I am looking at getting a smaller LCD or plasma for the breakfast area near the kitchen. May also get one for the kids' room. I'm looking for something in the 20" to 30" range that won't break the bank. I have a 42" plasma for primary viewing now. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I just purchased the Phillips 23" LCD HD set thru costco's website. . It's very inexpensive for that set. I saw it today for 300 more at CC and BB. Good luck.

you may want to check out the two new Vizio LCD sets, the VX20L and the VX32L
a lot of bang for the buck

I'm moving this back up. I was about to buy the phillips 23" from costco, but read a few reviews that the minimum volume is too loud. This could be a bad thing in a bedroom. Any input on this?

i like the phillips 23" because it has a dvi connection, but it lacks a atsc tunner, does anyone know of a 23" with dvi and atsc tunner?

thanks

Might I recommend the Sharp LC20SH21U. I just got this 20" LCD flat panel for my bedroom and it's amazing. The picture quality is SUPERB. The sound is average. It has ATSC tuner built in, and has HDMI, component and composite input. Plus it has PC VGA input. It's like the perfect mini HDTV. The resolution is 1370 x 720, so it displays 720p perfectly. A name brand for $399 what else can you ask for??

I would really like bigger than 20". Was thinking 23-26, but love the < $400 price tags. :)

do not get the phillips. my parents bought that for the guest room for 600 at bestbuy. awful picture, i dont know why. unless anyone here can post screens proving otherwise, its ugly. anyhow, price matched because CC sells it for less but now that someone mentioned costco sells it for even less, could i get yet another price match at CC if i showed them the costco site?

as for the display itself, i dont know what it is but nothing seems good about this display. tested it via xbox 360 and when compared to the toshiba they bought 2 years ago, its absolutely horrific to look at.

i'm disgusted this thing is so costly and my parents dont want to return it because they think the picture is "fine".

hmmm, now that i look at the specs the 16ms response time may have something to do with the fact the picture is so poor when i play games on it. could this be the problem?

16ms response time? That's GHOST-LIKE! But a lot of times you get what you pay for. Philips is borderline generic brand for LCDs, so it's cheap. I think in the end you have to consider if the extra $$ is worth it.....all depends on your needs and watching habits. I recommend the Samsung and Sharp brands for a good quality/cost balance.

I recommend the Sharp 20" LC20SH21U. They are hard to find, and it's super nice in terms of features and picture quailty. For $399, you get:

HDMI
HDTV 720p resolution (due to small size)
Built in ATSC tuner
Component inputs
PC VGA input
Optical output
Nice exterior look...super picture quality
Average sound, average remote functions

Its really hard to find such a small LCD HDTV with so many features and low price. Thats why i recommend it.

I'm starting to lean towards 26" over 23". I would definitely not go 20" in the room I need it for, but maybe 23". I'm still having trouble finding a good deal. I am hoping there will be some sales around Super Bowl week.

I found conflicting info on the number of tuners. It does have: ATSC, NTSC & QAM, correct? If so, I may have to order this puppy on Monday! And, if ya look around, I found even lower pricing! :)

Thanks for the info!

Kelly,
One more thing. How do SD broadcasts look on this unit? Some HD displays don't display SD very well.

Thanks,
