Well guys i finally got a wire cover for the wires hanging below my TV. Works/looks great! much better IMO.

P.S.- here is a fun screenshot from the movie Kung Fu Panda that i watched tonight. Perhaps the best audio visual experience i have had with a movie. The surround mix was just fantastic, and the lows were just great! i highly recommend this to everyone!

yea it's a wimpy little custom sub i made. it's a Shiva-X in 3.3 cubes sealed with an O-audio 500 watt bash plate amp. she does good on music and for video games but she gets killed with certain movies.

Currently living in Korea in a dorm room, so I'm limited on space, but for now I upgraded to a 40" 1080p Sony Bravia from a 32" 720p Sony...the difference is amazing, especially the contrast ratio difference.

How does the ps3 look on the 750?
Any noticeable lag playing games?
Would you buy a different lcd if you had to do it over again?

Thanks,

Thanks, i definitely enjoy the setup.

I would ABSOLUTELY buy this LCD again, every day of the week. I read/skimmed this entire thread, and saw all of the comments about lag, especially from aquastorm. I think he may just have his equipment setup incorrectly, or he's just creating problems for the hell of it, because i have ZERO lag with this TV. I have played every type of game from Madden, NHL, guitar hero, COD4.....and no lag. I recently got 007 Quantum of Solace, Resistance 2, and COD World at War, and NONE of those three games have any lag whatsoever.

The PS3 looks incredible on this set, btw, truly mindblowing. The blu-ray picture quality is to die for.

I used this low profile mount from Monoprice:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082807&p_id=4114&seq=1&format=2

My in-law actually manufactures a lot of mounts for a lot of different companies out there and he says its basically all the same quality.

some people complained about the mounting bolts that came with this, but mine were fine.

I had the WS-60 (LCR) and WS-15 (surround).....They were great for the money for sound and looks. I would still have them if my friend didn't offer to buy it from me. The MA and Paradigm however had a stronger Mid-range.

Thanks. I am considering either the WS-60 ($100 each) or HTD Flat Panel Speaker ($150 each) for my fronts to be mounted on wall next to Panasonic th58pz800u. I am also considering the Paradigm and MA, but those are at a different price level. Since you have heard 2 of the 3 would you say the Paradigm and MA are worth the extra $200-$300 more each?

Also, do you have any pictures of the ws-60 mounted and where did you get your Paradigms and MA? Sorry for all the questions.

No problem...It really depends on your budget and room layout. I was satisfied with the Athena's, but I would definitely think the MA and paradigms are worth the extra cash (both are purchased from a local Chicago dealer, send me a PM if you want the names). I would definitely go check out your local dealer, they sometimes have a demo that you can audition at your house. Check out the on-wall speaker thread for more details and reviews...

Great use of the space Derick! It looks awesome. I have an area in my unfinished basement with almost the exact same layout with the stairs right there, ceiling height, etc. and I never would have thought to situate it like you have! Great job!

We recently built an extension, and my dad and I decided to call dibs on the basement portion for some home theater goodness. :D It's a work in progress, but we've been making good use of it already. We've since added curtains to cover the windows/the stairwell area and are planning to add some sound paneling. (the TV to the right is usually not there, just a temporary extra setup for some Smash)

I love the setup as well!

BTW, it looks like you probably have access to the back of the rack under the stairs. If so, you are a lucky man!

Have you considered doing a Middle Atlantic type rack in that space? It would be perfect for one! I did a sliding/rotating version because I don't really have rear access, but you wouldn't need to do that.

I used Performanceaudio.com, and their prices are excellent. A Slim5 for your app would only be a couple hundred bucks, plus the rackshelves of course, but you don't that many components so it wouldn't be a bank breaker.

I really like the looks of what you have got going on!

Thanks for the suggestion, I was actually looking to change my rack since the depth of my current shelf is not enough for me to add banana plugs on my receiver. I'll definitely add the slim5 on my list....however I prefer something wider like the Salamander unit (forgot the model #).

I know if you apply a PS3 theme it will usually come with unique icons. If there is a way to change them individually, then I don't have an answer for you. Try here, you can go straight from your PS3 browser:

What kind of Speakers are those? Picture was kind of fuzzy. If you like the audio in GH 3. Wait until you pick up GH WT. Much better recording and audio reproduction, and you can control the loudness of the Bass or Guitar track playback

Hey there!!
i got couple of questions for you, I'm planning on hanging my tv to the wall as well and your setup looks great. acn i get your insight on how you did it. did you run the cables through a hole on the wall or did you actually installed an electrical outlet and HDMI plate. One other proiblem i'm running into is that the selected wall is on outside wall and I'm pretty sure it's insulated even for the basemant...

