teckademic ,

Is that AJ on your screen ? If so where did you get it ? My wife will like that better than the 'God of War' theme that I usually have running ( which she hates , but she luvs AJ ;) ) .

Thanks ,
- Jason

it sure is, but I can't remember where I got the pic from. I found it through a random wallpaper website search.

How did you get the King Kong HD-DVD to play in your PS3?

Sorry, if you didn't read the previous post I had just purchased the PS3 literally 2 days ago and my Onkyo 805 just arrived yesterday. Needless to say, I haven't have the time to take a picture of a Blu-Ray screenshot since I've spent the last couple days enjoying my new toys. A previous poster asked for some screenshots of a projected image so I posted what I had available.

lol..u would really crap your pants if i told u its a screensaver too...it changes like 4 times, but on the xmb screen!

ill post the other themes too.

u can go to http://www.ps3-themes.com to find all types of themes.

it gives u instructions on how to make em work. either download em to a memory stick....or just browse there with the ps3 browser (easiest).

have fun!

Here's my setup in progress--it was a real pain in the butt because we had to remove stone shelves from the fireplace in order to get a flat surface to hang the plasma- still haven't gotten all the bricks back to the same color yet.

I just mounted my Sony 52XBR4 with a mount that I purchased at Monoprice. And for $25 it is a real quality tilt mount I can't recommend it more. The speakers are Swan 2.1s and a C3. We have a one bedroom apartment so things are tight but I try to make the most of the space. That hideous table is being replace on tuesday as well.

Not bad at all for a 1 bedroom! I like the setup, colors and all. Seems relaxing

I'd try to get those speakers off the wall as much as possible though...

Yeah that is in our Living Room/Dining Room/Office. For some reason the speakers look flush with the wall there, they are actually 4" off the wall. With all my money invested in this stuff it's hard for me to purchase a respectable digital camera...hehe... Lots of work has been done in this room. The R2 mounted under the counter still needs to have the wire hidden...any suggestions there? The other R2 is on a speaker stand behind the curtains making it barely visible. I Would love to mount it but that side is all glass:o

So here are some pictures of the viewing area. The curtains really block the light when it comes time for some serious viewing. And Here is a photo of what our finished dining corner should look like...pretty practical piece for a one bedroom...

What is holding up your center speaker?

DaGamePimp
06-11-08, 07:45 PM
Whatever is holding it up needs to be raised and the speaker needs to be tilted toward the main listening position (unless the pic is an optical illusion and the speakers are not actually lower than the top of the tv) . Behind the tv will actually effect the centers SQ as well even if it is lifted a bit so maybe consider bringing it forward as well . Just some constructive advice which the owner probably already knows ;) .

Very clean system !

Thank you Jason, I will be moving the center speaker up a bit, but as for it being tilted forward, that simply would not work with what I use to hold it up. The center speaker is pretty heavy to boot. currently the surround set up the way it is sounds amazing, thanks to the Onkyo 705. I cannot recommend HD sound enough!!! The Onkyo + PS3 = AMAZING!

By the way for the center I use these mounts... (drilled into studs to support the weight, of course).

Nice clean setup man!!

I think with those brackets for the center channel you could still tilt the speaker forward. If you raised the speaker and just gave it a slight tilt it would make a noticeable difference.

Stop by the hardware store a get some chair leg pads that peel-and-sitck and apply them to the back part of the bracket where the speaker sits. One or two should give the speaker a nice tilt forward.

Again, I love the cleanliness of the setup.

DblHelix, the rack is part of the Zline series (model ZL22-1SU). I purchased it from CC the day before I received my 55A3000 (55"). They no longer carry this size; but, I have seen one here:

Those are in-game, and look better in person as the Viper suggested. You can tell which are and are not by the icons in the corners. If there are icons, it's in game, if not they are cut scenes.

I haven't played a game on my 123" JVC RS1 in months, I fired up the surround sound and turn the sub on (I'm in an apartment and I don't care if my neighbors mind or not). This game is AMAZING! I'd post pictures but it just doesn't do it justice. The audio is Phenomenal as well!

