View Full Version : PS3, HDMI, and HDTV compatibilty
Ward216 10-26-09, 06:45 PM I just recently got a 80GB PS3 and hooked it up to my Samsung LN46A860 and I've been having problems getting the PS3 to properly display in 1080p...
Does anyone know of any issues or why the PS3 doesn't seem to want to display 1080p to my TV, even though it auto detects it as the optimal resolution?
Hi, and yes there are several potential reasons why you have what appears to be a bandwidth related failure. Try these two things:
1) Use another HDMI input on the TV. Usually the side located port will work even when the rear 1x3 grouping fails.
2) Order a new cable like this one below from a known good vendor.

More than likely one of these two suggestions will work for you.

Ward216 10-29-09, 06:20 AM ...as soon as switch it to 1080p, whether the auto setup or the manual custom, i get the snowy effect on the menu screen only.. not a lot of snow just enough to be irritating and no sound issues.
this seems only to be on the menu screen. it plays blue ray dvd's with no issue at all so far.
NOW here is the biggie. when i switch the input from hdmi 1-3 TO hdmi4, one on the side, the snowy issue clears right up. so there is an issue with those ports. seems that i also read on here that several other ps3 users with various hdtv's were having similar issues on their back ports but the side port just to add..
i also added a motorola cable box on ports 1-3 and had zero issues that i could tell. i wish i had a regular bluray player to see if it produced the same issues on port 1-3 that the ps3 did.
I just realized I forgot to mention that you SHOULD disable 10 bit color mode (Deep Color) via the XMB menu by disabling the
SETTINGS / DISPLAY SETTINGS / RGB Full Range (HDMI)
option. This should solve the snow issue that exists only during the XMB and not during BD movies.

Why does there seem to be a 1000 different things you have to do on the PS3 to get things working with HDMI or anything for that matter? I swear I read more topics about ....hold this in till it beeps and go here and change this..OR go there and change that...Just crazy.

lol, you don't have to do any of these things if it works fine out of the box. Mine works fine with several different HDTV's and a projector. But I spent a lot of time researching my purchases. Most consumers don't think further ahead than how to get the big new tv home. As a matter of...
Fact: most HDTV owners (ie: more than 50%) think they are watching HD material when they only have a standard def DVD player hooked up to their new HDTV. Three years ago most owners thought they were watching high def television with their standard def cable box hooked to their new hdtv. Most of these people were less than impressed with the picture.
Well, at least they weren't blind even if they were ignorant.
Hi,
I have an Onkyo 605, PS3 Slim, Samsun LN-4071T and using the Monster 1080p from the PS3 to the receiver.
My old Samsung BD-1500 didn't have any issues with the resolution set to 1080p as my PS3 slim does.
Frustrating...

Tried the side port, seems to work. Any reason why the THREE HDMI ports on the back of the TV give this odd flickering, yet the side port (aka the one you'd like to not use because it sticks out the side) works? You'd figure that on a "higher" end TV like the Samsung LN46A860, that the three rear ports would work.

You'd figure that on a "higher" end TV like the Samsung LN46A860, that the three rear ports would work.I brought the Samsung FPT5084 ~2yrs ago.
I brought the PS3 last XMAS. PS3 at 1080P@60Hz on the side HDMI 3 port caused flicker. 1080P@24Hz on BluRay was OK, 1080i or below were OK. Same flicker problem with different cables. No flicker if connected to the rear HDMI 1 & 2 ports, tried with all the cables.
Recently brought a laptop with HDMI output. The same flicker problem if connected to the side HDMI 3 port. Same flicker problem on HDMI 1 but not as bad. No flicker if drop the refresh rate to 30Hz and 24Hz. So the laptop is connected to HDMI 2 (the only stable port) for media streaming.
All HDMI ports work with Cable and Satellite boxes because they only output 1080i which has less data on the HDMI link.
I think earlier 1080P TVs were not fully tested at 1080P due to lack of 1080P devices. I believe the PS3, laptop, and all my HDMI cables are OK, and the flicker is from the TV. I don’t have a solution. The good thing is that both PS3 and laptop can work on the 5084 but must be port specific.
mikieson 11-05-09, 02:59 PM I will settle this crap in the store before even buying anything. I will demand to hook up a PS3 slim to my LCD 1080p tv of choice before buying. If they want my business they will either cooperate or be without my money.
Really this mess is uncalled for. Dont keep making things that dont work. THIS goes for Microsoft and their junk 360 as well. QUIT MAKING JUNK PEOPLE!!

-Well, Samsung probably didn't make the HDMIx3 interface or the x1 either. The x3 ports all share the same pcb architecture so usually all react the same way. The side port could have more compatible IC parts or it could be as wacky as factoring in the long cable that connects the side port to the controller board affects the signals in such a way as to make it work more reliably.

Nah, not any more. When I see the same issue on a $70K tv I realized that price doesn't matter any more for compatiblity.
I'd still get a new cable from monoprice 'tho. Always good to have a spare or two.
I think earlier 1080P TVs were not fully tested at 1080P due to lack of 1080P devices.
True, the tools and specs were somewhat limited early on. Early adopters always take the highest risk and pay the most for the right to do so. Sadly, DisplayPort shares some of the same problems as HDMI. On the other hand, DisplayPort doesn't charge mfg's a $10K license fee to use the DisplayPort connector and trademarked name the way HDMI does. It also includes backwards compatiblity with HDMI sources and displays and may encroach on HDMI even more so over the next 2 years. With the market in a down turn, more competition for your spending dollar, and looming Democrat sponsored legislation designed to penalize market players we may see a shift away from HDMI in favor of the slightly less expensive DisplayPort tech.
digital4fun 12-20-09, 03:02 PM Well, a solution that worked for me anyway.
Connect both component and HDMI cables to the PS3 at the same time.
Turn on the TV first and make sure you choose the component input.
If using an AVR turn it on next and choose the component input.
Now turn on the PS3. It should come up just fine using the component cables.
It may come up saying its found an HDMI cable. If so, follow the prompts and choose custom. When you are ready to test the resolutions use the "right" button on the controller, not the up, down, or left, but the "right" button. Don't use the button options on the screen. Use the "right" button.
If it doesn't come up saying its found an HDMI cable then go to the next step below.
Go into the PS3 display settings and choose HDMI. Follow the prompts to configure to the resolution your TV will output. Use the "right" button in custom as described above.
Remember you'll need to choose the correct inputs on your TV and AVR for HDMI or you'll have a blank screen after choosing HDMI.
Sometimes you need to do the steps a couple of times until it works correctly.
Good luck. This works on my Panny 58V10 TV and Yamaha RX-V863 AVR.

