly does it work? Anyone??

I have a Sony TV, model KV-32SF13, which has component input (YPbPr). I tried to hook up the PS3 through component and I get purple and green hazy horizontal bars that go up the screen? Is the PS3 not capable of doing 480i through component?

Try the new setting with the 1.30 patch that allows you to switch your component out from RGB to YPbPr. It's in the display settings of the XMB.

Plus I will get the oportunity to try it out on my parents Toshiba CRT this weekend to see if maybe its my TV. Any thoughts?

That right there is your issue, I mean who the hell connects a console via component on one end, then on the end scramble it with some CHEAP RCA cables? Imo if I were you, I would connect COMPONENT directly to the TV, or use a pure DIGITAL Connection like DVI or HDMI.
