View Full Version : Issues with HD-DVD attachment?

I just got my HD-DVD attachment for my XBOX 360 a couple of days ago, and I've noticed a couple of things. I'm curious; has anybody else noticed any of the following?

- Slower startup / bootup and hard drive access of XBOX 360
- I own a 60" Sony A2000; my 360 is set to 1080i output via component video cable. Has anybody with this (or other setups) noticed a lot of flickering or judder? For example, on scene 47 ("The Empire State Building") of the included King Kong DVD, when the camera follows Kong up the building and you can see the skyline of the rest of New York, the bright lights on all of the buildings are flickering.
- This is probably a coincidence, but when I hooked up my HD-DVD attachment, my Nyko Intercooler started making very loud sounds and caused the 360 to give me a single red light; once I removed it, the 360 was fine.

THANKS!

Don't use that piece of junk. If will eventually burn your 360.

Do you have the HD-DVD attachment? Can you pop in the disk and let me know if you see the same things I see at scene 47? THANKS :)

I've read about that, but I've read that it has been a very small defective rate with the Nyko Intercoolers. I probably won't replace it.

I also have a Sony TV. I notice this flicker (like the picture was going dim then bright really quickly) too. On all of my inputs, during bright scenes! Check all your inputs. I think this is the TV.
Is the bulb old? My TV was a display unit, and I suspect my bulb is about to give.

Anyone had a bulb go out on them, and got the flickering before it blew?

I have a brand new (as of August) 60" Sony A2000. All of my connections are solid. Do you think I should put in a service call?

If it doesn't cost you anything, sure! It just started on my TV about 2 months ago. But I'm not sure about your case. If you don't have the flicker on other inputs? Look really hard. Some times I notice it and sometimes you have to really look. Like on my 360, through component, I see it on the blades! On my DishNetworkHD, I have to look for a bright scene and really look. But it's there!

Let me know the out come.

I do have mine set to Auto 1. So, if I change it to Auto 2 the issue will be fixed?

Well I did a search on Yahoo. And it seems this(TV Flicker) is not a new issue. Check out this forum. http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=2790
If you scam through it you'll see this is a problem on a few Sony sets. Including my tv KDF50WE655

Just leave plenty of space for the heat to dissipate. The 360 doesn't need any extra cooling. Both of mine perform great without any extra cooling since I leave room for any exhaust heat to rise away from the unit.

Slower Start up when booting to the dash. But everything else appears normal to me.

If you have a disk in the drive it slows the drive down because it reads the disk before it boots.

I have a slightly slower startup as well.

However, I applied a new theme as well, and it seems that themes add a little to the start time as well, or at least I think there's a slight pause from signing in to full dash up and running. No worries though.

Yes, I have noticed a lot of flickering in the King Kong HD-DVD...thought it was just me. Kinda relieved that it's not just me.

In that dinner scene between Jack Black and Naomi Watts...after they first meet...there's a lot of flicker in the background...very distracting. And yes, it's really bad when Kong climbs the Empire State Building.

Wonder if this is just the HD-DVD player or the particular movie?? Any other results with other HD-DVD movies?? What kind of tv are you watching on? I am watching on a Samsung 46" 1080p LCD.

About the slow start ups...

Are you leaving a HD-DVD or DVD in the add on drive then turning the Xbox on? That's when I notice the slower start up, but without a movie in the drive it boots up as it did before.

I agree,
My xbox 360 splash screen takes little longer to load, I bet this is becuase its reading the HD-DVD in the HD-DVD player..

This issue was caused by my TV. I just got my bulb replaced and this problem is gone!

only issue i've had is rs:vegas locks up occasionally when exiting a multiplayer lobby. unplugging the hd dvd from the usb port makes the problem go away.

I don't plug in the HD-DVD add-on into the USB port unless I'm going to use it. That way it's not on all the time when I'm just playing games.

That issue has to do with CRT RPTVs. The OP has a SXRD RPTV (microdisplay). The issue described by Sony cannot possibly occur on his TV.
