I don't know. I dont host the pics at any service. They reside on my hard drive--maybe that's the difference here.

All I do know is over at the mountain bike enthusiast site---mtbr.com---it uses the same forum software and I do the same exact thing and the pictures appear within the post. I suppose MTBR internally takes an additional step with "attachments".

People are just to picky. I care more about what the theater looks like with the lights off then with the lights on. I got wires all over the place but the front lights are never on and you would never see them (in a more dedicated theater setup).

AKA... Oh noz.. horrible wires with the lights on

I have the sub firing into my chair for some extra punch, but the rear speakers have been calibrated to compensate for their close distance, so it is pretty well balanced.

I really need to learn how to take good pics on my set.

Start off with changing your ISO to 100 or 200 if your camera permits. Have a DIY tripod or something to steady your camera on. Use the timer (I usually use 2 seconds) then just play around with the different white balance settings on your camera to see which ones best replicates what you see in real life.

So many great setups in here. Makes me want to go out and buy some nicer furniture for my bedroom. I've always been fond of the minimalist look, but I can't seem to stop myself from buying new toys. Anyway...

My setup consists of the following:

1. Sharp Aquos LC-32GP1U
2. Onkyo 605s
3. Pair of Polk M10's, which I'm using as my mains. Temporarily
4. Yamaha center and surrounds (Don't remember the model #, but they are small form factor speakers)
5. Definitive Technologies ProSub 800

Not real fancy, I know. Just wanted to participate as I enjoy these type of threads.

How did you manage to take those shots? If i try, all come out blurry, since i can't freeze the screen. There is no option on my camera to adjust the shutter speed, so i guess im stuck.

Vassillios, I have the same tv and was wondering what your settings are such as iris, brightness, picture, color, etc. and advanced settings. Also power saving on or off. I know every set is different just curious to see what you are using and maybe give them a try. There always seem to be a magic set. By the way I am really happy with settings I am using at the present time. The blacks are inky and the colors really pop.

I am using----------

PS3-----
Picture Mode: Custom
Advanced Iris: Medium
Picture: Max
Brightness: 54
Color: 55
Hue: R2
Colr temp: Warm 2
Sharpness: 30
Noise Reduction: Off

Advanced Settings----------

Black Corrector: Off
Gamma: Off
Clear White: Off
Live Color: Off
White Balance: All Default at 0
Detail Enhancer: Medium
Edge Enhancer: Off

Power Saving: On

XBOX360-----
Advanced Iris: High
Black Corrector: Low

vassillios,

hey nice setup man!!! love the Axioms! It will be rockin once you get the M80's! Careful though, they are 4ohm speakers and im not sure if you'll still be using the Denon as your receiver, but if you like to crank your stuff or watch a couple movies at a time, or play video games for hours on end, that Denon will get VERY VERY hot! It will handle 4ohm, but if you want to completely enjoy the M80's i suggest you feed them with an amplifier. If you want a low cost solution, the Emotiva LPA-1's are going for $399 right now!!! emotiva.com. I use an LPA-1 and it handles all my in home rock concerts with ease haha. Well just a suggestion, cause i've used a denon with some lower impedence speakers and man you could have a bbq on that sucker haha.

Thanks. I've been assured the Denon will hold up, as long as I don't do what you mentioned. Movies are kept at a modest level as I live in a townhouse and try to respect my neighbors. I usually only get a couple of hours of gaming in a week....but I think I may look into that emotiva, i've heard pretty good things about it.

Yeah the Denon will definately hold up, i just know its gets really hot dealing with the lower impedence and seeing that its in a closed (except for the front door) entertainment center, i dont want you to have the receiver fail on you, cause that would suck! I live in a townhouse as well, but i do like to rock out haha (its a college apartment complex, so everyone is always partying to much to care about noise lol). But i would definately recommend useing an amp, Rotel has some nice ones you can get off audigon for cheap, or even off the avs classifieds. But its hard to beat the emotiva equipment as far as bang for the buck goes. Its cheap, excellent build quality and sturdy (weighs freaking 75lbs), and has a 5 year warranty which they are awesome about! (My buddy had two channels go out on his, and he called Emotiva, they sent him a box, he sent it in, and they had him a brand new one in three days!!!) Check out emotivalounge.com (its their forum). Its my second AVS haha.

Here are some shots of my man cave w/some BD movies and PS3 games in action. Keep in mind I suck at taking pictures and my Mini-DV camera with Memory Card stick (for taking digital pics) is 10 years old, and it shows!

