ShawnPeters 12-24-07, 03:41 PM Thanks No problem. joerod 12-25-07, 11:02 PM Day one and everybody was shocked and thrilled. We played it a few hours in my theater then I set it up in the playroom. The Wii is getting a lot of playtime! :) Ronan51 12-26-07, 08:32 AM I dont know if this has been posted but here is a little wii story... got wii for christmas... placed sensor bar on tv cabinet... cat knocked sensor off... sensor broke... looked up "wii sensor replacement" on google... found article about using two lit candles about a foot apart in prior sensor placement... IT FRICKIN WORKS! WORKS BETTER THAN SENSOR BAR! INCREDIBLE! TRY IT! joerod 12-26-07, 10:01 PM If only we could do that for a tv on a wall. :) I have been using the wireless one (nyko) for my theater and it works good. I think it is cool the lit candels trick works. I wonder how they discovered it? Ronan51 12-27-07, 04:47 AM If only we could do that for a tv on a wall. :) I have been using the wireless one (nyko) for my theater and it works good. I think it is cool the lit candels trick works. I wonder how they discovered it? It has something to do with the ir light from candle...light we cant see... any way, we are 13 feet from our flat screen...we just set the candles closer to us on table and now we can play from farther away...just set the candles a foot apart and any distance from your tv screen as long as it is as close to center of your screen...works great...it just makes me laugh! They do not have to be right in front of TV. frenchmon 12-27-07, 09:42 AM Careful now...this is the holiday season. Watch-out for those cats around the candles. Don't want to read about a bad experience in the news. Holiday cheers. frenchmon riftzone 12-27-07, 06:59 PM Got one for my 6 year old as a Christmas gift. He loves it, just the fact that we actually got one was exciting enough knowing how hard it was to get. So he ripped the wrappers off and we played the whole Christmas day. Okey, here's my impression. Nintendo seems to put better quality stuff on their new consoles, last Nintendo I had was an SNES and this tops it so far including my son's DS Lite. The remote has a nice heavy balance feel and the console could've been made by Apple. Setting everything up was easy, didn't even bother looking at the quick setup guide except for synchronizing a 2nd remote. The remote came with a rubberized jacket which is a nice surprise, even the 2nd remote came with one. I read reviews here about how they had difficulties getting a wifi connection but mine was pretty quick after plugging in my WPA codes and updating only took about 20 minutes. First game I fired up was WII sports. I picked tennis and it put a big ass grin on my face as I swing and took notice of the game's instant response on-screen. I didn't expect the remote to be as sensitive and responsive, the best part is when the remote vibrates as your character's tennis racket makes contact with the ball, very nice indeed. Boxing is so-so but makes a great workout, Golf is fun and so is Bowling. My son loves Golf, while the wife had a blast with bowling. Next game was Super Mario Galaxy, now this game blew me away! This is the most fun I had in years and my son could not pull me away from the game. Every new planet was full of new challenges each different in a fun new way. The remote and nunchuk makes a great controller for Super Mario Galaxy. After Galaxy, I put on Zelda. First thing I notice was the graphics, IMHO, this has the best graphics of Zelda games Nintendo released so far. I didn't have too much time with Zelda since it was my son's turn to play.. The last game we played was Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga. The graphics are cute, but gameplay was a little repetitive. My son seems to enjoy it especially the 2 player co-op games. We're just waiting for Super Smash Brawl Brothers coming up in February, but so far Galaxy has been our favorite and I'm still looking forward to putting in more time with Zelda. As an adult, I would prefer the titles of games, (Assasin's Creed, COD4 and Forza) played on the XBOX 360 or the PS3, especially the graphics, but the WII surprised me with it's fun games and I overlook the lacked of eye-candy since I'm too busy laughing and having fun. It also helps that I get to spend that much fun with my 6 year old. rjangel 02-10-08, 02:56 PM We bought one for my daughters for Christmas. We were actually away on vacation for Christmas and the condo we stayed at had a 40"ish LCD HDTV. Even with the standard composite connectors it looked and played very well, use of the wrist straps