I recently had to replace my older Moto (Comcast) box with a new one due to PVR Drive issues. The new one is a 3416 w/12.35 firmware and MSTV). I've got a HDMI to DVI cable that the Comcast office gave me, but I cannot seem to get it to work. My TV will not init and stays on a black screen, and the STB just sits there with 'DVI' on the front panel and eventually locks up, requiring a power cable pull to fix. I've read a bunch of the fixes on Wikipedia, etc. and could not get anything to work. Diag mode shows N/A for the HDCP enabled option in diagnostics, and I cannot get the HDMI connection up to see if HDCP is working. It locks up when both Component and HDMI/DVI is connected. I have a Hitachi 42HDT55 which does not have HDMI inputs. I have the STB set to 1080i and 16:9, but have tried 480p, i, and 720p as well without luck. I've tried all manner of turning things on and off in different orders, etc.

Component does work, but I notice a lowering in PQ while viewing HD material between component and DVI, which is why I would like to get back to DVI. Of course Comcast does not have any DVI PVR boxes anymore...

I do have a separate non-PVR STB (older 6412 with DVI out) which works with my TV (DVI to DVI) just fine.

Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks...

Not sure if this is the answer as I am using HDMI for output to my TH50PX60U's HDMI input. But I just got the 3416 on Saturday and was playing with the settings. If you turn off the box and press the "Menu" button on the remote (seems like I always have to press it a couple of times) it brings up a screens with settings you can change like output type, 4:3 override, etc. On this screens there should be an option that says other HDMI settings, go to it and press the right arrow. In the next menu it should have an HDMI output type or something similar (not sure because I am not in front of my tv) but I noticed it has HDMI and DVI as options for this setting. Mine is on HDMI and works fine, you may want to try DVI.

you want to connect the component cable or svideo or whatever. then power off the dvr and hit the menu 1 or 2 times. then there is a menu option "additional hdmi setttings" you want to select that and change the hdmi mode to dvi.

I tried as you suggested, and unfortunately, the additional HDMI settings selection is grayed out and will not allow me to select it. This was with S Video while the DVI was connected. I'll try again tonight using component instead...

Actually, the "HDMI Settings" or "Additional HDMI Settings" isn't there at all. Weird... I suspect it is because the DVI isn't hooked up when I am in the menu, because if I do hook it up, the 3416 just locks up and displays DVI on the front screen.

Have you tried doing it "blind". In other words, memorize the steps needed to change the setting if it wasn't grayed out then connect the DVI cable and do it that way without being able to see it on the screen. I've had to do that in the past with my old TV that didn't support 720p.

On a side note, you won't be totally "blind" either because the box does display a portion of the menu right on the box itself.

Yes, I have tried it 'blind' but no combination of settings there seems to allow it to work. Especially since the second the HDMI->DVI cable is connected the box freezes up...