So much for just plugNplay hu? This is not making my decision any easier here. Matter of fact im about to foget the PS3 and bluray all together and stick with my 4 year old cheap walmart dvd player and stdvds. It will probably be another 5 years before they get this mess to work like it should and then I might take the steps to get it.
digital4fun 12-20-09, 03:34 PM No one said new technology was fool-proof. Getting technology to cooperate between different manufacturers is spotty at best. That's what firmware updates, service packs and the like are for.
Try the steps I mentioned....it's worth a shot.
Beast35 12-22-09, 11:43 PM Oh Boy, here goes, I would like some help.
I just installed for a friend a new Home Theater in his basement. He purchased a Samsung UN55B6000 55" LED TV, a Denon AVR-890, a a Sony PS3 (250GB). When we installed the system we ran two HDMI cables behind the wall as to have a spare (one was a 6m HDMI-G and the other main cable was to be a 6m HDMI-X both from AudioQuest). When we run the PS3 through the less expensive cable HDMI-G everything is working fine, although I am not sure of audio as we are using Revel Concerta on walls for the sound. However when we are running the PS3 through the more costly (supposedly better) HDMI-X we have an issue with only the menu section of the PS3 producing snow. We can play a BluRay through this connection and the picture comes out perfect, we play a DVD and the snow comes back. If the cable were bad we could not get the perfect picture of the BluRay yet the menu and DVD perform poorly.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
digital4fun 12-24-09, 07:26 PM What does the PS3 show for your resolution in Display Settings/Video Output Settings? It's probably showing a current output resolution of 1080p since you said that Blu-Rays are playing fine.
Verify that RGB Full Range (HDMI) is set to Full and that Y Pb/cB Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI) is set to On.
Look at the Video Settings section. Is BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI) set to Automatic?
Hope that helps!
Merry Christmas!
rnjrusso 12-26-09, 01:38 AM I have a Sony KDSR60XBR1 that outputs in 1080i, not p. When I hook up the PS3 thru HDMI cable, nothing happens. Screen stays black in Video 7 (which is where the HDMI cable is plugged). I can hook up the PS3 with the red, white, yellow cables it comes with.
Called Sony and they told me that I cannot hook up PS3 into the 1080i, that I have to purchase a 1080p TV because Blu Ray does not work in 1080i TV's. However, I have read that people are able to do it.
I know the cable works and I know the HDMI port works. Currenty have DVR set up with HDMI.
By the way, it's my brother's PS3 that works fine in his 1080p TV. Also, I have rebooted the PS3 to get the regular cable to work. I just can't get the HDMI cable to work.
Does anyone know what I have to set in my TV and what I need to set in the PS3 to get it to work?
CS062767 12-26-09, 11:10 AM Just opened up a new PS3 and have a wierd situation. Forgive me if this was mentioned somewhere in the 43 pages, but I did not see it.
The PS3 is hoooked up with HDMI and Optical audio. When I set the settings for HDMI to do both, the screen is fine. When I changed my audio settings to Optical, the screen would start "flickering" to the right or left slightly. Never went out, just "jumping" a little. If I switch back to HDMI for audio, it stops.
I just replaced a PS3 in that same spot using the same cables and it did not do this.
Ideas? Send it back to Amazon?

Hi, the XMB outputs 10 bits per color or 30 bits total for RGB. There is no other available source for 10 bit color currently. Either the problem cable cannot handle the bandwidth, or you are using two different HDMI ports on the TV. Usually the HDTV's side port will work while the 1x3 ports on the rear of the set will not. Change your PS3 settings to HDMI = Limited for 24 bit XMB output. http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/rgbfullrange.html
I have a Sony KDSR60XBR1 that outputs in 1080i, not p. When I hook up the PS3 thru HDMI cable, nothing happens.
Have your brother set up the PS3 on his TV for 480i output and HDMI = LIMITED settings as below. Then connect to your TV and turn on the PS3 normally while the TV is already tuned to HDMI-7 input. Once that works you can change settings to 720P or 1080i.

I would ask you to read the back of the game box where it says this game is 720P, but I know zombies can't read.:D Your 1080P TV it will upscale the PS3 signal; if you use the Xbox then it will upscale it's output. I know that they are in 720p but I thought it would be better if my TV would upscale them to 1080i instead......The thing is that my TV isn't upscaling...Thanks for responding....
Ward216 01-01-10, 09:04 AM Zombi3, I guess I'm not sure what the problem is. I was under the impression that you thought that 1080i was better than 720p. The bandwidth is about the same. If you have a fixed freqeuncy display (LCD or Plasma) then your tv will scale all input signals that don't match the native resolution of the display panel. My living room tv is a 1366 x 768 x 60HZ native plasma, but I can send it anything from 480i to 1080p. It will scale up or down all signals that don't match the native res.
Your Samsung 1080p set will upscale all inputs to 1080p all the time. I think you're focusing on a non issue. Even the true 1080p games I've looked at don't appear much better than the 720p counter parts if at all. Uncharted 2 looks better at 720p than anything else I've seen on either system. I think higher frame rates are much more noticable than anything else currently. But, everyone percieves things differently I 'spose.

What's the difference between playing games on 16:10 (computer display format) vs. 16:9 (HDTV format)?
Sometimes, I dread playing video games that has black bars on the top and bottom screen and I was thinking that the display format has to do something with it?

Hi, these options only make a positive difference if your display supports them. Check your owners manual or an owners thread here for info on that. If you've read the last two pages here you'll know these can also cause problems on displays without support for these features. Most common of which is snow at the XMB.