is a MUST. When we got home, they had to use in on our 36 SD TV, we still enjoyed it. We pickup our new Samsung 4665 next weekend, really looking forward to it. Ordered a set of composite cables for it today, expecting that to improve a bit more. The 'controls' are very realistic for most games, especially those on the included Wii sports game disk. Overall, it functions were well and I believe it to be well designed. The built-in wireless network works great as well, actually better than my Dell laptop. Just need to buy a good racing game for the big screen. Any recommendations? Ron bigdee3 02-12-08, 12:53 AM I got the Wii a wiik ago and the family loves it. My son likes tennis, my wife likes bowling, and I like bowling/golf. We've yet to try multiplayer boxing, b/c wii only have one nunchuck. I like the fact that they come with the clear rubber grips, and lockable straps. This is a great family console. Now it's time to plan a Wii party lol. GatorTex 02-14-08, 04:15 PM I just received the Wii as a Christmas gift and I have not been able to put the dang thing down. What an addictive console! Three words.... GUITAR HERO 3! Oh my god, if you have not played this game yet for the Wii, you're missing out. So much fun it's ridiculous. Rose4uKY 03-11-08, 11:33 PM I just got a Wii the other day at Toys R Us, They had gotten 54 in and I scored one. A girl at work told me how much fun it was and I knew nothing about it. I saw a friends kid play guitar hero and loved the songs it was cool. I have no kids so normally I wouldn't of bought this but I had one this shopping spree online so I bought one and I did buy guitar hero but haven't played it yet. Last night for the 1st time I played Bowling which was cool and I played a little gold. I have a new Samsung 40 inch LCD. But it's really fun. I want Dance Revolution they were out of that and I am on a list to get the new Wii Fit. It took me a while to get used to using the remote for bowling and golf. But I got a package deal with extra remote and numchuck and the extra remote had 9 games and I got the Olympics games with it and the new Super Mario Brawl which I am giving to my nephew who has a wii. Plus it came with 20 batteries. But I too got the component video cable. They told me at the store it was an HD cable and then I get it home and see it's component but I kept it and like the wii. Do I need to chage TV settings when playing? I think I might have a game mode not really sure. Rose KoRn 03-11-08, 11:59 PM Make sure in your Wii settings its set to Widescreen and 480p. You should pick up Mario Galaxy. Amazing game. I just got a Wii the other day at Toys R Us, They had gotten 54 in and I scored one. I know nonthing about Wii! I am used to an Atari 2600 LOL!! I grew up on Pin ball and Donkey Kong and Pac Man,Q bert, and Centiepede so this is new to me. But the bolwing was really cool and when I am off this weekend I will open Guitar Hero. I'll check into the galaxy though or see if my nephew has it. I want Dance Revolution and a couple others maybe. What is Carnival ? I need to just google Wii games and check them out. But last night I made my Mii and played around with that for a bit. It said it can travel and I can see others or something. And do I have a Wii e-mail aaddress and can anyone e-mail me or just other Wii e-mail addresses? I'll read more while i am here of other topics about the Wii. But a girl at work has a Wii and I didn't know if we could play games against each other or chat while on our Wii's? Thanks, Rose n8dogggg 03-12-08, 10:25 AM I got the Wii last week from Target. (Soft opening of a store in VA). So I'm a bit disappointed after playing it a few times. Not so much with the system...it's really cool conceptually...but with some of the games. I of course had to get Tiger Woods and Madden to check out the game play with sports. I don't know if I'm just used to playing xbox and playstation, but there is definitely a huge learning curve with this system. It's almost like starting over again. But my biggest issue comes with Dance Dance Revolution. I initially bought this for my wife cause she was excited about it. Then I got excited about it when I got it home. When we try to play it, the feet portion works fine, but the part where you have to shake your hands rarely registers on the wii motion sensors. Is anyone else experiencing this problem. Oh I do love bowling and tennis the most so far!! (using my Optoma HD72 on a 106" screen) Oh and I got the new Mario game that just came out...haven't had a lot of time to play it yet. Rose4uKY 03-12-08, 10:45 AM I love the bowling