Graphics still look bad...beautiful TV though!
Lebronze 05-05-08, 10:15 PM Hmm, haven't noticed any porsches yet. What is the GTA IV name for the car?
the comet
jmabra: Between the Sony and Panasonic, which of the two TV has the better picture quality?
Personally, I don't think you could go wrong with either TV. Having said that, I'd give the nudge to the Sony by a small margin.
Keep in mind, the Sony is a 46" and the Panasonic is a 32" so I think the bigger screen in HD looks a little better. For SDTV, no question, the Panasonic but that might have to do with the smaller screen.

Somehow people got this idea in their head that a game with an ENTIRE city that is completely alive and open with people all acting out their lives with a great phyics engine would look like Gears of War or Gran Turismo 5. Show me ANY other game out right now that is this big, this free, and with this much going on at once that looks better than GTA4? Maybe Oblivion? But even that doesn't have near as much happening at once and the physics engine doesn't even compare not to mention every other character looks the same and has the same voice actor, AND there are loading screens out the wazoo. In GTA4 everything is seemless. Not even loading screens for going to bowling alleys, clubs, etc..
I admit I was a little surprised at the "bluriness" at first (probably because the promo "screenshots" didn't have that "look" to them), until I really started playing it. Unitl I started playing some of the missions and realizing what was going on around me and how big the world was. The 25-30fps doesn't bother me either. I think it gives a very film-like feel to it.
Sorry, don't want to de-rail this thread, I'm just saying...

Even better yet. Get yourself two false outlet boxes and two wall plates designed for your particular cables. Find an opening in your TV wall mount and then use your false box to trace out the pattern to cut out.(Find the middle of the stud cavity.) In the same cavity, drop down behind your components. Use the false box again and trace your pattern there. Cut out both patterns.
Next, install the false outlet boxes. Hook your cables up to the top wall plate and drop the other end down to your other cut-out. Install the top wall plate. Reach into the bottom hole and grab the cables. Pull them thru and hook them up to the other wall plate. Install that wall plate.
Walla!!! No wires or cable tracks.
You can also just get a single quick-port jack(s) and make a hole to your liking so you can use one set of cables to your TV.
IhateBestBuy 05-06-08, 08:54 PM LJ25...you know nothing about good graphics. It would be safe to say your opinion is worthless.
Chairman7w 05-06-08, 09:42 PM I don't think this is the place for personal attacks, but I agree with you IhateBestBuy.

These are both great ideas and will probably hide the wires in the wall for the mean time. This room is a work in progress. I will eventually seal up a doorway and move everything down 6' to center the room properly. The house was originally designed for the living room to accommodate a dining room but we turned that little area into a bar. I want to flip that in the room which means I get to demo and properly wire everything into the wall.
Here's the door that I am going to seal and the antique bar at the far end and I'm taking out that weird white shelf that is acting as a barrier:

LJ25...you know nothing about good graphics. It would be safe to say your opinion is worthless.
Just because I don't think GTA has good graphics does not mean my opinion is worthless. Its like saying just because you don't like pizza that your opinion is worthless. So I have every right to not like the graphics and that's MY opinion and not yours. BTW Oblivion has better graphics than GTA and it's as big if not bigger. Yes the game is not a big city, but still Oblivion is huge.

As I stated earlier, with about 1/20th of the stuff going on. No euphoria engine, every other character is the same model with the same voice, etc. etc.

And I do agree with you, but still IMO Oblivion does look better. And really no offense to those who think that GTA has good graphics.
lcjrodriguez 05-07-08, 11:04 PM Not to open a new bag of worms but... forums are intended for people to be able to voice their opinion. IMHO, I don't feel that it is polite to degrade someones comment, simply because you don't see eye to eye on a given subject.
No need to respond to this post, Just my opinion.
Kingcarcas 05-08-08, 10:47 AM Game looks amazing. I never would have believed it if you told me how awesome this game would look on my 50'' Panny back when i was playing GTA:SA on my Ps2 with a 27'' CRT :D I also agree that it should have gotten a 10 if the reviewer felt it deserved a 10. What's the point of the scale? Every game gets either a 7 or an 8, if you feel a game deserves a 2 or a 3 then do it! If you feel it's pure gaming bliss than give it a 10, who cares about people complaining because they don't like the type of game. Eventually we'll have 10s left and right and nobody will care :D The reason you look at reviews anyway is to know if a game is worth buying no? Well a 10 means HELL YES!
bdwright77 05-08-08, 11:09 AM Kingcarcas...while I dont necessarily disagree with your statement...please keep the GTA discussions in the appropriate threads.
Thanks!

