My question is, when playing a Blu-ray with DTS-HD MA though 5.1 analog does the output go to DTS-HD High Res or all the way down to the highly compressed DTS soundtrack? You get the DTS core, not DTS-HD HRA. HRA is a different format.

I too retired my 10a for an oppo 80 recently. the DTS-MA was very noticeable improvement.

I'm running 5.1 analogue outs

Nice! I doubt you will find anything the 10a does better than the oppo...

I tested Avatar today out of curiosity due to some the reports of issues with Avatar in other BD players. It took a long time to load but it did work on my bd10a with the latest firmware.

Thanks Brasky, just picked up Avatar last night, had to update my pioneer 51 before it would play in my theater room, I will try later today with my panny. Thanks again.

I tell you, the BD10, though a 1st gen player, has played everything that I've thrown at it. It's been a solid player. Has anyone figured out how to hack the recording part of the bluray yet ?

When was the last firm wear released and do you think there will be anymore for it?

looks like it was 8/08. Never found a single disc it would not play.

Have you tried Star Trek season 2? I ask because I've heard some folks lamenting that it wouldn't play. Who knows if they had the, apparent, final firmware?

I have the BD10A and season 2 of star trek I will test tonight for you and get back to you tomorrow. Am also using the latest firmware. My BD10A plays everything. But the Picture Quality does not come no where near my Denon A1UD.

I opened the player chassis and put the BD drive in my PC (it's an IDE drive and shows up as "MATSHITA BD-MLT SW-5582" in Imgburn) but it can only read and not write discs. I found a drive firmware update installer but it seems that it will only work on specific Sony PCs.

Has anyone had good or bad results with this new Blu ray? I have tried two now and they both hang after the menu, you see FBI warning and disclaimers but the movie never starts, it just says play and blank screen. I have version 2.4, The music plays and the menu comes up fine. I will upgrade to the latest 2.5 if it will help.

I haven't had a problem, but the new BD discs are taking longer and longer to load. It takes like 5 min. to get Avatar to play.

I tried this and it didn't work, not sure if should or not, I don't think so looking at the manual. Will the newer dvds players handle and play them?

I burned 4 gig of mp3s on a dvd+rw, tried it in the bd10a and said not compatible.

Has any one been successful at burning mp3s to dvds and playing them on this machine?

Has anyone else had trouble playing "James and the Giant Peach" on blu-ray. I can get menu access and all, but the main movie WILL NOT PLAY. Not even through scene selection.

Updated firmware.

I installed a new AVR last night and dumped the analogs for HDMI. In the set up menu I turned HDMI audio on, and then set everything to bitstream. I want my new AVR to do the decoding. I am not getting Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio, I am getting DTS core and legacy DD. What am I missing?

This player outputs Dolby True HD as PCM and does not do DTS-MA. Set your new AVR to PCM...

I knew this player would not decode DTS-MA, but I thought you could send the signal via bitstream in HDMI and let the AVR decode the signal?

The dmp-bd10a only decodes internally, it does not bitstream those formats.

So for advanced codecs over HDMI set everything to PCM? I have a PS3 so I guess I'll use it to play DTS-MA discs.

If I buy a new receiver with DTS-MA decoding, will I get DTS-MA out of my BD10A through the 7.1 analog?

No, you'll get DTS reg-lar but at it's highest bit-rate.

Ok I have been following this thread since it started, But I am not about to reread it to find my answer again. MY BD10 a used to be hooked up to a DLP and a 7.1 Sound System. I now have it hooked to my Sammsung Plasma HDMI and no Suround system at this time.

1. Can Any one help me to pick what settings wouldbe best in the set up menu,

Ex. Multi channel or 2 ch. Theres also a darker setting and all that kind of stuff. Thanks a lot.

How should the other settings be set, such as HDMI levels and Black levels and what not? Picture detail normal or fine and so on.

When Was the last Firmware Released? Will there be more? My Guess is not which sucks because this has been a great player for me, I have this along with the 55 and the 85 and this is my most used one out of all of them.

I have my BD10A set up to play the high res audio through HDMI using PCM. My receiver is a Yamaha RX3900 and verifies 7:1 as does the Blue Ray player using test tones. I can only get the player to pass 5:1 high res such as Dolby True HD. I do the disc set up for 7:1 and only 5:1 passes via PCM. I should mention the back surround work fine when using Dolby EX. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Most discs only contain 5.1 sound track. Are you sure you are playing a disc with 7.1 sound tracks. 7.1 TrueHD and DTS-HD are very rare. On some newer Panny players, Panasonic also restrict the decoding capability in software to 5.1 max for low end players so that they can force you to pay more for mid or higher end versions.

But yours is pretty old version. Such limit wasn't imposed back then.
