If I can make a recommendation. As a newcomer to this thread, start adding people from the end of the thread working your way back in time. It will make your friends people that have at least visited recently!

It's also nice to still see this thread used a year and a half later. :)

I remember we had an Xbox Gamertag thread that worked really well at one point. I think it's time for a Wii one. So far, the only thing that trading Wii Numbers lets you do is allow your Miis to mingle with friend's Miis, and send messages back and forth through the Message Board. But damn, I want to see my Mii Plaza full, and I want different characters in my Wii sports teams and crowds!

For those not familiar, you find your personal Wii Number in your Address Book. You can get there by hitting Wii Message Board on the Wii Channels page, then click Create Message. You'll see your Address Book on the righthand side. Your Wii Number should be a 16 digit number formated as XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Bring that back here and post it! This alone will allow messages to be sent once WiiConnect24 is on, you add someone's Number, and you add theirs.

Second step, turn on WiiConnect24! In order for this to work, your Wii needs to be on the internet. Setting up your wireless connection is far outside of the scope of this post, but if you were able to do the two updates that were available the day you bought your Wii, then you are good to go. From your Wii Channels page, hit Wii Options button in the bottom-left corner and go to Wii Settings. Scroll to the second page and hit WiiConnect24. The two important things that need to be done for Mii mingling and the Wii Numbers to mean anything are that WiiConnect24 and Standby Connection both need to be turned on. Slot Illumination is also related, but is a preferrence thing. The slot will glow when your Wii has something to tell you (even when in standby) like you have a new message from one of your Wii Friends.

Last step, turn on mingling! From the Wii Channels page go into your Mii channel and hit the Mii Parade button. You'll probably be told that nobody is arround. Then hit the Travel Settings button and allow traveling. One last thing. On the first page of your Mii editor for each Mii you have is a Mingle button. Turn it on the allow that Mii to mingle.

Gai came up with an excellent idea. When posting your Wii Number, also post your preferred name for other people's address books and the name of the Mii that represents you. The address book name needs to be 10 characters or less, and preferrably be related to your AVS username.

Also, according to HoodedSoldier, there is a way to force your Mii to go to other people's systems. More info to follow...

Ones that are now just getting the system, myself included, are just posting their Wii's number. As you know, mingling only works if two people add each others system numbers to the address book.

My recommendation is to edit your original post to say that anyone who wants mingling Mii's to:

-subscribe to this thread with email notification
-add addresses from this thread to their Wii's address book
-post which addresses (with AVS names!) they added, and post their own Wii's address. If their AVS name and personal Mii's name are different, they should probably post that info too.

That way if we get an email notification that a new person has submitted their Wii address, we can look to see if they added us to their address book and are waiting for us to do the same.

You might also want to post that if someone's address book is filling up (like your own), that person should probably edit their post to remove their system from being added to others.

What do you think... does that make sense?

what mingling etiquette should we follow guys? allow all our Miis to mingle, or just the ones that represent players in the household? personally this early in the game, i'm all for every Mii mingling. when more people have Miis, the plaza will start getting really crowded though. hmm... allowing everyone to mingle does allow everyone a larger variety from which to pick the cool ones though. what yall think? :)

I've had a friend of mine added since sunday, and we can message eachother etc fine. I also played with doing emails. The cool thing is if you send an email to someone... it shows up as w[wii number]@nintendo.com so you actually get a free email address out of this haha.

I haven't tried sms. sounds interesting though.


adding these numbers is tedious. I wish nintendo would add an interface to their website or something... just some easier way of getting the info to your wii.

Okay everyone! The first post of this thread just got twice as long. I added alot more detailed instructions for getting this to work right. Even added a new section about turning on WiiConnect24. I might guess that that is why we arent seeing as many Miis travel around as one might expect. I would recommend that everyone go back and read the first post again to see if you missed anything, and also to let me know if I have missed anything. :)

I'm gonna follow this up with another post to try to answer everyone's questions and to ask the couple I have floating around.

mcmush - yeah, looks like Miis automatically travel around to other consoles that are your Wii Friends. it doesnt seem to matter if both machines are being used at the same time, it just matters if WiiConnect24 is enabled. my guess is that while sleeping, the Wii randomly polls your friend's Wiis for messages and the Nintendo email server for non-Wii email.

