Flight of the Phoenix is supposed to be available tomorrow. Has anyone seen any reviews? I know the movie itself isn't all that good, but it was an excellent demo for sound on DVD.

If anyone gets it, please post your impressions here. Anthony Cler 12-08-06, 06:09 PM bump! Roger Mathus 12-08-06, 06:52 PM watched Flight of the Phoenix last night and audio seems to be the story. First, it seems that Fox has mastered this disc with audio several dbs above normal. I did not compare the SD disc. Second, the surrounds are very active and seem louder than normal compared to the mains yet dialogue is not a problem. For the full effect, try Chapter 7. Bass in all channels as well as sub. You will not be dissapointed. It caused the theater seats in my projection room to vibrate. PQ, based upon first impression, is above average. As I recall, the film got mixed tending towards negative reviews when released. I kind of liked it. Audio is awesome but may be mixed with too agressive surrounds.......I await comments from others on this point. Malcolm_B 12-08-06, 07:02 PM With my Buttkicker, the SD of this movie dang near blew me out of my chair during the crash sequence. Might have to try the Blu version now. Anthony Cler 12-11-06, 01:33 PM Thanks Roger. Your right, the audio is the story. I have this movie on DVD and it's always been one I use to show off the sound system. However, I've never felt like the picture quality was as good as it could be and that's why I'm interested in hearing how the picture quality on the BD is. If the picture quality on this Blu-Ray disc is as bad as Telladega Nights, I'll pass. If it is significantly better than standard DVD though, I'd get it in a heartbeat. AndyM 01-28-07, 09:26 AM so weird. why is this disc getting ignored ? no review site reviews, little spoken in the forums. i thought this would have been prime beef for high def. not even mentioned in the tier thread. weirder. what's up ? so, anything out there ? opinions ? good PQ ? bad PQ ? worth upgrading ? please ... anyone ... The movie received poor ratings, hence no demand to buy it. Coupled with the fact that it seems to be more expensive than most Blu-Ray discs. Coupled with the fact that it seems to be more expensive than most Blu-Ray discs. very true, but that hasn't stopped other equal classics getting their share of the limelight. and granted it's one of fox's "what planet are they on" premium prices, but just thought there might have been more response to this title. but still, good that fox is loosing sales [assumed]. maybe the hamster in the wheel might start turning ... thanks for the reply. mooshoo 01-28-07, 12:45 PM I do have a copy of this, and while i'm no expert or anything, i thought the transfer was 'ok' but not great. it felt very soft at times, as if there was a haze, but at other times it was ok. saw some compression noise in the night scenes and banding around the fireplace too. sound was superb, as noted. the crash scene itself was prolly worth the price alone :) NovaKane 01-28-07, 04:58 PM Well I'm glad someone posted their observations regarding this film. I too was miffed at the dearth of reviews for this title (and the reasoning can't stem from it not being a good movie. There are plenty of substandard films getting reviewed). Thanks, Mooshoo. I'm sure I'll get it at some point. tkbryant 01-28-07, 05:04 PM It's a decent transfer. As the previous poster above said...Sometimes fantastic, sometimes very soft. There is considerable grain during the low light level night scenes of which there are only a few but overall it's pretty good. And like all the Fox discs so far..it has a fantastic soundtrack. rover2002 11-16-08, 09:47 PM There is also a wobble or very slight shaking through out the film, not sure what the tech term would be, played on a PS3.
