First of all thank you Mlm39.
I apppreciate your help.
I already found these web sites, but i'm looking for something more.
For example, i don't know nothing about the software that the streamer use.
I don't know if it is user frendly or not.
I don't know how It can manage the 2 external Hard disks and the internal Hard disk etc etc etc.
for this reason i'm searching on the web some detail,PDF User manual or similar, where i can understand better.

But Thanks again Mlm39

I'm truly afftected for your initiative

In the mean time i called by phone a UK company that i found on the web and after a conversation with sales people finally i spoke with a technical person.

He is sending to me a pdf by e-mail where i can read any type of detail of DUEPLE 350D.

I will update thi thread as soon as i receive this information but in any case thank you for your good help and support

I received from Franz1 the manual of DUPLE350 in pdf format.
I'm satisfied because include a lot of feature for me important.

It hasn't a wireless option but for video in VOB format wireless is not a option but an obstacle and after some experience i don't care wireless

Now i will buy this object that include the following possibilities:
1) DVD Player Region free
2) NAS with support of NTFS Format(NOt more FAT32 or EXT2/EXT3)
3) I can manage until 3 HDD 3.5
4) i can display until 1080i resolution on TV (by Component or DVI cable)
5) i can read from PC(in lan mode) any file included ISO and Ifo Format(important for DVD downloaded)
6) i can read Dvix and xvid files included Qpel and GMC

if someone is interested at manual in PDF format, i will send by email or if someone tell me how, i can attach on this thread

Best regards

That is one of the main reason why i decided to acquire

with this object i can manage lot of things as play commercial DVD and ....much more

you think that i have a lot of mp3 files(about 500GB) and without a pc i can hear in any room on my house, but i have a lot of Videoclip(another 500 gb) that i can see on my Plasma TV .

and if i want rent a dvd i can see with the same player in HD mode

for me it is enough

Hi to everybody
Today is arrived
i attached at TV by component mode and i have installed one HD inside and 2 HD by USB ports
i updated firmware at 1.05 version(the last one)
my Plasma TV support until 720p resolution and with this resolution i have seen video 1080i(1920 x 1080i) because DUEPLE in automatic way set at the resolution that i have defined. it is the first time, with the other players i didn't see what my tv didn't support

the firmware is so young and for example i see only the HDD of first USB i don't see the HDD on the second UBS and i opened a case on the Savitmicro website and i will test their support(it is very important a good support)

Tomorrow i will try the Lan connection
Best regards and i apologize for my bad english

Thanks for that.

I have the TiVX media player (5000U), it is good but doesn't have the DVD drive which is very handy for commercial DVDs and burnt movies.

From what I've read, both of these players uses the same Sigma chipset, which means that Dueple will not play GMC videos.

Also, my player has a theoretical max. output of 1080P, which is apparently better than 1080i. The Dueple is only 1080i, so I'm not sure if that is an advantage or not.

Hi Rocklee
I was buying a TVIX 5000. Very good mediaplayer, and for this i spoke with CEO of DVICO.

This company has a good support(for me an important point when i buy a product) and TVIX 5000 has 2 USB port one HD inside then it has a lan connection . Very simlilar at the Dueple 350D

the only reason why i choiced the DUEPLE was for DVD Player
i can use it also for commercial DVD. TVIX hasn't a DVD Player. With Tvix i have to copy DVD on HARD DISK i cannot insert DVD .

for the rest these mediaplayer are very similar
Now with the new firmware DUEPLE also support 1080P

but i thank you because i need to understand what the market offer and with help of all you we can help a lot of people in order to do a right choice

Cheers

From reading the Dueple manual, it says that it does support GMC videos! I was told that my DIVX 5000U doesn't support this type of codec..hmmmm.....

I live in Korea by the way, and the Dueple is but one of many media players that uses a DVD drive. I like it but would like to hear more you about the performance and user interface. I really hope that it supports FULL HD videos (1080x1020).

I would love to see the interface for this feature, if it is possible.

i'm testing LAN Interface
The Manual explains that i have to use a cross cable if i connect direct to PC but i can use a direct cable if i connect to the firewall. i tried both but doesn't work.

What i can see that the support is not bad and there is a lot of comunication.
I will updated you as soon i have more information

Hi Walter !

I´m interested in the Dueple, too.
I have two questions:

1) Is it possible to play DVD Files such as .vob or .ifo directly from an extern USB drive via USB 2.0 (without copying it) ?

