Hello I am new to these forums. This may be in the wrong thread so sorry in advance if it is. I have a bit of a detailed question so bear with me please. This seems to be the place to ask this though as there seem to be quite a few techy people in here!

I bought a Viewsonic N3260W HD Ready TV in anticipation of the PS3. Here are the basic specs for it:

Size: 32" (81cm)
Supports: HDMI, Component and VGA Video Inputs.
Native Resolution: 1366x768
Does not have optical out.
Supports 1080i and 720p.
Supports HDCP

I purchased this TV primarily because I wanted a cheap TV to do Hi-Def gaming from a console. My plan was originally to buy a PS3 and hook it up via HDMI (I don't have a PS3 yet). I have not connected anything to my TV via HDMI before.

Post PS3 launch I am now reading reports about people who are using the HDMI interface on the PS3 and are having all sorts of wierd issues. Some of these include a black screen, thats locking up their TV while a blu-ray game is loading (something to do with HDCP handshaking). No sound or sound dropping out when using optical out and HDMI in the game 'Resistance FOM' (component+optical is apparently fine).

Firstly I would love to find someone else with this TV or even the N4060W who has a PS3 to see if they have had any of these issues ?

If anyone is thinking "why don't you use component cables instead of HDMI", here is the second part of the problem:

My friends who bring over their Xbox360 consoles to play on my TV are hooked up via component. In this configuration we have tried games in both 720p and 1080i. When playing games in 720p my TV has a horrible ghosting/shadow sort of effect around text and some graphics. When we switch the Xbox360 into 1080i mode in the setup menu, there is no ghosting and everything seems fine. Can anyone else with a viewsonic HD LCD TV also conform this problem? If I was guessing, I would say that my TV can not scale the 720p image as well as the 1080i, but that is just a guess.

Anyhow it seems that some of the PS3's best games like Resistance and Motorstorm are all going to be 720p native resolution and with the PS3 unable to upscale the image into 1080i, I am fearful of the horrible ghosting that I have experienced at that resolution through component. After reading many reviews of my TV it would seem that it produces its best picture through HDMI (one review said it had no ghosting through that connection), although I can't confirm this as I have no Hi-def HDMI devices yet. I would love to know if this ghosting appears via HDMI.

So basically my prediciment is, should I buy an Xbox360 and run Hi-Def games upscaled at 1080i through component? (which I know runs beautifully) Or should I risk buying the machine I always wanted (PS3) to hook up via HDMI and use optical out?

I so wish this could be answered. I plan to buy either the Viewsonic N3260W, N2751W, N3251w, or even N2060w. I know this is the PS section, but is the Wii capable of connecting through HDMI?