BertBert 05-08-08, 11:07 PM Thanks guys for the warm compliments. I just added a lamp to the back of my TV for bias lighting and fixed the camera's settings to look as accurately to my eyes in real life as possible. Let me know how they come out. Thanks!
Just random screens I took to work out the best possible settings for the camera.

Thanks Chairman,
That is my original Atari 2600 - I paid about $190.00 in 1980 (I think at the Whiz in NYC), worked all summer at my Dad's bike shop to earn the money. And NO EXTENDED WARRANTY!!! Played it on a BW 13" Philips TV. I did not get to play it on a color TV until like 1982, we heard from the well-to-do kids back then "man, playing Atari on a color TV makes the games three dimensional"...
Freaking cartridges were averaging about $35.00 in the early 80's... so it's hard to complain about 60.00 PS3 games!

Hi,
thanks for your comment! The light is actually just a random fluorescent lamp light I found lying around the house. I never really took notice of any heat though.

Back by popular demand (not really) here are some pics of my man cave in action with "Uncharted," "Heavenly Sword" and last night's "SNL" on split-screen
You should commit a murder at your place of residence and then see if "The First 48" crew could solve the case.
Oh and don't let that empty faygo bottle go to waste. You can get like 10 cents for that in Michigan.

Sorry, I was referencing this post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13828056#post13828056). But since I removed the picture link from the quotation tags (I always do that), and since there was no actual text in the post, the quote tags linking to that picture disappeared from my post.

I think he is just trying to get attention with the mess..

Bryan, if that's true then he's pretty pathetic.
What a poor excuse of a life... :(

LOL...:D.
This guys like a "cat lady" (you know...one of those ladies that has like 30 cats in her one bedroom apartment) of electronics and junk...
andross77 05-12-08, 03:00 PM i just read the last page and why are you guys insulting a stranger for having a messing apartment?
You don't know this guy. You will never meet him. You don't have to hang out in the mess. If he wants to live like that, how does it affect you? Just ignore it.
I used to live like that my freshman year in college. Then I cleaned things up soph-senior year. No biggie....
Just b/c someone is messy doesn't make them a "lower life form" as many of you are putting it.
PikachuManZzZ 05-12-08, 03:03 PM ^^^ indeed.
I know AVS is a bit elitist, but come on guys. No need to insult the guy for how he lives.

No kids here. I use 'dad1153' because its my father's birthday and 'dad' is an easy to remember nickname. As you can tell I have trouble remembering things, like where I left that darn mop!

I assume you spend a lot of time in that "space" huh? I guess that's what my place would look like as well, if I amassed 6,400+ posts in a little over two years time - no time to clean must post:)
Can someone please post some "real images" so we can all get back on track here - I'd post a few myself if I wasn't at the office.

BertBert 05-12-08, 09:56 PM Hi,
thanks for your comment! The light is actually just a random fluorescent lamp light I found lying around the house. I never really took notice of any heat though.
I will try and look for some of then LED lights. They shouldn't let out any heat compared to a regular bulb. I should have some pics up soon of my set up and games/movies soon. one question though how do you stich your pics like that. Any tricks???

so don't give people a hard time for commenting on his place as he is clearly being a good sport about all this.

but it's not just people giving him a hard time. some people were calling him a lower life form. that's just stupid.
i agree with the post that it matters more if he has a family and there are health issues. but if it's just him, people should leave him be. "giving someone a hard time" is one thing and i have no problem with that. calling someone less than human, is another thing: uncalled for and i do have a problem with it.
Rieper called him a "poor excuse for a life." that's just overboard imo.
RAVEN56706 05-13-08, 12:02 PM wow guys...ok he is messy... who cares... was the requirement to be on the AVS board to be as clean as martha stewart...
ok back to the ps3 pics.... does anyone have a different color ps3?
jeffyjaixx 05-13-08, 12:52 PM I really hate you jeffy.......j/k :D
why do all games and movie shots look so freaking incredible on your setup. My ps3 GTA4 doesn't look that sharp and beautifully like yours.....it is either you're doing something or that Samsung Plasma is the best in the world.
lol thanks.
I think it's my point and shoot camera. It used to be one of the best p&s camera's for places with low lighting. It's the Fujifilm FinePix F30.