too it's awesome. They didn't have Dance Revolution when I bought my Wii so I did Guitar Hero and am buying Dance Revolution on Friday when I get paid. A girl I work with has it I'll ask her if she has problems with it and the sensor. My package deal came with Olympics and the new Mario Super Brawl game but I told my nephew who is 13 he could have the super brawl. I want to play bowling again and use my Mii. I think it's a lot of fun.. Rose TonyDP 03-13-08, 01:44 PM This is really more of a Second Impression post. I purchased a Wii shortly after launch in November of 2006, and then sold it a few months later to a friend who was desperately looking for one for his son (no, I didn't gouge him, I just broke even). I kind of regretted getting rid of it however so when I was at Toys 'R Us this weekend and saw I line of people in their videogames section, I sauntered over to one of the salespeople who told me they'd gotten about 100 Wii's and some were still available. I got my ticket and picked up another console, along with a few accessories. First thing I noticed was the big silicon/rubber sleeve that the Wiimote now comes packaged in. It was a welcome surprise as it is very comfortable to hold. The wrist strap seems a little more sturdier than on my first one. I was a little disappointed to see that the row of buttons below the A button are still so small and recessed. Seeking the best image reasonably possible, I connected my Wii via Nintendo's component cables to my Sony Bravia XBR2 52" LCD. While the component cables give me nice color, the sharpness is lacking, no matter how I tweak the settings. It's 480p and it looks adequate, but it doesn't even approach the hi-def, all digital connections of my other consoles. Rather than using the included sensor bar, I picked up Nyko's wireless sensor bar for $20. It seems to work very well as the Wiimote pointer always shows up and tracks nicely. Not having another wire around is easily worth the investment. As for games, I first tried a little Wii Sports again. Graphically, the games are pretty deficient with a really bad case of the jaggies, made even worse by the size of my screen. In spite of that, Wii Golf is still tons of fun and the feel is great. Golf is for my money one of the best uses of the Wiimote and I'll probably be picking up one of the Tiger Woods games before too long. I also picked up Metroid Prime 3. Graphically, the game actually looks pretty good as it supports widescreen and the visuals hide the jaggies most of the time. Learning to move around and look/shoot with the nunchuck/wiimote combo is taking a bit of getting used to, as is getting at some of the smaller buttons on the Wiimote. But it is still all very managable and fun. I'm defininitely looking forward to spending some more time with this game and seeing how far I can progress. Overall, I'm glad I got myself another Wii, if only for the sake of completeness. While nobody will ever mistake its graphics for either a 360 or PS3, it is a fun little console when you feed it the right games. The Nyko wireless sensor bar is a nice addition and going forward, I'll probably pick up their wireless nunchuck attachment as well. oleus 03-13-08, 02:17 PM as fun as the Wii can be with groups, i find myself rarely playing it on my own for several reasons. The main reason is the graphics - even with the component cables, they look really really underwhelming and jaggie-infested on my projection system. Rose4uKY 03-14-08, 12:05 AM I have a 40 inch HD TV and I just checked my setting and it was on 480I not 480P where it said HD. But I want it on 480P right? I changed it but haven't looked played a game again. I think this things is alot of fun and am glad I got one. Trying to figure out all the Mii stuff. A girl from work sent me hers and I sent her mine it was cute how hers just dropped in my plaza.. I used to have Petz for my PC I had the Catz version where you adopt and feed cats and they grow. Someone told me there is a Catz Wii version anyone know anything about it? Rose ZManCartFan 03-14-08, 06:19 AM I have a 40 inch HD TV and I just checked my setting and it was on 480I not 480P where it said HD. But I want it on 480P right? You can only set it for 480p if you are using component cables (the separate red, green, and blue video cables). If you are using the standard composite cable that comes with the Wii, you will be stuck using 480i. There are mixed opinions as to how much difference it makes, but for me it made the picture much clearer and was worth the $20 I spent for the generic cables at Wal-Mart. Someone told me there