Actually, I have Assassin's Creed II and it states it outputs at 1080p, however, it is only outputing on my Samsung HL61A750 at 720p. For other games, such as MGS4, the output is at 1080p. On the ACII game case it states it only outputs at 1080p if the TV supports HDCP and PS3 is connected via HDMI. I have my PS3 going through an AVR (Sony STR-DG820) via HDMI and then to the TV via HDMI, and my TV supports HDCP, so what gives? Do I need to connect it directly to the TV? If that's the case, I will just put up with it in 720p, cause the game is otherwise great! I actually didn't notice this problem until about a week or so into playing the game. I tried fiddling with all the settings in the game and didn't find anything. I also looked at the PS3 settings and it seemed like everything was set up correctly. I also did some additional searches on the web, and it seems like my complaint is a common one. I'll search a bit more to see what I find.
phlash420 01-13-10, 04:58 PM Hopefully someone can help me with this because it's driving me nuts. I had a 40 gig ps3 hooked up to my Panasonic Viera 720p/1080i tv through a 1.3 HDMI cord (a cheapy). That setup has been working great for the last year. I decided to sell my 40 gig to a buddy and buy a PS3 Slim. So last night i go to set everything up, and for some reason it will not recognize the HDMI. It works with composite and component cables, my optical audio works fine, but i'm getting nothing but a black screen from HDMI. I've gone through the display settings properly, and ive tried all the tricks like holding down the power button for 3 seconds to make the PS3 automatically check for new video options. NOthing is working. My TV has 3 hdmi ports and I've tried them all. Same thing - nothing. I'm going to continue searching old posts in this thread and others looking for an answer, but if you can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

massimj 02-25-10, 01:56 PM I have a new slim PS3 250Gb and tested it on a 10 foot HDMI cable at work. The TV was a Samsung LED DLP 61", and the picture was beautiful. We watched 15 minutes of a BLueray movie, and spent a little time looking through all the settings. Had not problems.
Went home and connected it to the exact same model TV, and a 3 foot HDMI cable that had ferrite cores on both ends. The video was great at 1080P, but after a few minutes the picture would shut off and the Tv would produce a No Signal message. Then the video would try to come back, sometimes it would, and sometimes it would take a few tries before it would. Then the cycle starts again.
I got Sony on the phone and they asked me about the brand of cable I had. It was a Monoprice cable, but I didn't say that. What i said was that I pulled the cable off of my WDTV and it worked fine at 1080 with it. He said that it could be the quality of the cable and that I should try a Sony cable.
I did order a Sony cable via Ebay, but it will be a couple of weeks to get it from Hong Kong.
Has anyone had this same problem?
Did you fix it by getting a new HDMI cable?
The PS3 works at lower resolutions, but if I wanted a lower resolution I would have bought an Xbox.
I love how the PS3 works, how it streams from my Windows Media Center, and how well it plays Blueray. I would like to fix it or send it back for another.
Any help would be appreciated.

I found a Sony cable on Enay for $7.50 and $3 shipping. The one I tested with was not Sony branded, but it is a higher grade Monoprice cable. This problem with HDMI is mostly with the new Slim PS3. Lot's of people who bought a new PS3 and moved the cable from the old PS3, found that the cable was no longer good enough. I guess they could get the PS3 to handle low grade cables at the cost of less than awesome performence for the PS3. I will only buy high quality HDMI cables from now on.

See if your PS3 is set to output Blu Ray movies at 60hz (vs 24) and see if problem persists. Is so, it's most likely the cable. Outputting at 24 frames per second (24hz) can lower your bandwidth enough that a poor cable can work.

Marka1700 03-09-10, 04:56 PM Ward216, I believe it is set to automatic on the PS3. TV says 1080/24P when play blu-ray movies. I have to head to work now but I will have a look at it this afternoon. Hopefull it's just the cable and it can be sort out by Thursday. I don't want to be playing FFXIII with black screen interruptions ( Assuming it up-scales to 1080P ).
EDIT: Took my PS3 over to my neighbors house and played in on their samung in 1080P through HDMI with the same cable for about 30 minutes and there were no problems.
EDIT2: Sony want the TV to be taken in for repair. I'm not convinced it's the TV.
EDIT3: I just played it for over 1 hour on my TV without a single black screen. Usually this was happening every 3-4 minutes. Is now confused.
We have a brand new Epson 8500UB Projector that we are using with a brand new PS3 Slim. We are using a 1.3 HDMI cable hooked direct to the projector. We cant seem to get it to project in 1080P as when we try it comes up "HDMI Not Supported" (projects 720P & 1080i). My son's friend has an older PS3 that he brought over and hooked up and he was able to get his to recognize and project in 1080P! The firmware is up to date with our slim. I only ask because I know that they changed the hardware hdmi chip on the slim model and one side effect may be a decrease in output drive level compared to earlier iterations.

massimj 03-16-10, 08:09 PM These are the things I know from recent expedience and questions of other PS3 owners, both old and slim.
1) The older PS3 had no troubles with HDMI. This is too mean that whatever cable they used, it worked.
2) Some of the PS3 owners who upgraded to newer slim models could not use the same HDMI cable they were using with the old PS3. They had to go to a minimum of gold connectors, and a maximum of gold and heavy ga cables when they were very long.
3) My new slim PS3 would not work with a HDMI cable that I took off of my Blue Ray DVD player. The video would pop in and out at random. As soon as I upgraded the cable to one with gold connectors, problem solved. The old cable was silver colored, and 1.5 feet. the new cable was from Monoprice and was 12 feet in wall flat type, 24 ga with gold connectors. I then bought some cheap 6' HDMI cables from Hong Kong off of Ebay, they also worked and had gold connectors. Every gold connector fitted HDMI worked fine on my PS3. Sony tech support was the first to tell me that I should change the cable to a Sony brand because it had gold connectors and was of a higher grade than most. I never got a Sony cable, but I have a load of 6' gold HDMI cables from all over the place and they all work.
I'm pretty new to the PS3, and gaming. I'm really into Bio Shock now, and love my PS3. Next will be Uncharted 2 :Among Thieves.
datbeme 03-16-10, 10:33 PM I have a Sony KDSR60XBR1 that outputs in 1080i, not p.
You got bad information from Sony because that is entirely incorrect. Blu-ray works on 1080i TVs. All of them.
The default video setting on the PS3 slim should automatically select the 1080i signal for your 60XBR1 as it does for my 50XBR1. If it's on "Auto," even if you choose 1080p, it should revert to 1080i after 30 seconds...kind of like a computer monitor sometimes does when it's "out of range."
The only think I can think of is perhaps this PS3 was previously connected to a 1080p set (your brother's??) and MANUALLY set to 1080p. If so, take it back over to his house, hook it up to his TV, and set it to back to "automatic" or 1080i.
Then call the fool you talked to at Sony and tell him he isn't qualified to answer the phone.
massimj 03-17-10, 08:09 AM Did you try a better cable? That is wha tthis thread is about. The PS3 Slim has a very touchy HDMI interface and requires a good quality gold plated HDMI cable to work properly. You can also go into your PS3 video settings and adjust it to whatever resolution you think you can use, but Auto works fine if the cable it good.
There are other reasons that you could have trouble with HDMI, but try the cable first.

