So... recently I've noticed that whenever my TV stays off for an extended period of time, then is turned back on, horizontal, transparent, white lines appear near the top of the screen. They slowly scroll to the top of the screen and disappear once they reach the top, but it's still a minor annoyance. Does anyone know what this could be caused by, and how it could be fixed?

you can see my post a little further down..
same problem

you vertical deflection has something wrong with it..
could be a broken solder or trace on the board or cap going bad or power supply or Whatever..

if you can bang on the tv and it fixes it, could be a connection issue

i'm still trying to figure out what to do about it

Hmm... weird... I'm getting similar lines on my computer monitor... and a fan at my house has been having some kind of electrical problems (I think it shorted out...).
Maybe I'll have to get it repaired somewhere...

You didn't say what kind of set this was. Bad Verticle output IC or an electrolytic capacitor in the verticle circuit.

OK... I'm going to just bump this now since it's really likely that I'll be buying a new tv this week. >_> To rephrase... I'm not sure if the lines are white... they actually seem to be... almost... translucent... they don't really seem to have a specific color, but they are very much visible... maybe they are white though... I don't know. They go from the top of the screen to about 1/4 down it, and they seem to be evenly spaced. My TV is a Toshiba 27AF45, and my monitor is some type of Gateway CRT. Actually, on my monitor, they seem to have a bit of a light blue tint... Anyway, the lines appeared at around the same time on the monitor and the TV, which led me to come to the conclusion that it has something to do with the circuitry in my house... it also happened shortly after someone turned the power to the house on and off repeatedly (while the monitor and tv were still on). What exactly could've caused this to happen though?

Hi...Has anyone been able to figure this out and what it would take to fix? I'm having the same problem on a Toshiba 27AF53, except that now, after scrolling to the top, a few lines remain permanently - an indication that the problem is getting progressively worse. Otherwise, the picture quality is excellent, so I would hate to give up on it...

Any ideas...?
