View Full Version : Eureka LX350HD and NAS
calvin_hobbes 11-25-06, 01:06 AM All,
From what all i have read about Eureka's new LX350HD, it does seem to hold a lot of credibility when it comes to HD playback, however, it does not seem to support NAS. Is that true? (apologies if this sounds like a stupid question, but i was just trying to weight pros/cons of LX350HD v/s Tvix M-5000A)
thnkx..
clasami 11-26-06, 04:53 AM It supports NDAS, which allows you to map the built in HD in Windows (note: not other HD attached through USB). The box itself can access other drives in the network over LAN/WLAN. NDAS, however, is very slow since it is implemented on the device as a software solution. So it is only useful to transfer very little data. for large amounts of data, the device should be attached to a PC using USB.

Does this mean that I can access the built in HD from another computer on the network? If so, could you explain how? I'd really like to be able to move files over the network into the Eureka if possible ... something I have assumed was NOT possible currently. I do not care about speed and its fine if a dvd worth of data takes a whole night.
I have the firmware version 1.29 (which I think is the latest) and I can see my shared network drives from the Eureka. However the drive that is installed in the Eureka is not visible from elsewhere on the network. If I plug in the Eureka into an USB port then the built in HD appears as an external drive but then the functionality of the LX350HD is lost.
In other words, my understanding has been that there is NO way to get data in and out of the built in HD via ethernet (or wifi). I'd love to learn that I was wrong ... :)
Intrigued by the possibility of NDAS, I did some additional searching. There is a new pdf file on the globalzio site (http://www.globalzio.com/download_file.asp?no=60&file=3) which lists the NDAS feature starting on page 60. It refers to an installation CD (none came with my unit) and also claims that the software can be downloaded from the globalzio site (on page 63), but I could not find it anywhere.
Installing as an NDAS requires some info from the unit (NDAS device id : see Page 65). I opened my unit to search for this and found no such info there. The new unit is now labelled LX350HD-N ... so the older ones that many of us bought (LX350HD) will NOT have this feature. What a bummer! :(
clasami 11-26-06, 03:21 PM Not sure if this applies to the Eureka since I own the German version sold under the brand IAMM. NDAS needs drivers from the XIMETA web site and you will need a device ID and read/write key in order to access the device from your PC. ID and key are supplied by the distributor in Germany (and appear to be device specific as you have to provide the serial number of the device). NDAS is supposed to work since firmware revision 1.29. Eureka and IAMM are identical devices so I don't see any reason why NDAS should not work. Ask your distributor for the ID and the key. But be careful: The NDAS implementation is far from perfect and not really stable. When I say slow, I mean it is really, really slow. I only use it for transfer of one file at a time. If you want to fill a whole 250GB drive with data, forget it. Just hook the thing up to your PC to do that.

calvin_hobbes 11-26-06, 09:02 PM thanks to all folks.. i got my answer :-) if eureka doesn't support NDS, then its not for me..
calvin_hobbes 11-26-06, 09:03 PM errrr.... i meant NDS not NAS...
I found that onlybestrated has LX350HD N which support NDAS.
Eureka LX350 HD High Definition Wireless Media Center with DVI
ZIO LX350HD is the first high definition wireless multimedia center with 3.5" HDD Storage. Upconverts up to 1080p. Now comes with NDAS for easy hook-up to your home network. Now you can enjoy video, music and photo files on your TV streamed wirelessly from you computer. LX350HD supports High Definition video (up to 1080i) and images through its DVI (HDMI with optional DVI->HDMI cable) output.
If you can read Korean then go to eureka.ne.kr They released in Nov 16th. and onlybestrated got it so fast. But seems like new ones don't come with carrying bags.
calvin_hobbes 11-30-06, 05:40 PM thanks gofner.. eureka seems to be not an option for me at this present time. Currently debating between Tvix M5000 and M4000.
Hello, Can you please tell me if you can browse "the lan network" and browse thru more than one PC? Can this device look into more than One PC?
I read the manual, but it does not say that mcuh, I only can see Shared Names, but I cant figure it out if before this shared folders, first, you can choose WHICH PC you want to access? Becuase of the Gateway I pointing only to the 192.168.0.1 I am assuming it is only One PC. I hope not.
I am planning to buy me one of these network media players and I am still deciding between Eureka/Tvix/MediaGate, all of them seem very similar, I mean, All of them has HDMI,LAN,All video files support,ServerLess. The disvintages I found is:
1) the Tvix, can only access ONE PC and it has to be named XXXXXXXXX it means, i cannot access more than one shared folder.
2)The MediaGate DO ACCESS all the network, but it does not support Shoutcast Internet Radio Stations (this is not very important at the end.
3) The eureka has 5.1 output, which I found very very interesting, So to make my decision, I would like to know if the eureka can access more than One PC?
Thank you for your help pals.
Yes, I can ALL the shared PCs on my network and navigate to the various disks and logical shared folders (e.g. "Shared Folders") etc from my Eureka LX350HD.
At first I could not see one PC, but turned out that the problem was at the PC where XP was preventing guests to access the resources
This mught be a dumb question, but, Does the eureka CAN play Internet Radio? (like shoutcast .pls)

I do not think so. All it can "see" are the shared drives on networked PCs and any media files on them. It cannot access the internet to the best of my experience with it ...

nterface 05-06-07, 06:42 AM Hey guys,
I was thinking of purchasing this item. It this point would you still consider buying this product? have all the issues you have talked about in this thread been fixed?
Thanks for you opinions and answers,

rikytik 09-05-07, 03:53 PM I bought an LX350HD N yesterday. The ID # and the Key are on the bottom of the unit.
The media player is easy to configure and sees all the drives on my LAN, including my pda, and the media slot on my HP All-In-One printer, the latter devices connected by wireless LAN. It also sees my D-Link DNS-323 LAN server.
I first set it up using a wired LAN connection. The HD mounted OK, but as noted in this thread the transfer rate is very slow--too slow to make it worthwhile for large files.
I then set it up on wireless and can't seem to get the HD to mount. I'll uninstall and try a re-install. No mattter, I won't use that feature anyway.
My unit is a special edition and uses SATA instead of IDE. Man, this unit beats the socks off the D-Link DMS 520, which a buddy of mine has. The DMS 520 won't play IFO/VOB files. My buddy says he even has audio syncing problems with it.
I don't think the unit can access internet media files (which the D-Link can do) But, haven't looked into this aspect at all.
I don't see the NDAS software on Zio's site, but I got the software CD with mine.
So far, I'm delighted and happy I made the plunge. Playing music works great, as does viewing slide shows. Viewing movies is perfect.