the_one876 03-17-10, 11:59 PM ok peeps, this week has been a crappy week for my ps3 .....mind you its a 40gb ....so its one of the older ones...... now my issue is this....i baught a hdtv last weekend and a hdmi cable with it, now all went well until about Wednesday i come home and couldnt get any display in HDMI mode. i did the whole holding down and waiting for the second beep to reset the settings.....went in the settings.....and still nothing...... i also notice that the resolution for the hdmi mode has changed to 720x480p...it should be ****x720p
anybody else had this prob? .....
oh i got a new hdmi cable and still nothing
subydoodie 03-18-10, 08:06 PM i did a quick search and didn't really come up with any definitive solutions.
I was wondering how people were able to hook up their PS3 to a projector that only allowed for VGA?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! You guys were right - it was my cable. I tried a short HDMI cable and the Slim worked perfectly in 1080P. I ordered a better quality, certified 30 ft cable. Thanks again!
I just received my new Certified 24k gold plated 30 ft HDMI cable and plugged it into my PS3 and projector and now it lets me get 1080P when before I could only get 1080i/720P with a cheaper cable. However, the picture goes black for a few seconds then comes back on again and this keeps cycling like this. Is this a cable problem again? Bought the cable from ebay, listed as-
Ultra Premium 30 FT HDMI Gold Cable PS3 HDTV 1.3 1080P
Ward216 03-23-10, 06:42 AM ..However, the picture goes black for a few seconds then comes back on again and this keeps cycling like this. Is this a cable problem again?..
Based on your success with a shorter cable I would have to say yes. I can't speak for the mfg of your cable but I can attest to the quality of Monoprice and Blue Jeans Cable. Keep in mind however that 22AWG (wire guage) is very thick and very hard to bend. 24AWG is a little better, and 28AWG is no trouble at all. I use the latter for 1080p/30ft. I didn't see any 30ft 28AWG models at Monoprice but depending on your cable route bending may not be an issue. If tight bends are only a problem near the devices then you could use an 8 inch 28AWG port saver cable. Note: the heavier the wire guage the easier it is drive over long distances due to lower resistance.
You could also look around for active extension cables in the 30-35 foot range. Keep in mind they are powered by the player and the EQ is at the far end by the display. So, underpowered devices like Sony's BD carousel player need not apply. The same goes for add-on devices like a "HDMI Active Equalizer Extender Repeater" which is just the EQ module you add to your existing cable. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041907&p_id=2849&seq=1&format=2

A converter would work to some degree. Meaning that due to HDCP restrictions you're not going to get Blu Ray movies in high definition. Non protected content shouldn't be problem however.

Chief Ediri 03-27-10, 07:59 PM I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but do I need a optical audio cable if I use HDMI?
Which connection will provide me better audio quality? I just ordered a optical cable off Amazon and now I am questioning the purchase.
Ward216 03-29-10, 05:46 AM ...but do I need a optical audio cable if I use HDMI?...Which connection will provide me better audio quality?.
Hi Ediri, generally HDMI would provide better quality and more audio formats vs the older digital format via optical/coax cables. We could probably offer better assistance if we knew what equipment you were using.
In short, HDMI will carry video, multi channel audio, and a control signal (CEC) for powering on/off attached equipment.

I hope you guys can help me out. I just bought a Sony KDL-46EX700 HDTV and I've connected my PS3 up to it via an HDMI cable. However, when I let it "Auto" select the optimal display settings, it defaults to 480p. When I "Custom" select 1080p, the screen loses signal for 30 seconds and returns to the previous screen indicating 1080p is not a correct mode for my TV. It has no problem accepting 720p and 1080i as display settings, but it is rejecting 1080p. This TV is brand new and has full 1080p and is an LED-LCD TV, so I can't imagine my new Sony HDTV can't connect properly with my Sony PS3. Please advise if any of you have encountered this problem with this model TV or similar Sony TVs, or if it could be a problem with my PS3 or HDMI cable. I am praying there isn't a problem with my TV.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
lemming3k 04-15-10, 10:41 AM I'm having some issues with the HDMI cutting out - It's been fine for 2 years but in the last 2 months or so I've found it occassionally cuts out, even being fine for a number of weeks in between - it starts with a degrading picture quality before going to a black screen with occassional audio input. Usually it comes back after 5-10 minutes. I've changed the HDMI cable and am still having the same problem. I only have one HDMI slot so I can't try it in another and as it's pretty intermittent it would be difficult to test it on another TV (if I can even get my hands on one).
Any ideas if it's likely to be the TV or the PS3s HDMI port? I can see I'm probably going to have to replace one to fix this but I don't know which, both are 2 years old.
clasik10 06-09-10, 01:54 AM This is my set up:
Cable box and PS3 connected to onkyo tx-sr876 going to a samsung lcd-led and a dynex lcd. I'm using a monoprice hdmi splitter.
My problem is the PS3 will not play on both tv's simultaneously. What can I do in order to have the ps3 play on both? Also if I decided to not use a splitter and use a switcher is there a switcher which would allow me to play cable on one tv and the PS3 on the other, then switch to cable on both tv's or ps3 on both tv's without having to change around wires?
Ward216 06-16-10, 06:50 AM Clasik10,
1) What resolution are you outputting from the PS3?
2) Which TV is plugged into port 1 of the splitter (port 1 usually supports DDC/EDID info)?
3) What is the max input resolution supported by each TV?
-----------
The multi input/multi output switch you asked about is called a matrix switch.