Nice, looking forward to the new look. IMO, any ambient light behind the TV will improve the way you watch your TV because it will not strain your eyes as much as watching in the dark. Stick my pics? You mean post them up? I usually upload them to my photobucket account and then put tags on them.
dad1153 05-13-08, 03:00 PM wow guys...ok he is messy... who cares... was the requirement to be on the AVS board to be as clean as martha stewart...
Thanks, that was my thinking. I wanted to share the setting I use to watch/play my PS3 (and XBox 360 on another thread) and be honest about it rather than try to dress it up for the camera. These 'show pics of your setup' threads are my favorites at AVS and just wanted to participate. Read the rules, didn't see any requirements for cleanliness so I snapped away. Funny thing is nobody has mentioned whether they liked my PS3 pics or not! :(
MaxDam77 05-13-08, 03:22 PM I don't live at your place so I don't care either. But, by checking your place, you have the space for a nice home theater to go with you set up, unless it is there, I haven't seing it. What HDTV do you own? looks like an 40" Olevia.
I'll post my pics later.
bassmonkeee 05-13-08, 03:29 PM Funny thing is nobody has mentioned whether they liked my PS3 pics or not! :(

I'm not trying to cast aspersions at your house or lifestyle, but honestly when images like that are posted how can you expect a person to see anything other than the dominating filth - your "set-up" is grossly overshadowed by the utter chaos of the area.
To answer your question, and if I'm being completely truthful here, I think your set-up is OK, very mediocre at best. Again I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm simply expressing my point of view on a subject that you asked to be commented on.
RAVEN56706 05-13-08, 03:48 PM yes you can have a nice home theater if you clean it up... sure... but who cares.... Sometimes we comment on your setup and some people have beautiful settings and dont even have a comment.

to be honest, I don't like the COMPLETE set-up. Your equipment appears to be nice, but where do you sit? An important part of the set-up includes the surrounding environment including seating...from the pics it appears that you sit on a mound of electronics.
I have doubts that these pics are even real.
bdwright77 05-13-08, 06:18 PM man alive...I do wish we could get past this guy's pics. I have posted my modest setup, received no comments...and eagerly await the next inventive design to spark my imagination.
I do not want to be forced to revisit pictures of Tyrone Bigum's apartment.
But dad1153...if it makes you feel any better...I like the PIP with Uncharted and what I believe is OTA broadcast....how is that connected?
Chairman7w 05-13-08, 06:30 PM Thanks, that was my thinking. Probably because it's not a "setup". It's a filth ridden, disgusting mess that I think you posted just to get attention (which you got).
Sorry, but this is so far beyond, "Leave the guy alone, so his place is a little messy" that it's not even funny.
Do you seriously sit in there and watch TV or play?
And don't complain about our reactions - you knew darn well that people would have something to say about it. If you weren't prepared or willing to accept it, you should not have shown the photos. Really, it's not normal, it's not cute, it's not a "lifestyle choice", it's disgusting.
/end rant
mboojigga 05-13-08, 06:38 PM Are serious? He posted these in the PS3 thread also?
dad1153 05-13-08, 07:48 PM Yep, multi-system owner here! :p
What HDTV do you own? looks like an 40" Olevia.
Olevia 747i (47" 1080p LCD with Realta HQV processor) with 50W built-in speakers. Paper-thin walls in my apartment building prevent me from getting a surround sound system so I use a set of Dolby Pro-Logic cordless headphones for late night viewing.
But dad1153...if it makes you feel any better...I like the PIP with Uncharted and what I believe is OTA broadcast....how is that connected?
"SNL" came from an OTA antenna and "Uncharted" with an HDMI from the PS3. The Olevia 747i is one of the few HDTV's on the market that can do PIP with 1080p sources simultaneously, like an HD-DVD and Blu-ray (from PS3) with each screen at 1080p/24:
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u238/dad1153/DSC00057-2.jpg
bdwright77 05-13-08, 09:01 PM That is pretty cool...all I have is the PC input on my 4661. No other input will do PIP while an HDMI source is playing.