2) Does it support HD JPG in Full HD ?

walter.ciacci
01-02-07, 03:13 PM
Hi LGZahn

i try to answer

1) Yes i have a lot of DVD files on external HD 3.5(320GB) and the Dueple read the ifo files for DVD(VIDEO_TS.IFO), Vob file for videoclip and i also tested ISO files without no problem.

2) for the HD jpg i didn't tested because i haven't this type of files but if you want send me one by private email,walter.ciacci@gmail.com, i will test

Cheers
Walter

LGZahn
01-02-07, 03:29 PM
Thank you !
If it plays .ifo files, the Dueple is able to play the full menu structure of DVDs.
Is this correct ?

HD JPG: I mean large JPG-Files from a normal Digital Camera
2 Megapixels or more.
I would be fine if you could do a test for that.

walter.ciacci
01-02-07, 04:00 PM
Dueple can read the structure of DVD File. infact i specified VIDEO_TS.IFO. this file contains all the DVD information and show to you the vob file in right sequence with the language choiced from menu.

For the foto i have a digital foto camera with 7Mega and each fot is about 3.5 megaixel i will check with these photos(i think tomorrow at this time my wife and my daugher are in front of tv and it is not easy)

Hi Walter.ciacci !

I've some questions for you :D

I've read on 01net (i'm from Belgium) that the Dueple is noisy ! They said that there is 5 different levels for the fan but that the first one is already noisy (when you are in the menu). Is that true ?

I've read the PDF that you've given. To use the local lan you have to share folders on your computer (windows). I've a NAS (Synology) (a lan harddisk). Do you think it will be good with the Dueple ? It seems that Dueple doesn't support Samba sharing ...

In France the Dueple is sold under another name/brand : Keyplug ! (i can't post a link because I've just suscribed here)
I don't think that the onboard soft is different but I don't know ... it's still young !

For now I'm hesitating between a Dueple (that looks perfect to me except one thing : the menu) and a mac mini (more expensive and without a huge hdd). External design are both alright for me but the mac mini is more flexible (I can use it for other things like going on the web,...) and have better interface or menu ! Dueple is far from HTPC interface like Meedio on PC or FrontRow on mac ... :(

Do you think that it'll be possible (in the future) to change the design of the menu ?

Thank you ;)
Switch

walter.ciacci
01-03-07, 06:29 PM
Hi switchcorp
Thank you for all these questions, i try to answer

1) In the menu at the beginning the fan is set to low. you have 3 choices. i left this setting and sometime i forget that the Dueple is on.

2) i'm in love of Synology 106. if you manage by PC you can see the information on DUEPLE, if you don't want the pc on , i have to ask at support

What you tell is true.the product is young, but it is so powerful, i tried a lot of media player before it and i can tell you that is another story, much better and it has also a DVD player. when i have seen the performance i was without words and then it is possible to comunicate by email and by phone(skype) with the support and i can garantee that they are growing so fast and accept any suggest(this is a big advantage of young company) and we can partecipate with our idea at this growth.

it is important (for me)that they start from 2 topics
1) A powerful chip
2) all in one solution(included DVD Player)

For me is not important the wireless because for HD files wireless is not possible at now

the software cannot be a problem, it is only code that they can modify but without hardware is impossible and the hardware is present

Cheers

One more question about the Dueple, it plays DVD movies, but does it also play DIVX movies on DVDs?

walter.ciacci
01-04-07, 01:35 AM
Dueple support Divx and Xvid, it also support GMC and Qpel but honestly i don't know if i burn a Divx on DVD, Dueple can read, but it seems strange if it don't, but i will check

switchcorp
01-04-07, 04:45 AM
And what about the H264 ?

If what I remember is good, the Dueple doesn't support H264 (the chip they use to decode media doesn't support H264) ...

H264 is an important codec.. for the HD

In Belgium we can't speak very well about HD because there is no provider for HD media (only HD-DVD or blue-ray but it's not what I want)... but it's clear that it will come ...

I'm hesitating ...

walter.ciacci
01-04-07, 05:46 AM
i have seen that with the first firmware update they move from 1080i to 1080p support
for the new HD-DVD and Blu-RAY format i don't really know. But when in Europe wil this format become standard? almost one year

when i decided to by a media player i hesitated from this and Tvix 5000. they are very similar.
Tvix has a more mature firmware, Dueple has a DVD player and i came from D-link(ancient world). at this moment these two player are the best(form my opinion)on the market and no one of them support at now this format

you can wait for a new chip but in the mean time??
it is your choice and if you find something please tell me
I found Dueple come across and i like to discover other media player better than i have

Cheers

I think there is no perfect mediaplayer yet (how many are easily available ?!)