Hi all.
I bought a new TV yesterday (42" Panasonic G25) to replace the aging Viewsonic LCD I've been using for the past 4 years and am now having trouble with the HDMI connectivity of the Panny.
System consists of Yamaha RX-V465, PS3 (hdmi), HD cablebox (hdmi) and xbox 360 (component). All go into the Yamaha and then to the TV via HDMI and component cables.
The PS3 menu loads fine, but often times the signal drops when I try to play a bluray disc. Sound is there, just no picture. I've bypassed the receiver and connected the PS3 directly to the TV and both cables (one from PS3 to receiver as well as one from receiver to TV) worked fine. Both display in 1080P with sound perfectly per checking the TV's info button.
Is it possible the receiver is degrading the quality of the signal just enough to cause this problem? Or have I isolated the problem to my receiver?
I find it strange that everything has worked perfect for years and changing only the TV brought this problem to life. What a pain!
Ward216 06-22-10, 06:39 AM Hi PC,
My gut response would be that this is related to blu ray media somehow. Given that the audio continues to work and only the video drops out I don't think it's necesarily an HDCP problem and video degradation (data drop outs or bandwidth restrictions) usually exhibit itself as snow. Here's what I would try:
1) Check the Panny site and see if there's new firmware.
2) Verify that all your PS3 BD settings are vanilla; as in don't use deep color, or the expanded full HDMI black range option, etc.
if #2 fails to sove it then try #3.
3) Move the HDMI cable from behind the TV to the side/front port. Often times connect issues are isolated to the multi input pc board on the rear of the TV. If you drop video on this new port, try and hot plug the cable while the outage in progress and see if that fixes it by forcing the PS3 to perform a handshake with the TV. If the side/front port change solves the problem then you may be able to use an inexpensive 2 port HDMI splitter on the output of your AV receiver and still use the rear port on the TV.

Thanks for the response!
I've recently discovered its not bluray specific as it dropped out trying to start a PS3 game earlier. And I do seeing snow for a few seconds after dropout but before the TV reverts to the generic black screen showing which input is currently chosen. I assume this is a built in functionality of the TV whenever its not getting a proper signal otherwise I believe it would show constant snow.
I went ahead and ordered 2 new cables today from monoprice (4' high speed, gold plated) to test with. From what I've read it sounds like the cables are able to deliver enough strength directly to the TV, but not enough when ran through a receiver first. I'll find out in a few days and report back.
MCAARLINGTON 06-24-10, 01:55 AM I've had a chance to test 2 different TVs, a Toshiba Regza LCD (42in) and a Samsung Plasma (50in) [pn50b550] with various brand HDMI cables and 2 different game systems. Testing the Xbox 360, both TVs work fine with any old 6 foot HDMI cable connecting them. The PS3 however works fine with any HDMI cable and the Toshiba, but the Samsung has issues.
I've tried the HDMI cable that comes with the Xbox 360 on the Samsung with the PS3 to have failing color saturation, causing poor picture quality in games and videos on the PS3. Then I tried an off brand HDMI cable I purchased from elsewhere that works fine with the Xbox 360, but has a high glitch rate with the PS3 and Samsung. The glitches that occur are intermittent flickers of signal loss at random intervals. I eventually bought a higher quality HDMI cable, gold plated, that seemed to fix the Samsung/PS3 HDMI problem, but it came back recently at less frequent, but random intervals.
If any HDMI cable works with the PS3 and Toshiba LCD TV, while fails on the Samsung Plasma, it could be a compatibility issue with the PS3 or faulty HDMI ports on the TV. Yet, the Xbox 360 handles HDMI well without any glitches or loss of quality. Odd?
I tried the 4 different HDMI ports on the Samsung with the same results, intermittent glitches and quality loss. Toshiba works fine using HDMI with both systems on any cable thrown at it.
Ward216 06-25-10, 06:34 AM Hi,
Given this quote and not knowing what cable length, resolution & HDMI output options were used; I would think it was the cable.
Do you plug/unplug consoles on a regular basis in order to move them from room to room? I do, and I can tell you a decent Monoprice cable lasts a lot longer than the generic junk I find locally. I'm on my 4th year now with the same cables. Given the price, I would order a few of the 28 guage cables. That would at least remove the question of cable problems.

arenn21 07-21-10, 12:52 AM hey everyone, I have a problem with my HDMI connection as well. I have done some reading, but I havent found a real answer. So I got my ps3 about a week ago and used normal av cables, and there was no issue. I purchased a 30ft 1.4 hdmi cable from ebay ($10), and ran it through the walls to the tv (phillips 1080i). Now I get the "snow" anytime there is a black background. Also the picture cuts out every few minutes to a fuzzy black and white, then green, then back to normal in a few seconds. This is becoming more and more annoying everytime I play. Should I try a monoprice cable? They have a 30ft, but its standard speed, I dont know if I need high speed or not. Has anyone fixed this issue by changing their cable? Thanks!
I tried using different HDMI ports on the TV, and holding the power button down on the ps3, and tried different display settings on the ps3.
TornadoTJ 07-21-10, 08:29 AM are you going straight from PS3 to TV or is there a receiver in the middle?
arenn21 07-21-10, 04:47 PM The HDMI cable goes straight from ps3 to TV.
arenn21 07-23-10, 05:04 PM So I borrowed a 6ft vizio hdmi cable and it works fine now. Has anyone tried the monoprice 30ft standard speed cable? Or do I need a high speed? I emailed monoprice and asked, but I didnt really get an answer. Can I use standard speed over that long distance? Please help.
Ward216 07-26-10, 06:32 AM ...I dont know if I need high speed or not...
High speed is for 3D and for 2K displays. You'll be fine with standard speed cabling.
GregLee 08-02-10, 10:38 AM I don't have an issue with PS3 Slim connected by hdmi cable to an AVR (supports 3d) then by hdmi cable to a 3dtv. The 3dtv replaced an ordinary 2d tv, and I just unplugged the hdmi cable from the old tv and plugged it into the new 3dtv. When I turned the PS3 on, within a few seconds the tv screen blanked, then the PS3 put up a message asking me to confirm that I had a 3d tv connected, then a message asking me to confirm that it was a 58" (which it was). And that was all there was to it. I downloaded a couple of 3d demos to try out --- they work great. I didn't expect it to be that easy.
My AVR is a Pioneer vsx-1020-k, and the 3dtv is a Samsung pn58c8000. I'm sorry that I don't remember where the hdmi cables came from -- quite possibly Monoprice -- or what type they are. They're short. The PS3 was running whatever firmware was current as of July 14 -- perhaps v. 3.20?
I have a PS3 Slim connected directly to a Panasonic TC-P54G25 with a Monoprice 28 AWG Premium High Speed HDMI cable. I see "white speckles" in dark backgrounds unless I disable "Deep Color Support."
Monoprice has suggested I try using their 24 AWG HDMI cables; they have authorized RMA for the 28 AWG cable. I have read many people using the 28 AWG cables with PS3 and working fine.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

If this only happens at the PS3's XMB screen, I would just disable deep color mode. But, if it happens during DVD playback then I would get another cable.
jmorvay 08-20-10, 12:29 PM I have just purchased a new 120g ps3 and a new Samsung pn58c8000 plasma 3D tv. I am getting a broken mirror image on the top portion of the screen that runs horizontally accross the screen while playing games. It comes and goes randomly and when it does it only last 5-10 seconds. I disabled the 1080p res. on the ps3 and turned on the 720p and I have not seen the line. So is it the ps3, the tv, or maybe the monster brand 1.4 6ft. gold plated cable? Any info is much appreciated!