My apartment set up. image is compressed, and the picture was taken at an angle enough to drive me nuts...I'm still learning my new camera, and I think one of my legs is shorter than the other...or maybe I just need more practice taking pictures.
Simple set up, performs well, and played nice nice with my budget at the time. Now that I am making more it's time to look for a house, and build a new living room entertainment system. Viper I am supremely jealous of your photography skills. I have a Canon Rebel Xt...teach me the ways of the jed...err...of the photographer.

It would take longer than one day to clean that
Seriously, that guy's place is disgusting. I have no problem telling him that he lives like a pig and either needs to seek some type of professional help or get off his lazy ass. If he's willing to post pics of his place he can expect to get reactions (which may be what he wants) and even if he's only doing it for attention that still doesn't explain his problems, which I'm willing to bet are extensive. I don't know how other people seem to think that "it's a little messy". Tip-toeing around so as not to offend or hurt anyone's feelings is noble but in the end pointless.
Lil' Louie 05-16-08, 01:31 PM Nice setup corejonp1.

You're entitled to your opinion. Still, I don't understand what benefit you get from typing it out and insulting him. Best to let bygones be bygones sometimes.
Here, let me get some heat off him. Here's my setup pics (the PS3 is sitting right next to where the 360 is in the pic). Feel free to tell me how un-optimal this is for HT use, because it is/was primarily a computer setup. ;)

Well said; and, I agree.
I don't get any benefit from typing anything out except for voicing my opinion I guess. Bygones are bygones, and it doesn't actually make a difference to me how someone lives, I guess I was just a little surprised someone could feel comfortable enough living like that that they would actually post pictures. And to be fair I don't think I'm the only one who had this type of reaction. Consider the subject closed on my part.
mouettus 05-16-08, 09:32 PM http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/3343/thesetupfw5.jpg
This is a swEEt setup! As I like 'em. Nothing too pushed on the "audio nut" side. Just some good equipment on a stand. I would've bought the same a/v stand but my center channel wouldn't fit.
Plz list your equipment.
corejonp1 05-16-08, 10:13 PM Thanks for the compliment. I went for a setup that pushed my budget at the time while trying to maximize the overall capability of the system.
At the heart of my setup is a Yamaha HTR-5960 receiver which drives two NS-555 Mains, two NS-333 bookshelf speakers, and the one NS-444 Center speaker. The receiver was *just* before the main stream adoption of HDMI so to make up for that I have a simple 4 into 1 HDMI switch to make up for it. I have a battery back up system to regulate voltage and to compensate for power sags brought on by high demand frm the audio equipment, and a monster power line conditioner to clean up my power feed as I live in an apartment. Add to that a PS3 and an XBox Elite, and a 50" Sony A2020 SXRD tv, and thats my set up in a nut shell.
Bokchoy 05-16-08, 11:26 PM If I posted a picture of my new car, and there was a bloated dead goat in front of said new car, how many of the comments do you think would be about my new car?

An approximately correct exposure will be obtained on a sunny day using ISO 100 film, an aperture of f/16 and a shutter speed of 1/100th of a second. This is called the sunny 16 rule: at an aperture of f/16 on a sunny day, a suitable shutter speed will be one over the film speed (or closest equivalent).
you can start with this set up and increase or decrease the apeture depending on the light... if the room is to dark then you need to allow more light to pass through the lens to the media... in this case being the sensor....
i hope this helps

lcjrodriguez 05-20-08, 08:48 PM Sorry for my newb-ness, but what in the world does Crushed Blacks mean?
Thanks Bert, I'll play with the settings. Although, I don't think They will get all that much better.
As for crushed blacks, basically means you lose detail.