By the way Viper, great pic's. Your set looks like it was professionally calibrated.

this is the first time that in-game graphics look like pre-rendered, the detail and lighting on that armored truck is beyond words......now if it was only in 1080p.

MGS4 graphics pretty much blows everything else out the water....including I believe Killzone 2, Gears of War 2. COD 4 and Crysis.

am I right? or these pics make the game look particularly good.

this game reminds me of the Matrix, everything looks monochromatic with a greenish tinge.

I can only disagree on 2 of those. Crysis is leaps and bounds ahead of MGS4, and Gears of War 2 may have a little edge in terms of graphics. But this is not the best looking game ever made.

Yea, but you have to have a 10,000 computer and setup just to run Crysis, and from what im told, even after all that, its still not that good of a game, play wise.

Gears of war 2 looks amazing, will deffently get it, along with force unleashed for all systems, mercenaries, and of course, ghostbusters for all systems.

ME is set to "standard" most of the time; but, yeah, sometimes I'll set it to high (depending on the movie). All other enhancers (CM, MN) are off since they seem to produce a weird "video" like effect. For games, all enhancers are off (ME too) and I don't use "Game/Text" mode.

SSE is definitely noticable. Especially when compared to the old Sammy 50" I had just before the Sony. The image it produces is far better though. The SSE doesn't bother me like it used to.

Who ever thinks that this game does not look good enough, or it is not using shaders, or the latest technology they are simply kidding them selfs. Or suffer from vision loss. You may deny all you want, but MGS4 pushes the standard high! Both in presentation, and graphic fidelity.

Who ever think the textures are flat well in some essence sure, but everything that needs to be rendered properly is there. And if you think there is no texture, then you are kidding your self. Just look at the leather on the chair where sunny spends half of her time.

Everything is done using the in game engine. Scenes, and actual game play.

Guys great pictures ^ keep em coming. I am getting ready to do mine next.

Have you played MGS4? There is just as much blooming as the Default setting in Gears. If you don't like Bloom, set it to soft.

4 Doesn't look that much better then 3.

Go search on google for forums posting screenshots from within the game. It does not look nearly as good as the shots from a TV. Best looking PS3 game by a mile, does not top GoW1(and most definitely not 2) or Crysis.

I just happened to buy that sub a couple days ago ($90 at circuit city if you do online or store pickup, but not if you buy in-person from a B&M). Would you happen to know a way to lengthen the time of the auto shutoff? I've often had situations where it turns off a little too soon, when there's just a few minutes of no bass (Example: dialog sequences in GTA4). Seems like it'd be better if the thing stayed on for a good 30 minutes or so before going into power-save mode.

Btw, I got the Denon $400.00 bucks heh, it's that much of a discount. Got the Kefs from CC for $999.99. Cheapest price I found.

I disagree. I don't think there would be any improvement considering he'd be moving the left speaker closer to the wall and the right one in a more opened up area. If anything, the sub could be moved to the corner, and the table could be placed on the opposite side; otherwise, anolefan's setup is good as is.

Come on, not everyone has reached that far. I usually don't complain but someone did make a MGS4 picture thread didn't they.

I highly doubt those screen shots ruined anything for anyone. it's not like they are cinematics or anything.

I disagree. I don't think there would be any improvement considering he'd be moving the left speaker closer to the wall and the right one in a more opened up area. If anything, the sub could be moved to the corner, and the table could be placed on the opposite side; otherwise, anolefan's setup is good as is.

Well, I won’t argue that your idea works but according to standards of surround sound. The front speakers to the center and then the listening position should form a "T". According to you statement, taking that the front speakers are about 2 feet from the center, the best listening position of this current setup is about 3 feet from the front of it. Like I said, that can work, but I don’t think it does in his setup. The location of the speakers only matter if they have rear ports on the back that aren’t given enough space for breathing room.

