--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have not come across this issue in any of the threads, so maybe its just me. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to connect wirelessly and I've had success with no protection or using WEP protection. But when I attempt to connect using WPA, I get an error saying that a connection to the access point could not be established. I'm entering the network key exactly as it appears on my router, I even changed it to a simple 8 character key and that didn't help.

Does anyone have any suggestions???

What access point are you using? Is there a firmware update available. WPA2 w/ AES is the best way to go if you can. I have worked with a lot of access points and some are better than others when using WPA.

I'm using a netgear WGR614 router. I didn't think about a firmware update, so I'll check that when I get back home. It was just surprising to me that the PS3 would connect with no encryption and with WEP encryption but not with WPA. I have two laptops on my network that connect with no problem at all & the only reason I'm using WPA is because its the only supported set up for my job.

WPA is the way to go. WEP is pretty worthless now and will slow your connection down substantially.

If you can't get it working I would suggest to just leave the connection un-encrypted and don't broadcast the SSID and use MAC filtering. This will be an equal deterrent as WEP but without the slowdown.

I assume you don't have any general WPA issues with your WGR614 and other networked computers? I don't have a PS3 (yet), but I have that same router, and I had so many problems trying to get WPA to work with networking computers (even with Netgear cards) that I finally had to give up and do WEP. I plan on getting another router soon.

Yes, no problems with other computers on the network, just the PS3. I updated the firmware yesterday and still no luck. I'm not sure what the problem is, I think I've tried every possible solution.

I have the same router, WGR614 v4 and had the same issue. However I was not able to get WEP working until I read this thread. I was only getting the unencrypted connection to work.

Reason : I was entering the letters in lower case (a-f). When I read this I decided to try again and it hit me to try capital letters, now I have WEP.

As for WPA, no luck.
I have tried the latest firmware, entering everything manually in the ps3 menu, enabling - disabling SSID broadcast, the list goes on. There is another laptop connecting through WPA in the network so I know the configuration is correct. But i will switch that laptop to WEP in the meantime until i figure out if sony or netgear will fix this.

I would buy another router but I would rather get one when the 802.11N spec is final and routers have been out for a while.

I have a Netgear 624 v3 wireless router. I initially could not get my PS3 to connect via wireless, direct connect was fine. I disabled "Wireless Card Access List" under the "Advanced Wireless Setting" in the Netgear config page and now connect via wireless with no trouble, even on the highest encryption setting. Alternatively, I guess you could add the PS3 MAC Address to "Wireless Card Access List" to allow access, too. Just might try that....
Hope this helps! :D

You were able to connect wirelessly using WPA2? I get a "NOT SUPPORTED" message.

To clarify, my current encryption setting in my router is WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] .. :)