Bokchoy 05-20-08, 11:51 PM Sorry for my newb-ness, but what in the world does Crushed Blacks mean?
"Black crush" is when you can't properly distinguish between various levels of black, and it usually results from not enough brightness. Imagine a man wearing a tuxedo in a dimly-lit room. If your TV is properly calibrated, you may be able to see where the pockets, the wrinkles, the creases, etc... If your blacks are crushed, you'll see only see solid black.
In a nutshell, your goal is to have the minimum brightness, while still being able to make out detail on dark surfaces where you are supposed to.
Chairman7w 05-21-08, 12:00 AM Thanks Bokchoy!
lcjrodriguez 05-21-08, 12:43 AM Bokchoy FTW!

BFJ, is that your camera making the pics so blurry? Which PJ/screen setup do you have?
BFJ, is that your camera making the pics so blurry? Which PJ/screen setup do you have?
I believe the soft look comes from the compression setting of my camera. It was set to NORMAL when I took this shot. I usually take shots with the compression setting @ SUPERFINE. The camera I use is a Canon Powershot sx100IS & my display is a HITACHI 57F510 RPTV

Good stuff regardless!

Keep it up guys.

I can see where he's coming from. I'm interested in people's PS3 setups and their home environments. I can see 1 or 2 pics of the output of the PS3, but 5 or more? that's overkill....we get the idea that you have a great TV with 1 or 2 pics.
I'm all for another thread of "post pics of the output of your PS3". That would be an entertaining and fun thread.

Go back to page 54-54 this guy continually spams this threads with pile loads of pictures of movies on his TV. To boot, people have hammered him over and over about stopping it. Very view people want to see 20+ pictures of the movie Rambo. His pictures are crappy quality so it looks like crap as it is. I don’t mind pictures of movies accompanied with a person’s setup set much like I post. Hey moron, read the thread title. Post your PS3 pics, NOT SETUP PICS. I'm not spamming the thread, i'm simply contributing to it. Other people like seeing them, you are one of the few that talk crap for no reason. If you dont like it, go take your cry baby ass to another forum. I dont recall anyone "hammering" me about not posting, if that was the case, I would gladly stop. But when people like seeing pics, and some random jerk does not, I wont stop posting because of that one person, understand?
feel free to create the thread you are ever so dreaming about. just a reminder that this is a game forum, not a hometheater forum. There are other places for that.
yamahaSHO 05-29-08, 02:56 PM I would have to agree with tleavit. We really don't want to see a bunch of screen shots. I know I've posted in this thread about someone who just posted a bunch of screen shots. Screen shots of movies and games are boring. I'd much rather see the setup of what people of and how the integrate their PS3.
mrTAPOUT - You're right, it does say "Post your PS3 Pics!!".... So show us a picture of JUST your PS3 (nothing else) and be done.... Cool? It DOESN'T say "Post screen shots of what your PS3 is displaying on your TV".
feel free to create the thread you are ever so dreaming about. just a reminder that this is a game forum, not a hometheater forum. There are other places for that.
AVS Forum > Digital Video & Audio Devices > Home Theater Gaming > PlayStation Area > Post your PS3 Pics!!
what you have been posting are not pics of a PS3, they are close up shots of your display which are totally out of context without info/pics of your setup, and completely redundant when posted ad infinitum.
the name calling is nice too, keep that up.
ckenisell 05-29-08, 03:31 PM How about people post whatever they feel like and we keep the commentary down to nothing? If we don't like what's posted, don't look. How do you like them apples?
rjsanc30 05-29-08, 03:40 PM ^^^Come on now guys...I like viewing this thread now and again, it's really interesting to see what others are gaming on. Let's not get this locked by resorting to childish tactics.
That said I do agree: I'd much rather see a few images of a persons PS3/HT set-up than a dozen or so screen shots of games and movies...sometimes less is more I guess.
MaxDam77 05-29-08, 03:52 PM I like to see this kinds of threads. To some it helps or inspire to get similar ones in a future. Those Polk Speaker are the ones I'm looking for btw. That setup is insanely great!
I also agree that just showing pics of movies and not the setup isn't really contributing to the thread, i mean the pics just showing the movie still is not helping mutch to see the setup. But a general pic of the setup is better.