In fact, as an Rti-8 owner myself (same as his fronts) I can tell you that their placement right now is to close to the back wall and limiting the rear ports. Pull them out 6", spread them apart and toe them in.

Here’s some links to further your education:

Now, the bold part of the quote I agree with. Your previous post recommending him placing the left speaker where the table is (in the corner) is just trading one set of problems for another. While spreading the speakers apart could increase stage width, placing them too close to side walls could cause soundstage smearing defeating the purpose of spreading the speakers apart for a wider soundstage in the first place.

It's obvious compromises had to be made with his speaker placement; but, IMO, there is no need to trade one set of compromises for another. Hell, it's his system to experiment with though.

The location of the speakers only matter if they have rear ports on the back that aren’t given enough space for breathing room.

Location is always important rear ports or not.

Re: you having the same speakers, I see you have'em pretty close to the side walls even though you have room to play with. Have you tried optomizing placement to give'em more breathing room? Here is what I use:

RW x .276 = Distance from the center of the woofer face to the side walls

RW x .447 = Distance from the center of the woofer face to the wall behind the speaker

Try it if you get a chance, and bring those fronts in.

I thought I was segregated to the Apartment thread, but I see others from that thread in hear too, so I'll add mine, including some before shots from 2007.

This is before my H/K AVR85 crapped out. That one piece of equipment failed and I bought all new stuff. The wife was really pleased! Hahaha... I also installed the bamboo hardwoods myself in March. Saved a few K doing it over my vacation.

That's the same color as out living room. But there's no way I could take out our carpet and put in hard wood flooring. Don't you get wicked echo off of that floor? Sure, the rug probably helps, but the speakers are right there on the hard wood floor.

My front speakers are perfectly positioned for my listening positions (15' to 20' feet back). They are more than 2 feet from the side (toed in) and rear wall (Plenty of space according to Polks recommendations) along with having acoustic panels at their reflection points. They are sitting at the exact perfect angle recommended for fronts along with how they are toed in.

Thanks tleavit and Lil' Louie for the feedback. As you can see I'm a bit challenged for space. This set up (minus the display) was originally ordered for our living room, but I wanted something a bit more dedicated so a crammed it into my 11 x 11 loft area. I'll give both a shot and see what is more suitable to the room. I appreciate your suggestions!

I was worried about an echo effect, but surprisingly there is none, or it's so minute I don't notice it. Under the flooring is a really thick rubber mat which helps greatly. We had to get the carpet out. Three cats, one of which had some "issues" with the litter box made it unpleasant to say the least. When we finally get a house there will be a dedicated home theater room with carpet, don't worry :)

Nice. Good to hear there's little to no echo. :)

Maybe its the pic. The speakers look like they could greatly benefit being moved out and in a bit. Kudos on your HT. ;)

are those in game shots?

Yes and no actually, they're paused screens from the replay mode, but there really isn't any visible difference between gameplay and replay picture quality. It all looks very good, especially the tracks and the lighting are very well done and have that gritty racing feel. I actually prefer it to the ultraclean GT5Prologue graphics. One thing I have to say though is that there are some screen tearing issues but it never really detracts from the experience. I may post some more shots later if you like em.

Edit: one more then :)
http://i31.tinypic.com/1607yxl.jpg

I'm really digging NASCAR 09 btw, I can't stop playing it. I'd read that past EA NASCAR games were not very good but 09 is a very polished quality product imo, from the menu to the driving to the presentation. I don't think a lot of people are playing it though which is a shame because I think anyone that likes racing games would love it.

Yes, they improved the sound in my room and I did make them myself. I got all the info I needed to make them from this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=255432)thread. There is a hell of a lot to read, but all the info you need is in there. I used the mirror method, with the help of my wife, to locate where to place them.

Thanks for the compliment, that picture is just part of my basement, I finished the entire thing myself in about a year. I would come in from work, eat dinner and work until about midnight every night. Once it was done it was great to see the finished product. :D

Lo-Lo...

What I wanna know is how much $$$ did you put into that set-up?

