View Full Version : I am a proud owner of a velodyne DPS-10 comments from others with this sub?
louthewiz 11-19-06, 01:33 AM I just wanted to ask an honest opinion on this sub that I have had for the past 2 years and it always impressed me with it's tight bass and room shaking sound ,
so anyone else here have this same sub?
And I also have a klipsch KSW-10 that I use for mids above 100hz which also enhances the bass in my living room.
It currently serves as the living room sub where no critical listening ever happens. It used to serve duty as my main sub in the den but now i've moved on. For its size it sure does pack a punch ;)
screxer 11-19-06, 02:04 AM I had one for a while. Great little sub, but didn't have the impact down low that I was looking for. My brother now has it and loves it. I've since moved on to a larger sub that fits the bill for me. If you're happy with DPS-10 that's all that matters. I was quite happy with mine as it was a good upgrade from a Polk Audio PSW12
Ron Temple 11-19-06, 02:20 AM I've always liked this sub. Hits hard and trys to do more than it's capable of down low. Great for music and HT vs. it's retail competitors.
dhoganjr 11-19-06, 09:15 AM I've been enjoying this sub as well. I'm continually amazed, especially given what I paid for it.
I'm also getting a little tired of hearing people tell me and other DPS-10/12 owners that we could have done much better for the price. I only buy what I can personally audition and compare. If I can't listen to it, I don't buy it.
louthewiz 11-19-06, 03:15 PM When I first came accross it it was on sale for $199.99 and I just loved the way it sounded so I said it's coming home with me,
and ever since then it has been hitting hard in my HT........
For those interested, I wrote a little review on it here (http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/home-audio-subwoofers/645-velodyne-dps-10-subjective-semi-objective-review.html) with some in-room measurements before and after equalization. It proved to be a monster after equalization going below its published spec of 28hz, and yes this is a refurbished item ;)

Man Im sure glad there are people like you on the forums. I need to be able to buy something and return it at an instant if I dont like it unlike shipping(takes a week) sending it back(another week) replacing it(another week) After that I wasted a month when I could have done that in a few days with a local purchase.
dhoganjr 01-18-07, 06:31 AM David,
FYI, I went over to the blue side, dark side, whatever you want to call it. It all started shortly after I posted that when I heard a friend's new SVS 25-31 PC-Plus.
I'm glad I was able to listen, otherwise I don't think I would have ever ended up with my SVS 20-39 PC-Plus. Granted it's more than double the cost of the DPS-10, but it has, in MY opinion, at least 3 times the performance.
However, the new sub made me realize that the DPS-10, in my room, really is a pretty good sub. I ended up selling it to a co-worker for less than the CC price, but double what I paid for it on ebay (he's a true a hole so I really didn't mind).
Anyway, I don't regret the DPS-10 and I still stick to my practice of only buying what I can listen to.

Is $200 on ebay a good deal for the DPS 10?
Ron Temple 01-18-07, 03:26 PM Is $200 on ebay a good deal for the DPS 10?Yes...the sub still sells in most retail outlets around MSRP @ $460. If you're going to spend $460 get the SVS PB10 or Hsu equivalent, but for $200 you are getting an outstanding sub.