I bolded what your problem is, in my opinion, arenn21.
If your going to run cables through walls, where electrical wires and other possible issues are, you have to pay the money and get a quality cable with plenty of shielding.
A long run like yours just makes it even more of a problem for you right now.
I have my PS3 running through my receiver using hdmi then on to my TV. However the HDMI on my TV has stopped working. has anybody used one of these two products for converting HDMI to component? I prefer keeping all my devices running through HDMI to the receiver.

Guynbmi 09-23-10, 03:28 PM Here is my current set-up:
PS3 --> HDMI --> Sony KDL46EX700
Dish VIP 722 --> HDMI --> Sony KDL46EX700
Sony KDL46EX700 -> TOSLINK out --> Yamaha A/V Receiver (no HDMI inputs)
It is my understanding this Sony TV will pass DD5.1 from HDMI input to TOSLINK output. It does exactly that for the Dish receiver audio. The PS3 audio however is downgraded to 2 channel stereo. Need guidance in PS3 Sound and Video BD Audio settings to make this happen if this is possible. I do realize the TV will not pass DTS but I can live with that.
I know I can go ...
PS3 --> HDMI --> Sony KDL46EX700
PS3 --> TOSLINK --> Yamaha A/V Receiver
... but prefer not to.
Thanks in advance.
I just bought a Sony KDL nx800. I'm having sound problems with ps3 games. Most often during cutscenes, but sometimes during gameplay, the audio stutters, lags, or drops out completely. This only happens with certain games like Uncharted2, GOW III, Killzone2 and now Transformers. Battlefield doesn't have any problems.
I've got it connected as such with monoprice HDMI cables and set up per batpigs page.
PS3 Slim>>HDMI>>DENON 1610>>KDL nx800
Its driving me nuts. Any thoughts? Thanks.
saintsaints 10-04-10, 04:39 AM I have an older crt hdtv that has 480 and 1080i. Will this hdmi detective work in getting the ps3 to think I have 720p,
http://www.gefen.com/pdf/EXT-HDMI-EDIDP.pdf
darklordjames 10-04-10, 05:05 AM That box doesn't look like it's scaling anything, it's just fixing EDID. So, you could use it to trick your PS3 in to spitting out 720p, but then your TV would just freak out over the incoming signal.
What you probably want is some sort of scaler that accepts 720p HDMI input, and will scale that out for (DVI?) 1080i output.
saintsaints 10-04-10, 05:24 AM my hdtv crt would take the 720p and upscale it to 1080i I thought since I played 720p pc games and they look sharp
darklordjames 10-04-10, 05:25 AM Then why not just feed your CRT 720p over HDMI out of the PS3 in the first place? Why go through any sort of adapter at all?
Either you aren't giving us enough information, you are trying to make things more complicated than they need to be, or you are failing to understand the resolution capabilities of your display.
So, what are you trying to do? What output and input are you using? And what is the make/model of your display?
saintsaints 10-04-10, 05:38 AM Older crt tube hdtvs only have 480 and 1080i so when the ps3 outputs 720p and 720p is undetected in the crt tube tv, the ps3 down converts to 480p. Here is the sony thread documenting the frustration
http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/We-Want-1080-Support-for-PS3-games-past-and-future-ReBorn/td-p/29242625
darklordjames 10-04-10, 05:49 AM I understand that. What I'm saying is that I don't think you quite grasp it. So, answer my other questions so that we can move beyond that misunderstanding and do what you want to get done.
saintsaints 10-04-10, 05:52 AM what I want to do is play all games on my Toshiba 34HD82 crt tv at 1080i without letting the ps3 downscale 720p games to 480p. Output and inputs I'm using is hdmi
saintsaints 10-04-10, 06:01 AM maybe the ps3 will think of the hdmi detective as a 720p display so it won't downconvert, then outputs 720p to the tv where the crt can upscale it to 1080i. Play all games at 1080i is what all of us using crts wanted since the ps3 came out.
darklordjames 10-04-10, 06:48 AM If the display accepted 720p in over HDMI, then it would just work already. Since it doesn't it also isn't going to scale that image to 1080i, as it won't know what to do with the incoming signal. Chances are that the only 720p it knows what to do with is 720p from it's internal antenna tuner, not from external sources.
So, what you need is a scaler that accepts 720p HDMI in, and spits out 1080i HDMI out. A lot of receivers should be able to take care of this for you these days, or you can pick up a separate scaler. The problem that you are pretty rapidly faced with though is that cheap scalers kind of look like crap and introduce some pretty serious lag, and good scalers/receivers are probably in the "just replace the TV with a 42" plasma/32" LCD" price range.
Your best bet really is to just play your games at 1080i when the PS3 will let you, and play the other titles at 480p until it's time to buy a new display. Everything else is likely to just degrade your experience, make life a hassle, or make no sense from a financial standpoint given the alternative of buying a new display.
joetoronto 10-04-10, 06:59 AM darklordjames is absolutely right, saintsaints.
Whatever you do, don't spend a penny on that old TV, it's just not worth it.
Save your money and buy a new one, they're cheaper than ever now. ;)
saintsaints 10-04-10, 07:36 AM I set pc games at 720p hdmi and let the crt upscale to 1080i and look fine. Also 720p wmv files and anything from the htpc I have that is 720p upscaled to 1080i looks fine.

saintsaints 10-04-10, 08:56 AM old tv, I like crt with superior colors, black levels and zero refresh rate over plasmas especially for gaming.
Again, I think someone read wrong, I'm glad the box cant upscale, the hdmi detective inputs and outputs without heavy upscaling processing so maybe no lag and for eighty dollars to play all ps3 games in 1080i on a crt, anyone want to try it

I used to say the same thing and then I realized that not all plasmas are created equally.
To each his own.
saintsaints 10-05-10, 12:33 AM Can someone read the pdf and tell me what might happen if I used the gefen hdmi detective between the ps3 and a 480 / 1080i crt. Tired of playing 720p games at 480p because of the ps3 downscaling problem

BertBert 10-22-10, 12:20 AM I just realized I forgot to mention that you SHOULD disable 10 bit color mode (Deep Color) via the XMB menu by disabling the
SETTINGS / DISPLAY SETTINGS / RGB Full Range (HDMI)
option. This should solve the snow issue that exists only during the XMB and not during BD movies.
I just got a PS3 120g slim since my older model got the bad case of YLOD. I was given this one as a replacement. As soon as i plugged it i noticed the flicker right away. I thought the cable would've been the issue since it's an older cable and not a new cat 2 cable. But before I made a trip to the store to buy yet another cable I turned off the deep color setting and viola. I have a sammy series 5 model 530 which is an 8 bit TV, so it only made sense to turn the 10 bit setting off.
it works and I can enjoy my PS3 after an 8 weeks hiatus due to the repair shop...
thank you Ward.