My set-up:

Olevia 747i 47" 1080p LCD (built-in 50W speakers are all the sound I need)
Sony Wega 27" CRT TV (for extended periods of SD gaming/TV viewing)
Yamaha 100W Sub-Woofer (the Olevia has a subwoofer output, making it a 2.1 set-up with the TV's speakers)
Scientific Atlantic 8300 HD-DVR (component)
XBox 360 w/HD-DVD add-on (component)
PS3 60GB (HDMI) on top of the Yamaha sub
Bell'O Twin 150lb stands
Sony 140lb stand.

Question on your front speaker positioning. Have you tried pointing your speakers inwards towards your couch a bit instead of straight out from the wall? I would imagine the sound stage would be better pointed inward like this diagram's fronts are:

Thanks for the speaker tip. I'll try it tonight when I get home. Before I redid my cave, I used to have the center put on a small stool. When I bought the center channel stand and put the center on that (about 1 feet up from the floor now), the sound was so much 'fuller'. I also moved my Dayton sub from the middle of the room to a corner and just doing these small adjustments contribute so much to a richer, fuller HT experiance.

Yeah, crazy how placement makes such a difference. The sub has always been the hardest for me to get right, mostly due to placement options being limited. I still haven't messed with bass traps or other accoustical treatments yet but supposedly they make a huge different as well.

See if you still have your owners guide but something like this might help as well. Your owners manual would be best though as all speakers aren't the same for how they create a sound state.

What type of screen and projector are you using. I thought I wanted a 120" screen, but that's HUGE. Do you have any gain with your screen with such a large picture?

yeah agreed, doesnt that greatly affect your listening? Your system will become better balanced if you moved the rack over to the left. But im sure he already realizez this, or maybe it doesnt make a big soudn quality difference to him.

Due to space that's the best spot for the rack. Since it's an open-rack the left front speaker still does it's job pretty nicely

What do you use to switch signal from display to projector?
I'd like to eventually add a Front Projector, and have been thinking how this would work.

I'm going through a Denon 3808 (to have volume on-screen) and sometimes have what I think is a HDMI handshake issue with STB, Denon, & display... I think it would only be worse with another device in the way.

Hey thanks.

I'm loving the 61A750 so far. I still have my 55" Mitsubishi 55315 RP HDTV if anyone is interested! Beautiful picture on that thing, just wanted bigger viewing area newer and less bulky. Solid choice with the Mitsu rjsanc.

Yes, the Onkyo speakers are satellites. I guess that's what they're called (?) Bookshelf sized speakers that came with an Onkyo HTiB that I picked up last year. Teamed up with the new receiver and uncompressed PCM, amazing freakin sound. I wish I could tell you the dimensions of my basement, but I really have no idea.

I was torn between my new 61A750 (61" Samsung LED DLP) or a 50" Kuro. Both in the low $2,000 range.
I went with real estate as my #1 priority, since the 60" Kuro starts at $4,000 and 50" was just too small. Definitely a great set though and "pound for pound" the best I've seen.

It's a 4661 with a Sony STR DG1000 (for all the sony haters out there, and I am guilty too, this is a fantastic receiver), PS3 with (60 GB original) 250 GB HDD, Xbox 360 launch, SA Comcast DVR, and probably Sony's first CD player, the CDP-23 LOL

The Velodyne VRP 1200 is a new acquisition and really got me in good with my neighbors (I'm in a town home)!!!

The fronts are (hopefully) going to be replaced shortly with some Polk Monitor 50s. I had a POS Yamaha 5.1 setup before, added the two Sansui SF2s to it for 7.1 until I could save up the $$ to upgrade my speakers.

Finally, some Uncharted Screens.

They do, but graphics certainly aren't a 10 overall. Maybe when you consider how big the game is. But why should that have to be factored in? I don't like the weird kind of filter the game has. It'll maybe grow on me, but I'm not a huge fan of the graphics right now. Plus, the game is very dark.

Still to be determined.
Early impressions - the 360 version's graphics appear more detailed and not as washed out as PS3. PS3 version looks a bit "softer", if that makes sense.

The PS3 pic I posted last page was slightly altered with Photoshop (contrast and sharpening). I'll put more unedited pics up in the GTA thread probably tonight (both versions)

after playing this game for a few hours, i can only imagine that ign got a HUUUUGE payout to give GTA IV a rating of 10. i dont think ive seen a 10 before on that site. even the most perfect games (at their respective times) would only pull in a 9.7 or 9.8 at best. and gta IV is great, but to be called PERFECT, yeah freaking right. when gran turismo 3 for ps2 came out, that was the game of all games, as flawless as it gets, and only a 9.7. im curious how much $$$ they got for the 10. hope it was worth it, because i pretty much cant take their ratings serious anymore. based on their previous ratings system, id expect this game to get somewhere around a 9.2-9.5.

if you don't believe in 10/10 ratings then GTA4 is a 9.9/10

it is literally teh most perfect game ever made. There are so few problems with it, and said problems are so incredibly minor that they aren't even worth worrying about(slight pop in, and the occasional framerate hiccup)

What is the fascination with GTA? It is the most boring game I have EVER played. What? you just walk around and do stuff? Most of the times it seems like you are the only character in the game. This takes place where, New York? Where the heck are all the people?