Do I have to take the insulation out or is it safe to go overtop the plastic and run the cable. if this is the case I dont think I'll be actually laying out the electrical...

anything would help

thank you

Hey thanks, the towers are Reference RF25s and the center is a Reference RC35. I have 4 more RF15s for surrounds that have not been in use since I got married (lol) so I'm looking to sell them and purchase either 4 in-ceiling Reference speakers or 4 outdoor in white to match the ceiling. I also use a Velodyne CT-150 as my sub but am looking to sell that as well for something more compact with better defined low-end and more WAF(i.e. 1 or 2 10" mini-vees). We'll see.

Yeah photography is just not my thing. Thanks for the tip though, I think I'll try it. :)

Yep Nice setup I agree.
I never saw it that way but you are right, having all the movies showing up do "cheapens" a little. Mine are hidden in cabinet because of the kids mainly and some time when people come over start putting hands on the Blu rays and PS3 games so I hid them.

Yamaha RX-V663 AVR
DirecTV HD/DVR
PolkAudio TSi200s, CS10 & PSW110 (TSi100s in the back of the room for surround)

I'm about to beat Metal Gear, so I didn't post pics of the final act to make sure I don't spoil it for those who aren't that far. When I'm done I'll have to post some pics of Act 1. BTW, this is 720p at the moment. HDMI cables coming in the mail next week so I'll have 1080p MGS4 pics if anyone cares to see them.

Don't I know it. The 100s in the back are sitting up about 4 feet and I need to do the same with the 200s. I blew all my spending money on the TV so I'll have to save up for some stands. Anyone have a recommendation for where to find some? Or, anybody want to make some cash and build me some?! :D

Thanks....Finally just got warhawk working on the ps3. It has been a nightmare. Finally after reconfiguring the connection and deleting some stuff, was able to get started. Having a very hard time learning this game with the controls. Had to invert some controls. Need to use alot of buttons...hopefully it will become second nature, like cod4, which I can play pretty well. One thing I like is the sound...excellent and enveloping!

Some really nice setups here. I have a special situation where I have no room for a tv stand and the only place I can hang the TV in my 700 sf condo is over a loveseat. Not too bad because I sit right across from the TV on the couch. If I have company over, the love seat is on sliders and I arrange it perpendicular to the couch. Too lazy to move and take pics.
My 42" Panny 1080P plasma. Speakers are good enough for such a small place. Polk CS2 for center and Monitor 30's for fronts, M10's for rear and PSW10 for sub. The wife wasn't down with the espresso HT friendly paint at first but I talked her into it by mixing in a little glitter. You can hardly tell from the pic though.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj115/imdjenk/IMG_0647.jpg

My components are simple. Onkyo 605, UC Onkyo DVD, PS3 streaming from
P4 (hard wired of course) in the bedroom with 1TB worth of VOB's, DirecTV HD DVR and an old school Sony 200 CD changer. Yes, that hole is getting covered up.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj115/imdjenk/IMG_0655.jpg

TV is on an articulating mount that extends up to 2 feet from the wall and pivots in either direction. This is great because my wife and I can watch TV from the Kitchen. Be warned, do not buy a mount from eBay. Notice the pin for the pivot joint is bent, scary.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj115/imdjenk/IMG_0658.jpg

I rigged in a couple brackets for my center channel. This way if I'm in the kitchen watching the news, I don't have a soundstage but I have a direct line of sound to the center for dialogue.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj115/imdjenk/IMG_0659.jpg

Still suck at screen shots.

Is your center directly attached to the tv and it's mount? If so that'd be a prime candidate for the bent pin, especially with a single pivot arm mount for that big a tv(unless the pin was bent before that which would make that attached speaker an even bigger issue). Ever think of getting a double swing arm for more stability? That's a lot of weight pulling down that arm.

The center is mounted to the TV. I didn't think it would be a problem because my TV's specified weight(don't remember it off hand) was 60% of the capacity of the mount, so I thought there was plenty of tolerance there. I should have known not to get the cheap crap off ebay. I am forced to get a new mount so I will definitely look into the double swing arm. Do you know a good source? I'm going to browse monoprice in the meantime, thanks for the advice.

didn't want to sound like a party pooper but that mount really looks crooked! (on the pic that is...)