The perfect one for me is :

- No noise
- Good form factor
- Hdd capability
- Good support
- Available (on webshops in France or Belgium for me)
- Good price
- Beautifull menu
- HD compliant (H264, ...)
- DVD or HD-DVD reader (I'm not in a hurry)

For now there not many media player for me : there is the Dueple, the HDmediabox from pixel magic systems,... but no one is perfect :'(

I don't want to invest money for nothing :(

Thanks for a good conversation

Hi Cavington
I Apologize for my delay on the answer but today in Italy is vacation and i was with my family around Rome.

Dueple 350D doesn't have HD TV Tuner as Tvix. infact i tell that these two solutions are similar but not the same. few differences. DVD Player for Dueple 350D TV Tuner for Tvix.

I have SKY and SKY wants a own decoder(with NDS protocol), i have this decoder and for me was important a media player with FULL and not READY HD support with a a DVD Player included. with the tv tuner i cannot see SKY.

i miss Radio Tuner and infact one of wish that i will ask is Radio Tuner and then for me at now is enough

Walter,

You mentioned Sigma 862X chip set. So which one, 8620 or 8621.

I think EM-8620 is the only one with Macromedia license for CSS decryption. If it has EM-8621, then it couldn’t play commercial DVDs.

walter.ciacci
01-10-07, 03:13 AM
Hi rocklee

I apologize for my delay but at today i have not yet tested this functionality.

Hi V770

The Chip is EM8621.
If i don't remember bad on the manual is specified that they can read any DVD Type and when i spoke with the support they didn't tell me nothing about that.

It is strange. one of main reason why i bought Dueple was DVD player. Other machines Have the same feature(Lan, NTFS,1080p etc etc) but no one has included a DVD player.

At today the DVD Player is the only feature that i didn't tested but i will do

Hi Guys,

I am interested in the mp3 functionallity of the Dueple. Can it handle M3u playlists?

i apologize for my delay, now is more difficult answer. the holidays are ended
in this moment i don't have dueple 350D. Some problem with DVD, technical problem
i sent the machine at the assistance and if they can repair ok,otherwise they will substitute the Media Player. It is no bad like support

MP3
Last media player before Dueple 350 was D-link DSM-320RD connected with Dlink DSM-G600(little NAS).
I have thounsands and thousands of Mp3 and with these two machines was impossible hear them, above all if i activated the Upnp function.

With Dueple is completly another history, i surf on the Mp3 folder "like a bat out of hell". it is incredibile the performance of the Duple. i didn't check for the tag and now we are waiting for one week. As soon i have my dueple back i will tell you this information

DVD
I have made this question at the support, i think that tomorrow i will have an answer(but i don't believe that Dueple cannot read commercial DVD)

New Firmware
Today is out another Firmware release - The product is growing

It is only my idea but i think that for a strong media player Hardware is strategic, software is only a code that everybody can improve, but without a good hardware never will be a good media player

Hi walter.ciacci,

thank you for the information. what about photo view. Is it possible to play a slideshow with Background Music. What about rotating the photo?

I have bought an Iamm NTD36 and it has also technical problems. Poor performance, no rotating of photos, often hangs when playing mp3s. I had a crash and Iam waiting since more than one week for any solution.

Therefore I am considering returning the Iamm and changing to the Dueple or the Tivx M5000.

Thank you Walter for your post!!!

I was about to order a tvix 4000 or a peekbox4, but now I will go for a Dueple/keyplug.

There is one thing I wanted to point out: on the sigmadesign site it is written that the 8620 series supports h264.

Sorry but I am knew to the forum and cannot post urls but the site is sigmadesigns

I also knew that all the mediaplayer (such as dueple, peek4, iamm, wivx etc) with the 8621 did NOT support h264; actually that seems confuted by the sigmadesigns site.

Maybe the chip HAS h264 support at a hardware level but it is not "expressed" in the above mentioned player with the existing firmwares.

What do you think?

Thanks

Just got my Dueple today and here are some initial comments Hopefully, it will answer some of the previous questions.