is a Catz Wii version anyone know anything about it? Rose As far as Catz Wii goes, take a look at the IGN review. I think its different gameplay than what you were hoping for. http://wii.ign.com/articles/851/851717p1.html Rose4uKY 03-15-08, 10:56 PM I am using the component cables so I did change it to 480P. The catz wii game is different then what I thought I read up on it so I didn't buy it. I got dance dance revolution today and my nephew had me get Super Mario party 8 for when he comes over so I did. We tried to play it but I couldn't do it LOL! I want the one that has darts, skiball and airhockey for 25 bucks that I will be able to do. Someone also said Carnival was fun and I picked that one up but may return it not sure yet. Anyway Thanks, Rose memphis87 03-27-08, 05:40 PM I hate my Wii...no pun intended. I was thinking of buying it for my kids and I am getting mixed reviews. Rose4uKY 03-31-08, 11:31 PM I love Carnival and play it all the time. It has pop the balloon with darts. Shoot the water in the clowns mouth to pop the balloon. Basketball shooting football toss, ring toss, dunk the person in the water, knock over the milk bottles and shoot the ducks, Ski ball and lots more. It's fun! I like it a lot. I also played some of the Wii Play games the other night and had a blast. I like this one where you pop the bubbles.. I wasn't good at DDR yet I don't really understand how to do it yet but I'll learn. I loved Tennis played it for a while the other night and Pinball is the only one I haven't played yet.. Oh and I haven't done boxing but I don't care for that.. mlieggi 04-11-08, 02:30 PM I love Carnival and play it all the time. It has pop the balloon with darts. Oh and I haven't done boxing but I don't care for that.. Looks like I am going to have to try it. I saw it on sale at Target for $20.00 and decided against buying. Went back a week later to buy it and it was up to $35.00. I hate when that happens. I wound up buying "Game Party" which was on sale for $20.00 and is pretty cool. It has darts, ski ball and cups. Turns out, I play just as well at cups on Wii as I do in real life. Rose4uKY 04-12-08, 12:29 PM I have Game Party to it's fun.. I like it. I love the games that came with the extra remote the Wii Play. I played several and then quit when I got to Pool cause I was suckin at it but then I was told you have to finish each game to unlock the next one. The bubble game on there was one of my favorites.. I haven't played my Wii all week tomorrow I want to play it for a while though.. Tennis is cool too. I was just playing bowling alot at 1st but now I love tennis and I tried golf not very good at it and Baseball I can pitch but never could bat LOL!! But it's all so much fun.. I am glad I got one.. rwt2006 04-23-08, 12:38 PM My first impression of the Wii was... They better have some really good Star Wars games comming out if they are going to give me a controller that looks like a lightsaber hilt. mrphilby 04-23-08, 04:08 PM check out No More Heroes to hold you over until September when the next Star Wars is going to be released...NMH isn't a star wars game, but you do have a "laser katana" or something that's basically a lightsaber. I haven't actually played the game yet (just got my wii a week ago) but it got great reviews and most people who've played it liked it alot. My first impression of the Wii was... They better have some really good Star Wars games comming out if they are going to give me a controller that looks like a lightsaber hilt. ThisOneKidMongo 04-23-08, 04:39 PM NMH also makes some fun Star Wars references throughout. Besides the fact that you are, y'know, using a lightsaber. jwebb1970 04-24-08, 12:16 PM My first impression of the Wii was... They better have some really good Star Wars games comming out if they are going to give me a controller that looks like a lightsaber hilt. You aren't alone. When many of us first saw what would become the "Wii-mote" & how it operated, I think "lightsaber" popped into most heads right away. True about NMH. Great game for "serious" gamers & you get some faux-saber action until Sept. when FORCE UNLEASHED hits all platforms. G4TV/X-Play's 5 star review of NMH was spot-on. One of, if not the best, mature title for Wii right now. Saw some video on FORCE for the Wii. Looks like the Wiimote as saber will be much more involved than it is on NMH (NMH = still mostly A button pushes w/ Wiimote motions used for cetain moves). From what I saw in the preview stuff, the Wii edition will have players using the Wiimote for essentially ALL saber stuff, & the nunchuck will move your