I did it a little at a time so the hit wasn't as bad as if I purchased everything at once.

The first year was spent finishing the basement, the next year I bought my first projector, a screen, a receiver and my front speakers. Then I bought my first sub. The next year I bought all the rest of the speakers, a used amp and the chairs. Then I sold my sub and bought the dual subs you see up front. Then I bought the last sub, the small one by the chairs. This year I changed the projector and the receiver.

As for how much money I have spent????? I would rather not think about that ;) (but my wife knows how much I spent).

By the way Shorty, if you are interested, I still have my previous projector and receiver, if you are interested give me a holler and I will give you a GREAT price, seriously.

Ok, so here is my system, a little vague on the desc b/c I can't remember the models of the gear.

Denon Receiver, Velodyne Sub, Tivo S3, Panny PHXX Plasma, PS3, ps3toothfairy (shameless plug), and my custom remote LED controller. The gear is in a modified wine cabinet. The pictures are with the doors open, but normally they are closed and there is an IR distribution going into the cabinet. The floor is hardwood and the back wall is stone so the acoustics are bad.

the easiest way is to sign up at a place like photobucket dot com and load the pics you want there. Then there is a place that below the pic that says image code, and you can just copy and paste that to your post and shazam you have a posted pic. You can also just add pics through attachments in the "reply to thread" but that makes people have to click on the picture to look at it. Hope that helps

Cool.

Are you using HDMI from the Motorola DVR through AVR to Pioneer?
If so, any issues with that?
I frequently have what I think is an HDMI handshake issue.. loss of Video, then Audio loss, then Audio returns, then Video returns... this cycle will be from once to five or six times. I would think another HDMI device in the chain would make it even worse.
Had this with Comcast DVR, and now with FiOS DVR. (both motorola)

I wonder if the 2x1 could be used in reverse... 1 IN, 2 OUT.

Mazda74Speed3
10-27-08, 12:20 AM
The 1st thing everybody asks me is does you Xbox360 and PS3 overheat and the answer is no. I have intake fans on bottom and exhaust fans on top and the rack is totally enclosed. The shelves are also vented and I have temp sensors on each shelf so if something does get hot the fans will turn on and cool the rack down, but even when I watch movies or game for a long time my fans rarely come on.

Dig the B&W's. I'm curious how the center does so low? Looks like you might get some weird reflections off of your coffee table. I've thought about reconfiguring my component stand to get the center lower so I can lower my screen a bit.

The VHS/CD Burner is the last of the bunch with a bulit in tuner card. I was running my cable TV through it before I got the HD cable box. I use it to record hockey games and play any old VHS tapes or transfer and old VHS tapes to DVD's. The CD Player is a Sony ES line so I am not sure where you are going with that. It is rock solid. The DVD player is one of Denon's newest non-BR players. Upsacels to 1080p, plays MP3's and processes SACD's.

The oldest piece in my rack would be the CD player which I purchased back in 2003.

1998 ha ha that is funny a-hole.

Exactly what I was thinking , lol ;) .

Seriously though there have been some amazing set ups posted in this thread (as well as the similar threads in the 360 forum) and it is not a contest , it's more about sharing our enthusiasm for home theater/gaming . It does not matter if you have spent hundreds , thousands , tens of thousands or beyond , what matters is that you enjoy what you have and take pride in what you have put together . We can all pick out things that we like and things that we don't like in every set up but that is part of what keeps the pic sharing interesting . Most of us are DIY and to me that is a big part of what makes this hobby so much fun :D .

They make large enough cabinets to prevent any holes in the wall........unless you are atrocious at darts. I use a cabinet made for an electronic dart board (I only use steel) so the wifey can play without fear of destroying the walls.

Cool, I have that same amp. I should post some pics sometime of my LR and BR setups. I use that amp in a weird way, though. The amp in my Sunfire sub died, and since I plan on getting a bunch of new stuff soon anyway, I just modified the sub to accept power from the Rotel. I've had that amp now for 10 years and it's been flawless.

