Well I saw it tonite, not one of Jack Black's better efforts ,unfortunately.

The movie has its moments, but really, the trailer is the best part of the flick.

When your ready to rent "Tenacious D: The Pick Of Destiny", rent the "School Of Rock" again, instead :D

Jack Black has to be the most overrated actor in history. He's been terrible in everything that he stars in.

He was great in High Fidelity (but of course, he wasn't really the star). I also thought he was fine in King Kong. He and KG were brilliant in the original Tenacious D shorts on HBO which is why I hope I like the movie more than John did! School Of Rock is one I find overrated- I chuckled and that's about it. And Nacho Libre just didn't work.

Jack Black just needs a script, preferably one he didnt write himself. I had high expectations for this movie since Tenacious D has been together as a band for almost 5 years, and with all that time, I figured they would have some REALLY good material by now.

In fairness, the actual Tenacious D music was pretty good! (for parody music).

He's played some great character parts. He's just not been suitable for most of the lead roles he's attempted (with one exception being School of Rock IMO).
He outright stole the show in Orange County.

Black is just another no talent hack being forced on us by people who think they know better than us what we want.

I never cease to be amazed at how badly people misunderstand Hollywood. These people spend more time figuring out EXACTLY what people want then you will know in your life, if you never slept from now until you died and dedicated 24 hours a day to to it. This is why so many movies are cliched and have the required love interest and the required happy ending and so forth. To the degree that they actually allow some people to take a chance and do something off the beaten path is the degree to which they are NOT feeding us what they know perfectly well we like.

Agreed, and theres so many different facets to Hollywood, its not a conspiracy, its more like Chaos :D

I consider Jack Black to be part of kind of a new cinema movement in Hollywood, that includes directors like Kevin Smith, and several of the best 30-something actors are somewhat involved, including Matt Daemon and believe it or not, Ben Affleck.

These guys do a little of everything: they act. they write scripts, some of them play music, they do spontaneous roles at times, and I generally get a good vibe from their works.

Movie was goofy fun. The Sound was fantastic. Used the DTS-ES and it was very enjoyable. Replayed a few scenes in DD-EX and no complaints.

Good goofy movie fun with lots of use of the F-word.

Have to say Jack Black in some ways is under-rated.

I liked this movie. While it wasn't the greatest film I've ever seen, at least it was original and had some good cameo's. The DTS-ES track is awesome. Definitely one of those dvd's you got to crank up for certain scenes. The opening number and the rock off at the end would both be great DTS demo scenes... Providing your Demo disc was chocked full of R rated movies and no kids were present during viewing. ;)

I also got a kick out of their THX spoof just before the movie started. Excellent surround effects there as well.