CieJe - you're a confirmed friend on my Wii now. odd that it took longer than the others i added at the same time. i've played with the email part a little bit messaging a friend, but i need to email myself to see what the full proccess is like. it would be pretty cool to be anywhere and log into my Hotmail account to send my Wii a message :)

thebigkahuna - so would you like us to add you as bigkahuna or Wildwood in our address books? personally i added you as bigkahuna since it makes it easier to associate with this thread, and "the" doesnt fit in the 10 characters allowed.

Hooded - how did you force send your Mii to me? i'd like to add that info to the first post. i noticed when i popped open my Mii Channel today, your Mii just jumped into my Plaza. a couple other people seem to have updated their Miis, and the updated version automatically dropped in. cool that updates seem to be automatic.

Krist - the LordJames part is awesome, best shortening i can thing of for 10 letters. i dont know yet about the Mii part. from what i can gather, that is where you drop in the Mii that represents that person from your Mii Plaza once said persons Mii has Traveled to you. ideally, one should end up with 100 contacts and 100 Miis in your Plaza to match them. sans the appropriate number that play on your Mii at home of course. i'm aiming for like 75 friends to leave a quarter of my available amount for playing around and letting people make Miis when they come over.

misc - SMS messaging to cellphones doesnt seem to be up and running yet. i might be crazy, but the only contact info i have found out how to enter is Wii Numbers and email addresses.

I hope I did it right. I added Wiis by adding the #s. Then, I picked a nickname which was you're AVS user in most cases at least as many characters as it would allow. I skipped the "assign a Mii". In each case it said, it will work when that person adds me.

When I go to the parade, it says, "you didn't add any friends". I guess it says that because noone added my yet, right?

I enable mingling and Wii24 connect too (whatever it's called).

Yeah it's weird. I have a couple of friends whom I can't seem to connect with. Their names are still greyed out in my address book even after we re-added each other.

Of all the people I added so far, I believe only like 4 or 5 of them have showed up as bold and connected Wiis.

Hey, does anyone know how to send someone back to the Mii parade, if you've brought them to your plaza or how to send myself to the parade for that matter?

And, how do some of your Miis wind up at the parade and others in the plaza?

If you send it through the Mii Plaza using the Wii Friend button, I think that's when it sends them directly to the Plaza. If they just are randomly sent over WiiConnect24, then they go to the parade.

Hey thanks for the add, a great way to make new friends. I just finished playing with my wii (hope the girlfriend doesn't find out... lol) and have yet to recieve a mii notice... I'll go back and add everyone as you did jhoff80....

One last question: if I get another person's Miis on my console through WiiConnect24, will those Miis then wander to a different person's console?

I did add you but you are still gray in my address book. All my miis are all set to mingle, too. I still haven't figured out exactly how this works. I thought that if all miis were set to mingle then would eventually show up in everyone's parade (as long as you swapped wii numbers).

I was gray due to user error, user being me. I had your name but had your console Number confused with someone elses.....I made a word doc with everything on it and then sat down in front of the tv late late last night, so I guess I made a few mistakes along the way. Should be black now and I'll send a mii or two your way as soon as it is. :)

Everyone else! By the way, most of the Mii's I've created are set to mingle, I hope lots of people are setting all of theirs to mingle as well, I'd love to have a super hectic parade every time I turned on my system. I can't imagine havy too many Wii's there. Anyone else agree? Let's mingle! I'll be interested to see how long until someone asks who the bald dude with a strange-ish name is wandering in their parade, and I'll answer that he's my dad and that he looks exactly like his Mii.

