Just got some DYNEX DVD-r media at Bestbuy for 4.99. Does anybody know how these discs perform?Are their any particular media that you should stay away from,or does all media do ok?

What you want to do, unless you already have it, is get yourself either DVD Info, or DVD Identifier they are software programs you can download for free online. What they do is...you place one of your DYNEX DVD's in your DVD Burner in your computer, and you can find out what the "Media ID" is of whatever DVD you put in.

Once you know what the Media ID is, go to this website...

...and see where the Media ID ranks within the First to Fourth Class Media.

Obviously 1st Class is better than the ones below it, but even within their respective classes the higher the Media ID's rank per class, the better they are.

Just a few examples of great Media ID's are:

anything starting with MCC or MKM
TYG01, TYG02, TYG03, or YUDEN***(etc)

As long as you can stay within First and Second Class you will really do fine.

Post a reply back to us and let us all know what Media ID your DYNEX DVD's are.

According to digitalfaq, Dynex are Ricoh.

I couldn't agree more, not even worth the effort with bad media!

With the cost of good media down to three for a dollar or less, I really can't understand the need some people have for getting $0.20 media only to have coasters, problems, and issues all related to bad media. If I had a machine without a hard drive, it would be even MORE critical to have good media, because you might not get a second chance to record the content. I am in complete agreement with kelson, use good media and eliminate one headache from your life. Compared to the cost of VHS cassettes, blank DVDs are very inexpensive.

Life is too short to drink bad wine or burn "cheap" media . . .

$1.33 each for 8x media? What do they ID as? Maxell has not been great media for me in the past. :(

I abandoned Maxell when I started getting Ritek G05 media codes from their discs.

Those MIJ you bought may be Maxell Codes, but Wow they are expensive!!

I quit Maxell when I started seeing the "made in Taiwan" but heard the MIJ's are OK.

Around 1981 and also the machine itself was way over $1,000 ($1284.20) dollars.
Also bought the huge camera for it. (RCA)
Still got them, but purchased new equipment further down the line.

Thanks for the Pics.......Takes me down memeory lane. A buddy of mine bought a VHS Recorder sometime in the early 80's and it was around $800....I thought he was nutz!! But they had kids and felt it was reasonable price for a fulltime nanny. : )

That unit had "clear freeze frame", and frame advance forward and backward. We felt like we were in the presence of Alien Technology!!