Yo Crippler, you got any new updated pics of your setup? I'd like to see your complete Berrylium speaker setup if possible. Including the rear channels.

Hey Rieper, I am in the process of putting together my Man Cave so my set up will look much different. We will be moving the equipment to a more controlled environment (bonus room) which is about 11x22.

We already took the first step, I sold my 70" SXRD a got a new Pioneer Elite FD111. I truly do miss the size of the Sony but I am in the market for a front projector and a screen that will come down in front of the pioneer. If I find time today I will post new picks of how my set up looks now before I move it.

He has not posted to AVS in almost 5 months so maybe he just left the site ? I think he was working for Epic (Gears) so maybe Gears 2 has consumed him ... ?

Hey Layd...how did you get those seats through the door??

One would assume via the "pushing" method. Failing that, more than likely the "pulling" method was employed. :p

If they're anything like my 10' wide 3-seater,
...they come apart fairly easily into 3 separate peices
some even break down into 6 pieces (separate backs/seats)

BTW, nice play room Layd Dly, any plans for FP?

That room has Projector/Screen written all over it ;)
(total ambient light control)

Intriguing idea!! I always wanted to put a '67 Mustang Coupe in my basement... now I know how to do it for the next house I build! Thanks! :D

You guys crack me up, the chairs do seperate but i did push the box into the room as opposed to pulling :) and yes i did have the contractors build my room specifically around my Furute Theater Seating Requirements lol j/k:D.

And yes the original idea was to do FP all along butwith a 720P, but as 1080P started to roll out further i decided to wait but when the new TV Bug bit me, 1080P projectors were still over 3K and $1750 to $3K was to hard for me to sell to the SO. But now that they've come down in price and Best Buy B&M carries some now it will eventually happen.

So far Im on par for buying a net Set each year. Started with a 32" 720P LCD (Now in Bedroom), then a year later a 42" 1080P LCD (In Living Room), and then this past June The 61" 1080P DLP seen above. So Maybe around June/July Next Year I might have a FP in the room. :D

Layd - in all seriousness awesome use of the available space... looks like a room anyone would have a great time watching TV or playing a game in... especially since the chairs all have the required built-in beer holders. :D

Thanks man, im trying to find a place for a mini fridge or at least that new Heineken Mini Keg Tap, but as you can tell the room is limits what i can actually do.

And you should've seen the room before, Think Office with extra furniture old tv stand and tube tv and a metric ass-ton of computer parts and equipment (I work in IT, and love to keep useless things i might eventually need 25 years from now :D)

I eventually got off my ass and cleaned it all up when the TV Bug bit me and the SO didnt want a 61" tv in the living room. I had always wanted to use the room for a dedicated HT anyways. So i then put all of our extra funiture and tables on Craigs List which helps fund part of my chairs. Overall it has come along pretty well with a limited budget in 4-5 Months.

Hopefully this weekend im going to go get some paint and start painting the room a Flat Enamel Slate Gray.

Glad to see other Magic fans on the board... there doesn't seem to be many TRUE fans here in Orlando... but wait until we start winning.

Cool... I try to make it to 10-20 games a year... tonight, I'll be watching on my new 46a750... Although, Barkley will most likely talk about how much he loves the sixers and how irrelevant the magic are

Hey, it's been awhile...nice having you back. Can't wait to see the new Man Cave.

I had a similar setup to your plans. I wall-mounted a Panny 50-inch plasma and then I bought Da-lite extension brackets so the screen would drop down in front of the plasma. Very simple to put together and looked nice and clean.

I actually just used hooks(80 pound each hook) that are barely noticeable and only cost me a few dollars. I had originally looked at those brackets, but realized I could just use these "cheap" hooks. All I had to do was hook them into a ceiling on a joist and I was done. This was for a 8 ft screen.

Sweet looking set up but you need to do something about those exposed wires hanging down from the TV.... I suggest going to Home Depot and picking up some Wire Paneling.... You can cut it down to a small section and paint it the same color as your wall.... It will look MUCH cleaner after you add that....