That doesn't have anything to do with his credibility, however, I have never been into the GTA games either. In fact, I too thought they were a tad boring.

What on earth does an OPINION have to do with anyone's credibility? Just because someone doesn't have the same opinion as you doesn't make theirs any less valid.

vassillios

Ok guys, let's not get this thread off course. I probably shouldn't have made that statement in this thread due to the amount of differing opinions it would cause....so let just pretend I said nothing. I'm happy for those who love this game and are very pleased with the new version.

Also, when I said "EVER played", keep in mind I do not play a lot of games, I pick my games based on what I like and GTA is not the style I like....just like I don't like fantasy games like Final Fantasy and the such. I'm a Driving, FPS and some sports (golf, bowling) kind of guy....so I guess that makes me the boring one ;)

for what it's worth, I think the graphics improvements in GTA 4 are very nice.

They, like every other rational person around these forums, agree that there will never be a PERFECT game because games can ALWAYS be better in some way. Otherwise if someone could develop a perfect game, what would be the point of ever making more games...you would just play the perfect one forever right!? But, if you're going to have a 10 point scale you might as well use it sometimes. Otherwise it's really a 9.9 scale.

I agree that there are things about Uncharted that are WAY better and more perfect than some things in GTA, but the same is true the other way around. We all have a game or two we'd consider "perfect," to us, but we can still be realistic that they aren't truly perfect.

there have been very few reports of the 360 version freezing

PS3 seems to be affecting more than 1/2 of GTA owners....... myself included

if I could I would return the game but I can't so I'm stuck with it:mad: at least I have a copy that works flawlessly on 360

that does a whole lotta nothing

R*'s support team told me that wouldn't do anything either when I called them. They said that some people have had success with it but that is only temporary and it will lock up again soon. They also said that at present R* has absolutely no idea what is causing the issue and that there wont likely be a fix anytime soon(as in the next week or so)

He's going by a Neogaf poll question which asked if the game was freezing on them, about 50% of PS3 owners said yes, and about 15% of 360 owners said yes...I know it's not science and some people can just be bitter fanboys, but thats what he's going by..

That and just about every gaming forum is being flooded with posts about technical problems with the GTA games, it isn't all that surprising that he picked that number. Remember the problems Assassin's Creed had? I would say this is about on par if I had to take a random guess.

I ask because I am on the edge about which version to get, why did you end up going with the PS3 version?

For starters, I don't personally own a Xbox 360, my friend does. ;)

And the game runs generally better on the PS3 with less loading times and more AA. I haven't tried online yet but I've heard there were issues on launch day, not sure about now.

Here's a great review made by a fellow gamer testing the PS3, Xbox 360 Elite and modded Xbox 360 differences for GTA4.

http://ikeagamer.blogspot.com/

Official Retail NTSC GTA IV PS3 Version:

* Load times from first appearance of the Rockstar logo to the beginning of the HDD installation was 4 seconds
* Installation to HDD completed in 7 minutes and 25 seconds
* Colors of the PS3 version compared to the ripped ISO were more natural and less contrasted
* Aliasing was also noted to be smoother, you can tell the difference by paying attention to the ships various round openings during the cut scene, PS3 AA was much better
* Clipping was not noticed during any cut scene
* More detail was witnessed during initial cut scene for the road surface texture and the character models
* Pop ins were limited to the “shimmering” effect of building shadows and certain filtering of dense trees
* Loading time during First Date cut scene was between 2-5 seconds
* “white room” during Cabaret show was not witnessed
* Fast drives, explosions, crashes, and 3 star wanted rating produced no noticeable pop in

Official Retail NTSC GTA IV XBOX 360 Version (only differences between PS3 are noted):

* Load time from first appearance of the Rockstar logo to the beginning of cut scene was 7 seconds (no HDD installation was required)
* Colors of character models and scenery during initial cut scene were more contrasted compared to both PS3 and Ripped versions
* Anti Aliasing appeared the same as the ripped version but more jaggy lines were noticed on all curved surfaces compared to PS3 version
* During initial cut scene, building silhouettes as the ship approaches the harbor were noted to pop in and out for a brief second
* Pop in for shadows and trees were more frequent. For every one shadow on the PS3, there were 3 that popped for the 360 (average).
* Fast drives, explosions, and crashes produced no noticeable pop in
* 3 star wanted rating created pop ins at the same location (hospital) for surround trees and building surface textures across the street