I notice there is a slight dip in vertical right before lunch. Do you have low blood sugar levels? That would account for the slight dip and then the sudden elevation after you eat lunch - it holds pretty steady too, until the sudden drop-off of course.

That's great and all, but if I have to scroll through 20 screen shots that easily appear on the back of the game case itself, it gets old. ONE screen shot is PLENTY (by that I mean 1 picture of just the screen itself). I would MUCH rather see the setup as it would be something new for me (I can experience the screenshots on my own TV, but I can't see your home theater while playing a game on m "x" system.

I'm not trying to "take shots at you here", so please don't perceive it as such but it's not the scrolling that's "hard", it's viewing the repetitive nature of the content that he is referring to.
If you enjoy browsing through screen shot after screen shot of images that can easily be taken on your display (or anyone else who posses the same media) so be it, that's your prerogative. I find it much more (and this is just one guys opinion here) enjoyable seeing how the masses utilize and maintain their systems and spaces. Lets be honest, images depicting placement of, equipment being used and overall set-up further this thread than 15 shots of a game that the majority of the people here probably own anyway...where's the intrigue in that?
Chairman7w 05-29-08, 05:55 PM Agreed.

mrTAPOUT 05-29-08, 11:45 PM fair enough, it seems people dont care 2 see how ps3 games look on different tvs. i find it ironic that in a thread titled post ur ps3 pics, people are requesting home theatre setup pics. alot of people enjoy checking game shots out, i guess not here. no worries i wont post here anymore. for the record i only got rude because the original poster made some comments about me that were out of line. i applaud those that joined him.

Ultimately, we're not seeing the quality of the picture the TV presents, yet we are seeing how our computer monitor displays it. It's like listening to someone else’s nice stereo over the phone.... Get what I'm saying.
We want to see how the PS3 is integrated into the setup. It doesn't say post your PS3 screenshots, which would be more accurately titled for just posting screenshots. I can see all these game shots on my own TV as I already own the TV, game console, and some of the games posted. If you really follow what the title says, you'd just post a picture of your PS3 and that's it.
Personally, I couldn't care less about a movie or game screenshot.
lcjrodriguez 05-30-08, 12:31 AM Lol, I've laughed so hard. The picture, the commments, the picture, did I mention the picture? LOL!
Anyway, don't people like seeing how thier screenshots compare to others? I kind of like it to be honest. Some people have thier HD panels calibrated, so you get a sense of what the intended image was supposed to look like. Also, helps with how to take great pictures, what settings people use in thier cameras to capture it.
Never understood why people were are so uptight. One would think a person were invading thier home? Almost as if these forums become a part of thier life, or lack there of? I come on guys, we don't "own" these forums. Let's stop acting like a person is wasting our time because we don't like what they are posting. Kind of silly how upset people get. The fact you went and actually drew a little picture, scanned it, and uploaded it is kind of crazy, atleast to me anyway (really funny though!!).
To the hearing someones stereo over the phone analogy...lol! That was funny, but kind of makes it sound like you don't want to see the images because of jealousy? I dunno if that was what you were implying. Sure sounded that way. May be wrong (shrug).
I don't see anything worng with posting a few screenshots, but I would definitely keep it to around 2-3 pictures at best. We can kind of get the idea with that. 5-6 pictures of the same thing is kind of overkill to be honest.
Look at it this way, when you post pictures in the XBox forum, you'll have Viper posting pics of the exact same thing right after you everytime lol. He loves posting the exact same pics of pics that others post (baffles me).
Anyway, to each his own.
I love the phone analogy as well. Perfect description; +1.
lcjrodriguez, unless you have your display ISF calibrated, your digital camera ISF calibrated, your monitor ISF calibrated, and the person viewing the image on their display also has it ISF calibrated, they are NOT seeing what it's "supposed" to look like. It seems quite useless to me, but to be honest, I'm not scared of the scroll button, so personally I rub over them, check the comments and move on. It's annoying, sure, but I really don't care.
Just don't go thinking that they are possibly seeing what you are. :)
-Brian
EDIT: LOL, to steal that analogy again, that's like saying I have my 7.1 surround sound system professionally calibrated, and I have it connected to my computer that's also calibrated to add absolutely no coloration to what I hear out of the speakers myself, and I'm using a professionally calibrated microphone so someone else can hear it exactly as I do.
Then I call someone and tell them to listen to how awesome it is on their phone :-| LOL!