player via analog stick & nunchuck motions will govern your non-saber Force powers (grab, throw, choke, etc). Looks pretty cool & the developers interviewed seemed most stoked about the Wii edition over the others. My guess is that the Wiimote's rumble & speaker functions will also get well exploited in FORCE....and will likely eats lots of battery power in the process!! :D At this point, pretty much a blind buy for me in Sept. Plus, it looks like it could help Nintendo shake the stigma that the Wii "can't/doesn't" have games that "hardcore" players are looking for or 3rd party developers can't deliver the serious goods for Wii. elasticcow 05-21-08, 01:25 PM I am probably in the minority on this one, but as fun as wii sports, Zelda and Mario Galaxy are, SSX blur is my favorite game that I have right now. If you have a FP setup, this game is such a blast. Once you get past the first hour or so of frustration and can start to do uber tricks, you will be hooked. Once you get the controls down, it is such a rush getting huge air, pulling insane tricks and going down the mountain a thousand miles an hour. Atleast give it a rent and give yourself atleast an hour as the controls can be frustrating, but once you get them down it is so much fun! I like SSX for what it is, but in my opinion, We Ski is much more fun at being skiing sim that doesn't force you to do thing that you don't want to do. SSX barely allows you to ski in some cases, your just flying through the air performing way too many tricks for my taste. You can't just SKI, which is what We Ski brings to the table. I also don't care for the unrealistic speed of SSX and the weather...cough...FOG...that prevents you from see that far ahead is very annoying. In We Ski you can see the runs on the other side of mountain when you are skiing down, which adds to the realism. We Ski is just a different animal and I love it as well. I certainly recommend it as a buy. It has clocked more time on my Wii than Galaxy/Brawl/Kart already and we've only had it a week. Zygon 05-22-08, 04:28 PM I love the interface, wiimote(speaker in remote is way cool), and online downloads. But going from my 360 and PS3 to a console displaying 480i is a buzz kill. I have the component cables on order, so hopefully that will enhance my viewing experience. I'm also looking into a receiver that will upconvert to 720p. The games I've played so far: Super Mario Galaxy, Wii sports, Smooth moves, and wii play. (all loads of fun) jwebb1970 05-22-08, 05:15 PM I love the interface, wiimote(speaker in remote is way cool), and online downloads. (all loads of fun) While it won't work magic on the images, component will improve the sharpness/detail/color fairly substantially (and allow for a 480p signal). Will, OTOH, accentuate the jaggies of some titles as well. Biggest positive improvement I saw btwn composite & component was with Mario Galaxy (hands down the prettiest Wii title to date) I'd say Mario Kart is a for sure buy for any Wii owner, and unless it's manic nature is just too much to handle, Smash Bros Brawl is a hell of a lot of fun. Since you also use 360/PS3 I assume it would not be too manic for you. Metroid Prime 3 is a great FPS for Wii & No More Heroes is a lot of "mature" fun as well. A fun & sometimes comical title that sort of makes up for Wii's lack of GTA. Guitar Hero 3 Wii was my 1st GH experience & really love that one, too. The Wiimote spkr is cool, too. Adds a certain "surround sound" element to several games & gets used as "cell phone" to receive misson updates/advice in NO MORE HEROES. Jacob305 05-27-08, 05:50 PM I picked up the wii system this morning from target. that was the good news.. bad news is that I have to wait until after I am done with work.. to hook it up. Jacob dogmanky 06-24-08, 10:52 PM We bought our 6 yr old a wii for his birthday... now I'm offically addicted to wii bowling and I think I have tendonitus in my shoulder and rotator cuff. lol. I must have bowled 20 games this past weekend. Amazing !! is about all I can say. :D ThisOneKidMongo 06-25-08, 08:27 AM Ah, the famous "Wii Elbow." I know it well. Once I had to rubber-stamp something at work shortly after getting the Wii, and found I couldn't lift my arm. I figure that made me the coolest man alive. goheat 06-25-08, 09:14 AM I got "Wii Shoulder" after my first tries at Wii Sports Boxing, because I overdid it! djearl81 06-26-08, 03:43 PM I got my Wii in early June. My wife and I are having a blast playing the games. We're hooked on Mario Kart. BusterBluth 07-21-08, 01:47 AM Got a Wii in May, picked up super monkey ball banana blitz