heres the proof

it seems the new model 32" and 37" accept 1080p input signals via HDMI and component!?!?.... now of course the TV is downscaling the 1080p signal to match its native resolution of 720p(768p actually). but still this is very interesting because it states NOWHERE on the manual or website that these tv's can accept a 1080p input via HDMI or component!

well i'll be shitting myself..low and behold

this indeed is MOST interesting.. now of course the TV isnt actually displaying 1080p, but **** i didnt know the Vizios or any HDTV can accept 1080p via HDMI?!? i know the specs for the Vizio doesnt state anywhere that it can accept 1080p via HDMI!. im SOOO going to have to check out the games(resistance) in 1080p and see if it looks the same or alittle better then set in 720p since technically the TV is slightly upscaling 720p to a actual 768p and the Tv is downscaling 1080p to 768p.. i think its always better downscaling then to upscale something and add information that really isnt there in the case of upscaling.

This is awesome news. I have my eye on the 37" Vizio LCD and this may just make me buy it.

Thanks for the info.

Just got the Oppo 981 and the VX37L is accepting its 1080p HDMI signal as well. Though it's running into issues with 720p, so it's a good thing it's flexible.

This is a nice unadvertised feature :p

So, using a PC as a source, how does everything look when using 1080 as output res? Is text still quite legible at, say, a font of '8'?

If your issues with 720p don't involve picture quality, are you actually seeing a difference in picture between the set getting a 1080p signal and downconverting vs. a 720p signal. If not, is this really that big a deal and what would the aplication be?

i've had picture issues when i had my PS3 set to output 1080p, you see certain games ONLY support 720p(e.g. resistance:fall of man) so when you are in the PS3 Xm media bar(menu) the signal is 1080p, when you start playing a game like Resistance it switches resolution to 720p... this "changing of resolution" from 1080p to 720p was giving me ALOT of green dots in areas that where dark, and it was ALOT of green dots. it didnt just happen once it happened EVERY single time i went from 1080p to 720p back to 1080p.. i think the problem was that the TV in fact cant accept a 1080p signal BUT what your doing is like forcing the 1080p signal into the TV.

There was very easy fix for my picture issue.. what i had to do was switch to another input(e.g. component) then switch right back to HDMI and the picture was perfectly fine again.. but it was annoying having to do this every single time.. so i just left my PS3 to output 720p(my native resolution)

but i thought it was good to know that the vizio DOES actually accept 1080p... weird right!

Here's a can of worms! There's conflicting opinions as to what's better for a 768p display: a 720p upconverted signal or a 1080p downconverted signal. I emailed Oppo about it (with regard to the 981 DVD player) and they advised a 720p output -- to get as close to your monitor's resolution as possible.

At the end of the day it depends on what you think looks better (edit: by this, I'm referring to how good any TV, not just the Vizio, upconverts versus downconverts a signal; clearly some are better then others) -- if you own the TV, do a quick A/B comparison to judge what looks best with your settings/environment.

(edit: to answer your question, I can't do this comparison because I bought a set of inexpensive HDMI cables (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9112893#post9112893) which may be royally screwing up my 720p output and slightly screwing up my 1080i/p outputs)

The differance between downscaled 1080p and upscaled (slightly) 720p on an LCD wouldn't be noticeable. It's nice that you don't have to dick around with 720p and you can just throw 1080p at it and not futz with it though.

Now if only it could really display 1920x1080 @ 60hz (1080p), I'd go out and buy it right now. Would be the cheapest 1080p TV on the market

I know my 42" Vizio accepts 1080p via component. Don't have any 1080p HDMI sources to test as of yet.

Can anyone confirm this? How about for PC monitor?

Costco has the 32" model available for $599 - model VX32L... Circuit City has it on sale for the same price.

I picked one up today and can confirm that it does 1080p off my Oppo DVD player via HDMI. Great "hidden" feature...

Yeah, my PS3 is able to send 1080P to the Vizio 32 inch over HDMI and the Vizio info box displays it as a 1080P signal.

But (correct me if I'm wrong) since the PS3 can deinterlace/interlace internally, wouldn't it be better to set the output signal to 720P and not make the Vizio's deinterlacer/scaler go into 'overdrive' since I'm sure the more powerful PS3 processor has no trouble scaling or deinterlacing....I was just wondering about that

bump about wanting to know if it's better to have the PS3 output everything at 720P so the Vizio doesn't have to scale anything ;)