You think that's funny eh? to be honest if we dont do laundry for a week, we would have to do a load of laundry every 2-3 hours for about 2 days straight to catch up, plus folding and putting away. That what you see there is just the tip of the iceberg...

your PS3 is very dusty, albeit your whole systems setup is probably dusty... just get a swifter duster and pass it by your components at least once a week or if you are a smoker or have a humidifier in the room then at least 2-3 times a week. this prevents from dust getting through the intake air of your components....

Dude, are you kidding me? Are you *really* that dense? (I know the answer is no, and that you're continuing to just feed the fire and we, being the dummies we are, keep responding), but the VERY first post in this thread says very clearly:
"For those of you who got your hands on the system, lets see how the PS3 looks in your setup and/or the games. Tell us what components you have in your system."
Come on Bro... Seriously.
ckenisell 05-31-08, 01:00 PM I figured the dust comments would be the first thing mentioned here.
Honestly, it's not that dusty it's just that I have a really good camera and took a close-up shot. Combine that with the fact that I used a flash and it's white dust on glossy black/chrome components, it really shows up well. I'd be willing to bet if the people who posted pics in this thread took close-ups like mine, they'd have just as much or more dust.
Or, if I posted a shot of my entire setup, the dust wouldn't even show.
Having said that, I'm off to dust my PS3. ;)

lcjrodriguez 06-01-08, 08:23 PM I have never seen more crying in life. Sad part is, it's like this in every ps3 forum I've encountered on the net. This only leads to me believe that a majority of people that are fanboys are just little snobs that can't get over themselves. I created a post your screenshots forum cuz people were complaining about it in here, and they still managed to be rude and complain.
Ridiculous...
surfthedrum13 06-01-08, 08:38 PM so, by this logic, if someone posted the same picture over and over (which is what annoying people do quoting an entire long post), you would be pretty happy huh?

DaGamePimp 06-02-08, 12:40 AM Actually quoting pics uses more system resources for AVS so it is best to just avoid doing so , but if you must then try to quote a single pic and not the entire posters collection ;) . Besides that I would have to agree that quoting pics that are only a few posts above is annoying and usually not required . Now if you are wanting to quote a pic from many pages back then of course it makes more sense .

bplewis24 06-02-08, 02:13 AM Cleaned up the thread, guys.
Keep the personal remarks off the board. Next person to ignore that will get some much needed time off.
Post pics of setups, displays, whatever.
If you guys did not already read the above, I strongly suggest you do it again. All of the unreasonable people who insist on attacking those folks who want to post screenshots from their PS3 should understand that this is not your personal thread. Nor are you allowed to put constraints on how many screenshots can be posted. Nobody cares what you find boring or how tired you are of seeing Uncharted and Gran Turismo. This is a picture thread...and just because the majority of people insist on being jerks about it doesn't mean the minority should cave to their nonsensical demands (such as stop posting pics of your PS3 screenshots in a "PS3 Pics" thread). The PS3 screenshot posters could be just as anal and nonsensical by demanding that all of the pics of speakers and couches be removed since they don't have a PS3 in the picture. But for some reason they are above that. Odd.
I sincerely hope people continue posting screenshots as they see fit, and if posters continue to clutter the thread with arguments about it I hope they are suspended. I've already lowered my subscription to this thread to "weekly update" since there are 5 argument posts for every picture. Now it's up to 2 pages of arguments for every picture.
Lastly, it is considered polite to remove the picture tags from a post when you quote somebody. And it also causes more bandwith usage on the host site when you repost them.
Brandon
ckenisell 06-02-08, 08:27 AM Actually quoting pics uses more system resources for AVS so it is best to just avoid doing so...