cuz it was cheap and had decent reviews.. I can't really picture playing that game using normal controls now.. tough game too once you unlock the bonus worlds. Delving into RE4 now, put in about 7 hours so far... great game, controls work seamlessly, very small learning curve until you get it down pat.. very fun to play through so far. Overall I'm pretty happy with the Wii, only thing I don't like is the Nintendo is killing us with all these add-ons, and now with the introduction of the Wii motion plus to make the controller operate how it was intended (shouldn't have that have happened at launch?) that's another add-on to consider.. Games library isn't great outside of the usual stellar first-party titles, but still more than enough good games available to play. jwebb1970 07-21-08, 12:21 PM Got a Wii in May, picked up super monkey ball banana blitz cuz it was cheap and had decent reviews.. First off...always nice to see an Arrested Development fan here (based on your screen name). As to the Wiimotion Plus....agree that it should have been part of the Wiimote since day 1, but wonder if it took until now to get such a thing affordable (price point being a big issue for Nintendo this gen) & will only truly work on titles set up for it. Doesn't sound like it'll improve upon existing games. At least the 1st title to see WiiMotion Plus in action - WiiSports:Resort - will have one add-on in the box. Do agree that Wii actually does have many great titles--more than some like to mention-- & most are 1st party. Despite Nintendo's less than stellar E3 presence this year, I do think that Q4 2008 & 2009 might end up seeing Wii 3rd party stuff get a lot better - both via exclusive titles (stuff like MadWorld, Conduit, Deadly Creatures, Clone Wars:Lightsaber Duels) & cross-platformers (GuitarHero:WorldTour, with it's online/DLC content identical to the 360/PS3 editions & the upcoming Dead Rising-once only found on 360). Big Wes 07-23-08, 07:46 AM I picked up my Wii a couple of weeks ago and it is a fun little system. Wii Sports is as fun and addicting as it's reputation, and the bowling game is definately a big hit when we have friends and family over. I've been playing SSBB--it's awesome, don't get me wrong, but not really that huge of a leap forward from Melee. I'm finishing some Gamecube games that I picked up from Game Stop over the past few months. Rogue Squadron II and III and Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2. I might even get around to finishing Metroid Prime 2. Progressive scan rocks! Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase and I can't wait to pick up some new games, like Mega Man 9 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. guyutemsg 07-23-08, 08:32 AM OK I am finally a Wii owner! Got one this Monday at a local Game Crazy. I actually scored a Wii Fit this morning for actual retail price at CC.com! I am totally fired up for that. First impression, the graphics are soft even at 480p but who cares! The gameplay is very fun and addictive. My wife even will play golf. Amazing. I am looking forward to getting some games now. Thinking Warioware, Galaxy, RE4. Any MUST owns? Is Zack and Wiki REALLY that good? My wife loves puzzle games ... So I LOVE my purchase on first impression. I like the clean, white console with the soft blue glow, the soft sounds. Very surreal and virtual. I haven't been playing my 360 that much lately so it was time to join the bandwagon. Any good full version bowling or golf games? (I LOVE Mario tennis and golf on my GBA ... any games like that would be sweet!) I am excited for Mario Sluggers. That looks great. ThisOneKidMongo 07-23-08, 09:26 AM I'm finishing some Gamecube games that I picked up from Game Stop over the past few months...Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2.I like the cut of your jib. Big Wes 07-23-08, 10:26 AM I like the cut of your jib. Those are awesome games! I don't know how they slipped past me before, but I'm really enjoying them and I'm so glad that I picked them up. My wife is dismayed, however, that "Henshin a go go, baby!" is now the catchphrase du jour. ThisOneKidMongo 07-23-08, 10:31 AM Agreed! The difficulty and learning curve is just old-school perfect. Many of the bosses seem insanely difficult at first, but after banging your head against a wall enough times, soon enough you start to see the pattern, and you can beat most of them without taking a hit. JJJschmitt 09-14-08, 12:00 AM Well, I know I'm tell everyone what they already know but I just got one tonight. And It's awesome. I'm exhausted and sore and have to get up early. But