The DVD player WILL playback commercial DVDs. Checked on Region 1,2,3 AND 5 discs including RC1 discs. Also plays back backed up divx files off DVD-R and DVD+R discs. One VERY annoying thing though, when you skip chapters on commrecial DVDs, it pauses a little, stutters, before it plays back normally again. The DVD mechanism is not smooth and klunky compared to slot load DVDs and car CD players and you have to insert the disc quite far in before it grabs the disc and loads it. But it works OK and that is what matters.

The fan, a a lot of people say, is noisy when nothing is playing. Even on low speed.

Playback via USB and external disk works fine for me. However, I have not been able to use the LAN network play. I set things up exactly as the manual but still can't get it working. If any of you have managed to do it, please could you share how you did it?

I bought the Dueple ro replace my 2yr old Rapsody RH100 and, so far, the things i like about the Dueple over the Rapsody:

Better playback (also plays .wmv, will try QPel and GMC this weekend)
DVD playback
Nicer menu
Network playback (I hope...)

What I don't like about it compared to Rapsody:

Looks a little ugly
LCD display is useless. On the Rapsody, there is the track name and 'progress bar' much more useful
Noisier fan

Having said that. If I can get the network playback working, I will still think that it is a good replacement for me. If anyone has any questions, please fel free to ask and if anyone has the secret to the networking problem, please contact me. Please.

Hi Yeer31

For the network the name of share folder must be dueple. if you go on digitalall.co.uk web site in the FAQ section you can find the picture

The first time you have to disabilitate the antivirus program and once connected you can reactivate the antivirus(Only the first time you have to do this step).

Let me know if you resolve the lan problem.

For the fan is noise if it is high , with low i don't hear it . but in any case you can set
off and there is no problem

I see that they are developping a lot of features but in 2/3 month we understand better what is the future of Dueple. At now seems good

Thanks

PS: Walter sei un grande  !!! (sorry for english readers)

I also saw that statement on the Sigma Designs website. It is quite misleading, but what they are saying is the 8620 "family of chips" supports h.264. It should be stated as EM862x supports.... There are actually at least eight versions: 8620/8621, 8622/8623, 8624/8625, and 8628/2629.

The 8620/8621 versions do not support h.264.

The odd number models are the same as the previous model but are the "Non-Macrovision version" of the chip. I know macrovision has to do with copy protection, but don't understand it. Isn't this what allows or dis-allows commercial DVD's to be played? Is it the "Non-Macrovision versions" that will play commercial DVDs????

You can see the feature comparisons of the family of chips at http://www.sigmadesigns.com/public/Products/EM8620L/pdf_files/EM8620L_br.pdf.

It is of interest that it says the 8622/8623 that does support h.264 and is "Pin Compatible" with the 8620/8621 that we are seeing in the TViX, MViX, Dueple. I assume this means if you dare break into the box, you could upgrade the chip yourself:)

This morning i receive from Mr. Jun Lee,SavitMicro Sales Manager, this wonderful email

1.08 version of firmware is released and you can download it from below link.
http://www.savitmicro.co.kr/download/Dueple/fw108_eur/duple_update.zip

New features in 1.08 version

1) Debugging of video file play without subtitle
2) Display of audio/ subtitle in language
3) Debugging of DVD screen ratio
4) Support selection of video files in playlist
5) Support UDF file format in DVD/CD (For the files over 2GB, UDF has to be used.)
6) Upgraded compatibility with external memory
7) Upgraded compatibility with 120fps AVI file
8) Support M3U playlist

And I've just received CSS Certificate from the Association and my engineers will work on the new firmware based on CSS code.
Once it is released, I will let you know.

Best regards

Thanks Chad-R for your message. Hope it will be possible to change the chip with 8623/24 even if I haven't seen yet a player with such chip. Should be interesting to see how it works.

Walter until I read the review I did not realize that the display did not show any information regarding the file. This is really annoying don't you think so? The display is really unuseful this way I believe.

Regarding the last firmware 1.08 I hope it will solve some of the issues that I read in mpcclub review such as nero digital pb and the player that freezes.
Are the improvements announced by savitmicro effective?

Thanks

WHat you tell is true.

At today Dueple doesn't support H264 protocol.
I asked to Savitmicro and i'm waiting for an aswer

BTW thank you for the PDF Document, it can be a hope

This evening i will test a 1.08 firmware and tomorrow i will tell what is the status but as MPCCLUB describes, SavitMicro is making a lot of effort in order to give a solid hardware. yesterday i told, in two month we 'll understand if the support is strong or not. After today morning i can tell you that the time is shorter.
In one month (end of February) we understand, but i'm positive

My Dueple just arrived and now you can ask me anything you like.
I´ll tell you my estimation.