HiHoStevo 10-22-10, 12:57 AM Has anyone else had a problem with NetFlix since the transition from the disc to a downloaded file?
My disc worked just fine... my Xbox can access NetFlix just fine....
My PS-3 downloads the file just fine (I have deleted and re-downloaded 3 times), when I run the program I can contact the NetFlix servers to authenticate my account... but then the screen goes to the red NF banner and in the black space underneath reports "contacting netflix"... then after a bit "retrieving titles" for another 30 seconds then the words disappear on cycle back through "contacting netflix" ... "retrieving titles" ... it does this 3 times and then I get an error message on the screen saying that they cannot contact NetFlix and to "Try Again" with 200,300,201 in the lower right corner of the error message window.
Has anyone else had this situation?
I have re-booted my entire system and no other device has any issues contacting the internet... as the PS-3 does not have any problem accessing the internet (I can reach the store, download files, play online games)....
Just cannot use the downloaded file to access my NetFlix movies????

Yeah, several people appear to have the exact same problem as you. No answer as of yet though. I would imagine a firmware update pretty soon for either the OS or the NetFilx program. My 60G launch PS3 was unaffected. Which model do you have?

rmhamilton 11-08-10, 08:21 PM I just got a Denon AVR391 receiver and hooked it up to my hdtv & cable box, and trying to add my 80GB PS3. When I hook up my PS3 via HDMI the picture is too blurry/scrambled/distorted to even look at. Prior to this the PS3 was connected directly to the tv and worked fine for the past year.
When I run the auto detect function on the PS3 a menu does appear in 480p and asks if I would like to switch to HDMI, but as soon as I do the problem reappears.
A friend told me he has similar issues and it is best to connect the ps3 directly to my tv anyways, but the point of buying the receiver was to put all audio/video components into a nearby closet all connected by an HDMI cable I ran under my house leading to the TV. A custom built wall around the tv will make it extremely difficult to run another HDMI cable to the closet. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?

Hi rmhamilton, how long is the HDMI cable from receiver to tv?
vdubpower 11-09-10, 03:19 AM ok cool, so my blueray/dvd movie playing and gaming can all go through that only?
i wasnt sure if u had to use one for gmaing and one for movies

I have a 20ft cable running from the tv, under house, and up through a closet to the receiver. My Comcast cable box is running through the receiver to the tv and I have no problems there.

If you haven't yet, try connecting PS3 to one of the other three HDMI ports.

I tried all other available ports (including the port that the cable box works perfectly through) to no avail; additionally, I connected the 20ft HDMI directly to the PS3 and it works fine. I've read reviews on the receiver and havent seen anything negative concerning PS3 connection, so I'm really stumped.
BTW, thanks for your help JChin!

Hmm, here are a few more suggestion to try.
- replace with a different HDMI cable from PS3 to receiver
- turn off "Deep Color/Colour Output (HDMI) " under Display Settings
- or turn off "BD 1080p 24Hz Output (HDMI)" under Video Settings

Any luck so far? My money is on the short patch cable to connect the PS3 to the Denon. http://usa.denon.com/us/Product/Pages/Product-Detail.aspx?Catid=3d9614d1-8000-4106-ab91-8192242cab83&SubId=40b5820d-83c2-4e93-9909-60aae60e0bdd&ProductId=d2628900-a5f8-49f2-ab1b-28d0d1cf71f9

Fixtandantilux 11-30-10, 08:03 AM Hi all.
I've recently bought a PS3 (slim) and I'm experimenting problems connecting it via HDMI with my A/V receiver:
Screen flickering (and even black screen) (but sound seems to be ok), when PS3 is attached to the A/V receiver (ONKYO TX-SR508) via HDMI, but working OK if it is conected directly (same cable) to my Bravia EX500. I tried with 2 different HDMI 1.3a cables (1.8 and 5m) and everything is exactly the same. Both cables works perfectly with my WDlxTV.
By now, the PS3 is working with firmware 3.40 and, as I could find, no one of the firmware updates by SONY fix any bug related with the HDMI.
Does anybody have any idea? Should I update my PS3 to fw 3.50 (loosing the jailbreak option by the moment)? Have you find any option (Deep colour, HDMI control...) which is interacting the HDMI handshake and causing the problem?.
Thanks you all in advance.
Fixtandantilux 12-01-10, 01:17 PM Solved.
It seems to be related with the Deep colour settings in the PS3.
Finally, it is working!!!.
I started from scratch, using a HDMI 1.4 cable;
BD/DVD HDMI port (nš1) instead of VCR/DVR (nš2); only the PS3 attached to the A/V receiver; everything disconected from the power source for a while and pressing the PS3' start button for 5sec till the second beep sounded (this reset the HDMI settings on the PS3 side).
Starting from the most conservative settings (NO HDMI control, no
superwhite... NO everything...), the flickering issue comes back only when
the Deep colour settings on the PS3 is turned on.
Now I can breathe again!. Fortunately there is no need to deal with
ONKYO/SONY customer support.
I hope it will be helpfull. Thanks and good luck.
investor27 12-02-10, 12:11 AM I came here looking for answers with the exact problem I'm having on my new 160gb PS3 Slim connected via HDMI to my Onkyo S3300. I will try your solution to see if the handshake problem is resolved. Can you tell me all of your settings?
I have RGB set at Limited, HDMI set at ycbcr, superwhite on, deep color on, bitstream audio. Thanks.

