Guys,

I've been searching for a component cable for use witha portable DVD player MUSTEK MP85. Unit has mini-plug jack designated 'progressive-scan' for use with external TV.

Unit came with a composite A/V cable with mini jack on one end tht plugs into interlaced jack on player. Composite cable works fine. Mustek's web page is of no use.

I haven't had any luck finding such cable. I'm not sure if there is a special name for this type of cable.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Gary,
I have a Toshiba Sd-P2600 portable DVD player that has a mini plug connection cable with component plugs on the other end. This allows the player to pass through a progressive scan picture to an external display. Here is a link to the Toshiba parts centers in the U.S., maybe they have one.

Edit: actually, it is not a mini plug but a 14 pin D connector with the 3 component plugs on the other end .

Mustek has Really bad tech support and customer support, No one knew what type of cable this item requires. I will Take this item back to the store and go with a known name.

Some people suggested using the composite cable out from the progressive jack to see if it would work. You need to keep switching the yellow, red and white plugs around until you get the proper configuration but it does work. A proper component cable custom made for this configuration, which is uncommon, would cost $25-$30.

My feeling was the analog 480i signal looked better than the 480p signal. Granted, the cable is a POS but after rethinking the situation, I'm very pleased with the results when sending the 480i signal to my LCD panel which upconverts it to 720p anyway.

I bought the unit from Office Depot on Black Friday for $60 after rebates. It's a great little player. I have it connected to a 20" LCD and it looks great. It has played almost everything I've thrown at it. MP3s, authored DVDs, DIVX, MPEG 2 burned to DVD-R/RW --- DVD+R/RW --- DVD+R DL ---- CD-R/RW.

It will not play an Audio CD and I have not tried AVI files.

Hello.
Gary E, I've tried switching the composite red, yellow, & white rca plugs around to make it work as a component/progressive scan cable, but it doesn't work properly. I can get the picture on some arrangments, but I can't get the right colour cast. I tried all the permutations, and of course, I was exiting the progressive scan hole on my Mustek MP72 (and I agree, Mustek has bad customer support).
Thus, if it worked for you, could you tell me, please, what red, white, yellow plug went into which green, red, blue plug of your tv?
Thank you.

dr.itch,

I do not remember what configuration I used. I do remember getting an inferior looking image on my TV but the display did indicate 480p. The Mustek's interlaced output to my LCD is very good and I prefer to let my TV deinterlace and upconvert the 480i signal.

Bottom line for me was it just wasn't worth the hassle. It's a nice little player however.
