Just purchased Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and it's the first game where the geometry isn't matching up. The status bar/health bar on the left of the screen is halfway off the screen. I'm missing essentially about 3/4 inch of screen real estate.

Haven't seen this issue in any other game. 360 is outputting in 720p, selector is set to HDTV...like I said, zero problems in other games. Is this a xbr970 fix or an xbox 360 fix?

Thanks for any advice.

My thoughts are that perhaps this particular game was designed with 0% overscan in mind. That would be for non CRT displays like LCD. Now I am just guessing a bit but I heard that Gran Tourismo 4 shows black bars around the screen if one were to do 0% overscan. The designers evidently considered that CRTs would be used. If you were to reduce the overscan on the 970 through the Service Menu then perhaps the bar that is missing half of it will come back.

This is just conjecture at this point.

PS Geometry is about how straight a straight line is when displayed, such as the news ticker at the bottom on the screen on CNN. If it is bent then that would be a geometry problem.

Maybe the picture is just offcentered. My 30HS420 was offset to the left and I had to use the service menu to adjust that and a tilt issue.

ALot of Games Published by 2K have to have less than 5% overscan... I had to go in and scale my image down because NHL 2K6, 2K7, Oblivion, TD:U, and about 3 other games had info going off the edge..

yes, 1080i cuts off even more of the picture actually.

Adjusting the overscan is pretty easy on these tv's ,What I did was download one of the test patterns from this site http://www.tigerdave.com/test_patterns.htm (1280x720 = 720P , 1920x1080 = 1080i) and copied the file over to my Xbox360 then adjusted the overscan using the pattern. I have my XBR960 set at about 4% overscan and so far haven't encountered issues with any games.

Good idea! Also you could tune in to INHD tuneup program on the HD channel, they also have a overscan test pattern, I think my XBR960 overscan was around 2.5 :)

I need guide or help for the same thing, service codes for a XBR 970 and how to ajust the overscan on this tv when useing a 360, iv been anoyed by this problems since i bought this tv 8 months ago, and its not just marvel ulitimate alliance i notice it in every game, and xbox live arcade , some games are just worse then others depending if there is text that needs to be read on the left side of the screen, the only way i found to fix this is to play in 480p, but that sucks and defeats the purpose of why i bought a a HDTV in the first place, any help would be dearly welcome, and like the orginal poster said it cuts off even more in 1080i then it does in 720p