I agree, the parade takes way too long to get a lot of people in it, I get only one or two people per day.

soon enough, you will all have more Miis than you know what to do with! being the one that started this thread, i've been doing this for about 2 and a half weeks now. it took about a week for it to pick up, but now i have ~100 Miis between the Plaza and Parade. my Plaza hit 50 last night, and the Parade is at 48 last i saw.

just give it a little time to propagate. :)

I added everyone to this point and will sit for a few days to see who remains grayed out but I am also thinking along the lines of our darklordjames of cutting things off at half the address book but we shall see. Hopefully future updates by Nintendo will add some ease of use to Mii's... like being able to send someone a request to add and having them be able to choose to do so or not.

Okay, just an update, I've added everyone so far, but please, if you haven't posted yet, don't add me. I have 18 full pages and I want to leave a little space.

i hope you've figured it out, but if not I think you're adding the right option, you want to add things using the link on the left (i know, very specific, but one acts like a normal contact address book where you would put your grandma and your aunts and one is specifically for wii console numbers)

have fun, it should take about 2 hours at least to get the list done. you might want to leave off the people who were posted as being gray a few posts back, minus dr. elusive, he appears to have added everyone now.

When you go to the Address Book and want to register you need to register the Wii console number not the email address. If we have already registered you all is good and Wii should sync up!

I have been keeping tabs on this thread, and others like it, what it comes down for me is what's the point. In another forum, I have been diligent in adding Wii's but my success rate is ony .1%, I have inputed 20 names and only 2 have bothered to add the codes. This is after two weeks, most of the names were after mine, in fact they set up a special website just for Wii codes, and still only 2 out of 20 people have added codes.

Another annoying part is once you delete some Wii codes, your address book is left spotty. For instance if you delete say 2 pages those pages will remain empty until you fill them up. Does anyone know of a way to sort the address book once you have deleted someone? I have like 5 pages of codes only 2 email addresses on the first page, and then I have some addresses on like page 4 and between these it's empty. I would be more than happy to add more codes if I absoulty knew that people were going to add me, but from what I have seen so far in other forums it's not going to happen.

So to test my theory I will post my code along with my gmail address, so please do me the favor if you add me to your Wii just email me to inform me you did then I will add you. I would also say the same for pm's if you pm me or invite or whatever I will add you. I even have the nice list that girly wrote, but have not inputed it yet. I like to share Mii's but I get tired of adding people and not having the favor done in return. I will post my results and tell you the outcome.

I thought if you had a typo, the registry will know? That has happened to me a couple times because I put in the wrong number.

So weird. I added a bunch of people over 5 pages long and I haven't seen anyone not gray yet.

A couple reasons for this:

-it takes a while for names to turn black... sometimes over an hour or more.

- the Wii you added to your address book has to be connected to the internet. Someone I knew who had added me was gray for days. When I told him this, he said he took his Wii over to his girlfriend's apartment and there's no wireless there. Funny thing was, he finally showed up black one day without him taking it home - he said on certain occasions she'll get a low-signal Wi-fi from a neighbor.

-lastly, and most likely... does the person you added know you added them? Remember that you must be in that person's address book and he/she must be in yours before it turns black. You might want to post which people you put in your address book so they know to add you to theirs.

No, just for messages. If someone sends you a Mii, as soon as you go to your plaza the Mii will bounce in.

Also, remember that this thread needs both your console number and the people you are adding to your address book as John did. If you just post your own console number you probably won't get many addresses to turn black.

I've noticed that it can take a couple of days for Miis to show up. Make sure you are looking at the "Mii Parade", not just the normal Mii plaza.

I would bet that only few of those names are going to turn black on you. I recommend picking a few active posters and putting their numbers in... then post who they were in this thread.

Something funny I'm observing.

I only have 3 people in my address book and they are ALL GRAY. They were black at one point. Yet I keep seeing new Miis in the parade and I have all 34 of them now moved to my plaza.

Perhaps you dont have to add everyone to get their Miis. I think what happens is if the person you added is adding others, those Miis will show up - but only if they moved it to their plaza, away from the parade.