Doing some final touches, but we've been watching HDTV past few months, playing with PS3 since after Thanksgiving 2008.

6 and 4 year old have NO problem with 98% of the game.

Thx, the IB sub is kinda unusual for most Home Theaters.
The Star Wars lego game has some LFE and background "rumble" going on, enough to keep the EP2500 amp kicking the bass now and then.

When I did the HT gaming was not really on my design parameter list, I'm happy to say the can lights I put overhead on a dimmer are perfect for gaming.
Putting them on low dim makes it easy to see people and still the screen is bright enough for viewing.

Figured I'd post a pic of my bedroom setup, although it isn't completed, and never will be, seeing as I am selling it. :p

Truth of the matter is, it just doesn't get any kind of use, so I figured I may as well sell it, and put it torwards upgrading the living room setup, which gets loads of use.

My intentions were to run the wires inside the walls, and put all of the equipment in the closet. Also, I was going to wall mount the front left and right speakers.

Sham WOW! You have balls to throw a 52 inch on there. Good to know I can go that big. I was going with a 46 in but I have to sit close to the screen so a 42 was the perfect size. I think my plasma is more flush because its thinner. I know those XBR's are super thick. You shud check out the new Neo Plasmas from Panasonic coming out this spring. Samsung has a nice line coming out too that is really thin. Good to know others out there have great taste.

Thanks man ive been here since 01, the original intention was FP, but i figured if i was going to do it i wanted 1080P but the prices were still over $3000 when i bought the tv. And the size per dollar ratio was the best with this set, i also wanted the 67" but wasnt out an dgot a phenominal deal on the 61". But the next upgrade will definitely be a 1080P Projector.

There are couple of ways you can get ambient light:

1) Ikea - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20119932

2) Rope Lighting (which I use myself)

I rent as well and i mounted my TV. The lag bolt holes are not that large and can easily be covered up. Also you dont have to run wires through the wall yet. Just get a wall paintable wire cover. I have done this at the last two places i rented and i've never been called out for it.

Plasmas dont suffer from motion blur, its not a feature to look for on them. In order to reduce motion blur on LCD's you need to increase the refresh rate, so premium LCD's process at 120hz instead of 60hz.

Panasonic rates some of their plasmas at like 400ish hz, but thats just marketing hype. Remeber they are two different technologies so you look for different things.

Panasonic rates some of their plasmas at like 400ish hz, but thats just marketing hype. Remeber they are two different technologies so you look for different things.

great info! Thanks for replying and not belittling my unfamiliarity with TV technologies.

Anyways, looks like something I should be looking into in the 2nd half of this year

I rent as well and i mounted my TV. The lag bolt holes are not that large and can easily be covered up. Also you dont have to run wires through the wall yet. Just get a wall paintable wire cover. I have done this at the last two places i rented and i've never been called out for it.

It is a PN50A400. It is one of those cheap plasmas they were selling for the black Friday deals. I figure I can stick with this until I have enough money to get a projector. I am hoping to get a Sony VPL-VW60.

Already beat the game once, it's pretty awesome.
I can tell you, KZ2 hands down the best FPS (SP part) out right now. It's unbelievable how action packed is, AI is one of the best, graphics are gorgeous and the sound/music is intense. I can guarantee you won't be disappointed. Solid 9.5/10.
There are soo many good things are in the game that would worth mentioning, but due to the fact that the game is not out yet, i'll keep it to myself. I really don't want to spoil anything.

Really? Judging from the demo I thought the AI was extremely mediocre. Not totally brain dead mind you but far from what I expected. It's too easy to just hide and never have the enemy try to actually find you. Other than throwing grenades at you and the occasional flank I could hide behind a door and have 4 or 5 of them just stand there and not try to actually flush me out of my hiding spot. Maybe it gets better later in the game.

You really need to remember that you have essentially only played the training level. Judging the AI from that alone is not really fair. All of the reviews I've read so far have mentioned the enemy AI as one of the high points of the game.

I played wipeout Fusion on my ps2 and wasn't really impressed at all. Considering the name I was expecting insane crashes, but they were pretty lame. Your shields go down if you so much as bump into the wall or another racer, pretty annoying. At least you could disable weapons, I can't tell you how annoying it is to be suddenly forced to a crawl because someone hit you with a rocket.

At least I still have Burnout.

Wipeout Fusion was the worst game of the franchise. Wipeout HD is much better. It's a great game, especially for 20 bucks. And it's 1080p 60 fps, which is very rare.