Fixtandantilux 12-02-10, 05:21 AM Good Luck investor27.
Try setting the deep color OFF.
HDMI (RGB or Y/Cb/Cr) is Auto.
Superwhite is ON
1080p/24Hz is ON
50Hz video output is 50Hz (remember, this is Europe)
HDMI control is ON
RGB full range is ON
I hope it works for you.
I realize my WD TV Live has the same issue when I set 12 bits HDMI instead 8bits. I supose this could be the same as the "deep color" option in the PS3, so both issues seem to be consistent.
investor27 12-02-10, 02:02 PM That seems to work. Thanks, Buddy. Here are my settings:
Deep Color OFF
Cross Color Reduction Filter OFF
HDMI (RGB or Y/Cb/Cr) is Auto.
Superwhite is ON
1080p/24Hz is Auto
BD/DVD Upscaler Normal
PS Upscaler Normal
PS Smoothing OFF
BD/DVD Dynamic Range Control ON
BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) Bitstream
HDMI control is OFF
RGB full range is Limited
I'm not sure if all of these are correct, so please feel free to give any recommendations that I should change to instead you guys. Thanks.
Fixtandantilux 12-02-10, 02:36 PM If it works, it is correct ;P
Anyway, you could maybe "improve" it if you set ON "PS smoothing" and HDMI control, as well as RGB full range. The first one should enhance only your PS graphics, while the RGB settings will be applied to all the system. HDMI control is really useful if you have a compatible system:
I press the PS button in my Sixaxis-> PS3 power on->PS3 sends the power on command to my TV-> My TV sends the power on command to the ONKYO A/V-> My TV detects there is a A/V active, so it mutes the small TV speakers and the ONKYO SR-508 takes control! Just one click and all the system up and ready! :D
Besides that: If I shut down the TV, the ONKYO shuts down...(I don't remember if the PS3 does..., but, if I shut down the PS3, the rest of the system remains active.)
Bye and enjoy.
skyylinegtr 04-13-11, 11:04 PM Finally I found someone with a similar-sounding problem! I have spent hours searching the forum for Onkyo HDMI/video issues, and none of the posts were closely related to my issue...until now.
I returned my second TX-NR3008 for an exchange, again, which will hopefully arrive in a day or two. The following is the story of the aforementioned second unit that is now on its way back.
If I was using my PS3 (using the BD/DVD HDMI input on the back of the Onkyo) to watch a movie, regardless of the format, when trying to quit to the PS3 home screen you select quit and the screen goes black. The problem is that the screen stays black, rather than losing the picture momentarily while the PS3 loads the home screen. Once this happens you cannot regain a signal until you power cycle the Onkyo receiver. I tried every combination possible between cycling the display only, receiver, PS3, and only by power cycling the Onkyo NR3008 could you get the receiver to grab the HDMI signal again.
This also happens if you were to load Netflix on the PS3. Launch Netflix, screen goes black while it begins to load Netflix, but instead of then displaying the Netflix loading screen it once again forgets how to find a signal over HDMI. Once again, turn receiver off and back on, and there is the PS3 Netflix menu with recommendations, instant queue, and so on. I should also add that the OSD setup menu for the Onkyo does not display 95% of the time when watching an input, whether it be Xbox360, PS3, BDP, or a cable/sat box. I say 95% because for some inane reason the OSD setup menu would come up on screen if you had just performed an Onkyo factory reset, but subsequently would not show itself after properly displaying once or twice. No I did not make ANY changes whatsoever to the receiver after the factory resets, which would have explained why it worked after a fresh reset but not thereafter. It just inexplicably stopped displaying on its own accord.
In addition, if you attempted to switch your HDMI input source, from say the black screen after losing your signal to your PS3, to a BDP, Xbox, cable/sat box, 80% of the time it would also give you nothing but a black screen. The other 20% of the time it would display video if you let it sit on the newly selected HDMI source for anywhere from half a minute, to four minutes. I should take a moment to mention that recalling from my memory, almost all of the instances when the receiver would lose video, it would however manage to regain an audio signal over the HDMI connection while still giving no video. I do not believe this is an issue with my attached devices, as they worked with my first Onkyo TX-NR3008 for four solid weeks (which I will post about in a different Onkyo thread, as it does not pertain specifically to the PS3 with the Onkyo). Nevertheless I have tried using different HDMI cables, including purchasing three new ones to reduce the chance of purchasing one new cable to test, and having a DOA cable skew my investigation. I tested the receiver with one device, all devices, some devices, PS3 in another HDMI input, more factory resets than I can count to isolate the variables as I made changes, and different cables. The devices all work when video is direct to the display, and audio to the receiver via optical, so I knew it was the receiver, but I was hoping it was some silly thing I could fix. The firmware was also current.
I suppose I was just delaying the inevitable second return. Feeling very defeated after two Onkyo 3008's, with more hours than I care to count spent configuring both to my setup, only to have both destroy my time spent configuring them for my room. The second unit may have been defective on arrival, but my first 3008 worked swimmingly for four weeks, and that was more than enough for me to fall in love with the Onkyo's otherwise excellent qualities. As such I am giving it one final go, and hoping the third new 3008 will be the charm. Just know that if you are reading this, and you are having similar/the same issues with your Onkyo 3008/5008's HDMI video, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.:(
mediaseth 07-20-11, 12:04 PM It would be helpful to have a quick list made of popular hdmi switch boxes that do and don't work with the ps3. I just tried the radio shack house brand, Auvio, and it passes NOTHING from the ps3, letterboxes my hd cable channels un-necessarily, and slightly worsens my Apple TV's picture.
But getting back to the PS3, I've heard that the RocketFish brand doesn't work with it, either. :(
I'm looking for an HDMI switcher that works with at least mostly everything, because I have three devices and only two HDMI ports.

Mazgaon 10-23-11, 04:20 AM I have a PS3 Slim that is setup with HDMI->DVI connection to a Pioneer 5070 plasma display. It has worked great for BDs at 1080i/p and DVDs as well. I recently bought a PS3 Game that plays at 720p (ModNation Racers). HOWEVER, the display for this game does not work properly - the screen turns GREEN as the game starts and most of the visuals of the game retain a green color (up to 80% of the images on the screen). Tried playing the game for some time, but the green color remains.
Have tried changing the PS3 Video Settings, but not been able to fix the problem so far. Would really appreciate some help in resolving this issue - my 7 year old son is giving me a tough time since his game is not working ! :)
Thanks in advance.