I look forward to combing this and other thread for tasty tidbits of info in the weeks to come. SlaughterX 10-17-08, 09:47 PM I finally bought one a few days ago. I intend on selling it before Christmas, but I figured this would be a good chance to play the few games I was interested in playing while still being able to turn a profit in the future. I had already bought No More Heroes when it first went on sale for $30, so that's what I'm playing through now. I just moved up to rank 7 and so far I have to say the game is pretty disappointing (when will I learn with Suda 51?). The fighting is rather bland, the overworld absolutely sucks. I mean there is no reason it should look worse than what the Dreamcast could do with Crazy Taxi. The boss fights are supposed to be the meat and potatoes of the game, but even though have all underwhelmed me so far. I wasn't expecting much with the Wii, but when the game I was looking forward to playing most on the system seems so mediocre so far I can't help but feel that the Wii couldn't meet my already low expectations for it. Hopefully it (NMH) will get better as time goes on, but I look forward to playing SMG next... Zoo 11-22-08, 06:09 PM Well, I am very late to the party... Friend of ours have had a Wii pretty much since launch. I "got it" right away and loved how the Wii is just so easy to just play for shorter periods of time. I am an old school gamer (had Pong, 2600, NES, Genesis, PS1, PS2)... The Wii is fun for quick diversions and yet there are games like Twilight Princess that you can invest dozens of hours into. So far I have Wii Sports, Wii Play, Zack & Wiki, and Trauma centre... I got a great deal on a used Wii with tons of peripherals and the previous owners had been busy snagging VC games. Now I have gone crazy as well and am reliving my NES days as well as trying out classics from consoles I had never owned. Then I found a nice deal on a used Wavebird so I snagged Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and Pikmin, all for $35! It was a buy 2 and get the 3'rd free deal. Honestly, with so many great classics from systems gone by and full Gamecube BC I can never imagine getting bored of this system. Yes, not having 720p is a bit of a bummer. The fun gameplay more than makes up for it though. My brother-in-law is autistic and he loves the bowling. Now my mother-in-law got a Wii for him and all of us played bowling at their place last weekend. The Wii has really bridged the divide between gamers and casual gamers, and age demographics. Now they need some more killer apps for the "hardcore" gamers. Some mature rated games like a G.T.A. and some killer RPGs and FPS would be a start. The final piece of the puzzle will be when my Monoprice component cables come in. Even as it is though the graphics aren't that bad on my 50" Grand Wega. My only gripe with the system now is the lack of internal memory. I have a 2 Gig SD card in the system; but I have had to offload things onto the card already as I ran out of room. WiiWare games and N64 games take up lots of space. Nintendo is missing out on my $ as I am holding off buying more VC and WiiWare content until I can stream all my games off of both the internal memory and SD card. Oh... World Of Goo is awesome and Tetris is pretty fun as well. BASHERS33 12-01-08, 02:08 PM This is interesting. On yahoo.com in their top 10 searches area #4 is nintendo wii games. (no other console is in that llist). gmoney80 12-14-08, 02:04 PM If anyone looking for a wii they are in stock at amazon sold by amazon, here is the link you better be fast http://www.amazon.com/Wii-nintendo/dp/B0009VXBAQ/ref=sr_tr_bbs_sr_1?tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1229253998&sr=8-1 ckramer 12-15-08, 01:04 PM If anyone looking for a wii they are in stock at amazon sold by amazon, here is the link you better be fast http://www.amazon.com/Wii-nintendo/dp/B0009VXBAQ/ref=sr_tr_bbs_sr_1?tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1229253998&sr=8-1 I saw the availability there yesterday and was able to pick one up for $249.99, new direct from Amazon. They are still a hot console. I'll be looking forward to christmas night to be playing and cking it out. I got here Wii play that came with an extra Wii mote and I got her an extra nunchuck...anything else I need to get started? jwebb1970 12-16-08, 02:30 PM I had been shopping on craigslist for a Wii for my 9 yr old daughter, when I went into a gamestop and they had 2 of them, while I was buying one someone else came in and got the other. If you plan on adding more than 2 players ever, another