I'm not one of you tech guys just love my replay. It is 3 years old it has started to get a mosaic break up of the pic for a few seconds.Sometimes the voice and mouths of people aren't right. Is this a hard drive problem or a heat problem. It is usually pretty full could that be the cause.I am using Comcast cable.

JIMYou must have some free space in order for these things to work correctly. Leave 5 or 10 hours available. On the other hand, a 3 year old drive may well be on its way out and could cause pixilated video. Sound out of sync will happen from time to time. I offer ready to install hard drives should you need one. Please email me if interested.

Another issue with DVR's is that it can be hard to tell the difference between a DVR problem and a source problem. I've seen a lot more uncorrected video errors lately across multiple channels from my Time-Warner cable. It may be that satellite reception is worse this time of year. Audio sync issues can also be a source problem. While the problem may well be your DVR, it may not be. Digitally compressed data is carried throughout the transmission chain, and shows similar artifacts no matter where the error occurred.

Is there any kind of workaround or fix other than repeatedly dumping the buffer?

Turn off the Replay when you aren't actively watching it?

Cheers!