Actually, it's not much for avsforum. The pics are mostly hosted by other sites.
...it also causes more bandwith usage on the host site when you repost them.
Brandon
This is more correct. It's the photo host that gets the bandwidth/resource hit.
tleavit 06-02-08, 10:21 AM I find your post hypocritical, just wanted to say that and remind you that this is what the moderator posted.

I would think you would want to take that advice before posting something like that calling people “Jerks” or "Anal" and all. Last time I looked I did not see a "moderator" badge next to your name that enables you to post what we should expect people to act like in this thread.

You mean like telling people to stop posting pictures of certain things, or that they are posting too many pictures, etc...
I agree completely. Those decisions should be left to mods, don't ya think?

Incorrect. Moderators control "behavior" such as your personal attacks as I said in my post.
RAVEN56706 06-02-08, 12:22 PM ok guys... lets get something straight here.... the Post your PS3 Pics is as the moderator said for movie pics from your ps3, games pics from your ps3, setups of your ps3, sometimes the movies you had, maybe someone pointing at the ps3, hell a disgusting dirty room where your ps3 setup is in, hell even where your grandma is sleeping watching something on the ps3....
if you have a problem with someone posting different pictures of movies on the ps3, then just scroll down or click on the x button at the top of your browser.... if you have a problem with someone quoting someone who has ten pictures on it.... you need to use the scroll option or if its a loading or speed function, call the geek squad to check your computer or your local internet provider...
NOW... lets get back to seeing the pictures again because i enjoy the setups here and how the thread has been run already...
how is that Budlight lime? i havent tried it...i'm kinda scared it might taste like shat. but i am curious?

Just joined the PS3/Blu-Ray club today! I told myself I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon until I could get a full featured Blu-Ray player for the same price I paid for my first HD-DVD player (~$250). With BB matching Wal-Mart $100GC promotion in addition to the $100GC BB gave me for HD-DVD's death, I was essentially able to pick up a PS3 for $200!
Definitely impressed by the PS3's speed, functionality, and how QUIET the thing runs. Gonna grab the IR receiver from gamestop tomorrow so I can program my Harmony to work with it.

well i dont use both at the same time...its one or the other. i don't watch t.v. only movies and video games. but when u sit in a reclining chair, all u have to do really is tilt your eyes north a few degrees
when i watch a movie i just jump back a few feet and chill out on the sofa (and then can put my feet up on my chair). it works out nice.
i guess my ionizing fan cuts down on dust. (never thought bout that)! i just wiped it real quick with my hand b4 i took the photo

How far away are your seats from the front speakers?
In the pic, it seems quite far, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 times the distance compared to your front L/R from each other.
Just thinking stereo imaging would be lacking a little; maybe less or no toe in?
Also, are there surrounds in there? I think I might see some dangling from the back wall (not sure).
And if that's a sub next to your seats, it looks like a BEAST! LOL! (just hope you have a low crossover!
Very nice clean setup though, it's gotta be fantasitc!

MaxDam77 06-03-08, 11:41 AM Holler, This is a fantastic set up.
Thanks for the comments guys! My home theater is actually pretty low budget compared to what a lot of other members have, but I'm pretty happy with what we've accomplished.
At first we didn't even think it would be possible to put a projector in our basement due to the 7ft ceiling (and of course PRICE), but after a lot of research (thanks to AVS) we were able to get it done!
We're upgrading our pieces as we see great deals - just this week alone we purchased a PS3 and an Onkyo 805 since the deals were WAAY to good to pass on.
The gear is as follows:
Projector - Mitsubishi HD1000u
Screen - DIY WilsonArt Laminate
L/R - Axiom M22
C - Axiom VP150
Rear (7.1) - Bose dual cubes (Guess what's being upgraded next? ;-) )
Sub - HSU VTF 3.3
Onkyo 605 (805 arriving at the end of week)
Toshiba A2
PS3
This summer we plan on doing some more modifications to the theater including building a small stage (darker carpet color for the stage to prevent light reflecting) and adding acoustic panels. Also need to retouch some paint as flat paint seems to scuff pretty easily. During the winter the back part of our basement flooded so the carpet needs a shampoo as well.
Here's a pic before I became a member of AVS

Here's a screenshot of the PQ (although my camera is a POS so there is a lot of crush)