Wiimote/'Chuck would be decent (Wii will handle up to 4). As to other accessories - well, the Wii is literally innundated with add ons - mostly 3rd party stuff & mostly useless! Any "necessary" add-ons - like the Wii Wheel, Balance Board, Wii Speak mic - those come with Nintendo games. BASHERS33 12-21-08, 06:22 PM http://shopping.yahoo.com/seasonals/holidays/top-10-products-of-2008--784724867 All these other gamers make fun of the Wii and how "inferiror" it is to the other video game systems and a lot of people bash Sony tvs. Yet on that list of top products for 2008 the Wii is #2 and 2 of the others are sony HDTVs. :) Meanwhile no xbox360, ps3, samsung tvs, etc... anywhere to be found. ThisOneKidMongo 12-21-08, 06:40 PM Yeah, take that, everyone on the Internet who's ever disagreed with Basher about what electronics are superiror. This random list of hot holiday products he found that happens to feature a couple of items he likes proves that everybody who doesn't like those items is stupid and wrong. How is that a "Wii first impression"? BASHERS33 12-21-08, 08:22 PM Oh ok simply look at sales figures then rather than my "random list". The Wii has almost outsold sony and microsoft COMBINED. ThisOneKidMongo 12-22-08, 08:02 AM It's common knowledge that the Wii is the sales leader of this generation by a huge margin. But sales are just sales--they prove something sold a lot, and nothing more. By your logic, you must have LOVED Beverly Hills Chihuahua, since it must have been one of the best movies ever as it was #1 at the box office for a while. Hell, I'm on your side. I think the Wii's the best console this gen. Its games, price, and even philosophy appeal the most to me. Can't you just like the damn thing for your own reasons, instead of needing to somehow "prove" it's the best? Implying that the Wii is objectively superior due to its sales figures, presence on a "Hot Holiday Gifts '08!!!" list or ranking on a second-rate search engine is embarrassing and ridiculous. jwebb1970 12-22-08, 09:25 AM It's common knowledge that the Wii is the sales leader of this generation by a huge margin. Not sure how long they lasted, though. number1laing 12-23-08, 01:08 PM I have seen several different stores, including one in a mall not last Saturday but the Saturday before, with Wiis in stock. They're not "go to random store and pick one up" easy to find, but its nothing compared to last year or the year before. heyheyhey 05-05-09, 01:10 AM Amazon still has them stock, i've just ordered one. Over the last couple of months, just about every retailer that I have visited that would have a Wii in stock has them. Costco sells the std Wii bundle (local one has a ton of them) for $244.99. Wii Fit, OTOH, appears to still be hit or miss locally. BASHERS33 05-08-09, 01:19 AM This post isn't worth making a thread for and I don't know where to post it, but just felt like posting that I was juggling my remote control to my tv and slammed it into the tv yet still haven;t hit the tv with my wiimote. lol itsbobtista 06-30-09, 08:20 PM The Wii is a fun system. I enjoyed it. mercoal 12-03-09, 10:35 AM Wife was looking for the Wii Fit Plus (and balance board) to make working out a little more fun, plus I got the Sports Resort game as well. I will try to post some thoughts about this soon. Got some good deals from Amazon and free shipping. tns09 12-04-09, 10:09 PM The wife picked one up on Black Friday from Toys R US. Got the Mario Game free with it. it is my daughters Christmas gift. looking forward to playing with it on Christmas morning. johnathanwinter 12-15-09, 11:50 AM the wife wanted the wii, with wii fit plus and ea active, the wii is cool. bowling and pool are fun. wii fit and ea active are not fun in my book. both of those games are evil and are trying to kill me slowly. im on day 3 with ea active and its a rest day, thank the creator. My wife laughs at me every time i do the workout and then laughs some more at me when i try to walk down the stairs after. tns09 12-31-09, 10:14 PM We are having a blast with our Wii so far. We have Super Mario( daughter loves it), Mario and Sonic at Olympic Games( too hard for me and almost too hard for my daughter), Wii Play( most of the games are kind of fun ), my daughter got a game called Nights Journey of Dreams( kind of a strange game to me but good graphics and game play, my daughter is fascinated by it) and of course the Wii sports that came with it( love the bowling, my daughter loves the boxing). All I need is Sports Resort and Wii Fit plus and I will be satisfied. Gotta save up some cash and hope they go on sale soon. |