But for now I have a problem:
Is it possible to search for a mp3 file WHILE
listening to another file ?

This feature (if not integrated yet) is a must-have
and should be put on a wishes list !

Today I regognized a very bad quality viewing jpg files via component cable.
I will test it via DVI this evening. But the component signal is very disappointing:
unsharp pictures with bad resolution though 2 megapixel files. Plugged to the same signal way, my Rapsody RSH 100 performed better.
Perhaps a firmware update may help.

01-23-07, 02:52 PM
I agree with LGZahn, the picture viewing is not very good. But then again, I did not buy the Dueple for viewing photos.

I still can't get the networking to work even though the share volume is called 'Dueple' and Firewall is disabled.

Now, I have another problem. The Dueple will not play some subtitles even though it is in .srt which most divx players will accept. And it's not all .srt subtitles too, only some. It's all very strange.

All in all, I am starting to be dissapointed with the Dueple. I have 3 other dvix players - Rapsody RSH100, Mediagate MG25 and Avix, and although the basic playback of media files is much better, the Dueple seems to be very buggy to me.

I know it's still early days, the Rapsody was also very buggy to begin with but is now stable, so I won't be too judgemental but I sincerely hope that they fix some of these bugs. That and that I can finally get my PC networked to it.

Yes the Jpeg picture is UBER bad because it compres it some how.
I test it whit all settings off resolutions, whit DVI-cable and it stays bad comprest quality.
They should look at it for sure.. hope next update. ;)

The fix would be i think to fix the resolution and to autofix on screen size like 1920 x 1080

The same network problem
Firmware is 1.08

I created a folder and i assigned netword name DUEPLE,i have also tried in lower case mode, i set firewall off, antivirus off and until now doesn't work

I see the IP address of DUEPLE. If i "ping" this address i have this results:

It seems ok but DUEPLE doesn't see the share folder
Now i checking with my router, dlink 4300, if i set something wrong, but after your messagge i don't believe.

I asked to speak with a technical person on SAVITMICRO company in order to understand if a bug or not

Hello,
I'm italian too and this mediaplayer seems to be the machine of my dreams. The only concern is about PAL resolution : is it support 576i/576P ? I would like to play my commercial DVDs on native resolution and not in NTSC format (my TV only support standard resolutions by component).

No concern for PAL resolution. Support until 1080P
I already tested 720p with WMV9 and 1080i with some example downloaded from internet(Microsoft and other).
It is fantastic

I'm asking it because in some screenshots I didn't see the possibility to set the resolution to 576P/576i using component connection but only 480/720/1080.

Could you suggest me a shop where can I buy it in Europe ? If it's not permitted a PM or email will be great, ATM I found it only on Ebay.

On the setup panel you can set to 480/720/1080. 576 is not included but i can garantee that 720 is fantastic for your DVD in component mode

Please let me know if you buy.

Today I tested the new firmware with copy protection code.
Now a test dvd worked in the dueple which didn´t work before the update.
But unfortunately it reponds VERY slowly when turning from the menu to the film and vice versa.

But they seemed to have built a bug in this firmware:
My external harddisk drive that was detected without any problems before, now is not detected any more.

Arrg... :(
I hate being beta tester.

I have another doubt: can someone test if the Dueple works with external usb 2.5" HDs that haven't external power supply ?

yeer31
01-31-07, 03:19 PM
LordByron,
No, I don't think it's able to. It doesn't have enough power to drive external drives. At least not the ones I have - Mediagate MG25and Avix.

I fairly certain that you need a fair amount of juice to drive a 2.5" HDD.

It so strange. if i understand well you set your DUEPLE to HD/pal but every time your dueple start this feature is set to cvbs/ntsc. If this is the probelm i'm afraid that is a problem of your dueple. i set to Component 720p and it works without problem.

2)Write to Savitmicro(they have a website)

I try to talk my Dueple experience
I attached by component cable to my Plasma, old plasma that i bought 3 years ago, and support until 720p.
i set analogic/component/720p and it works
from Network as video files i can read iso, ifo, vob, avi files(what i write because i tested)
for picture seems no so good. i have a lot of jpg files and i can see by Dueple on my TV. someone,as you, tell that it is not the best. if you are agree we try to convince Savitmicro to do better.

Regarding the price i bought it with shipping cost(from UK to Italy) 375€.
DO xbox support 1080P?
DO xbox support 3 HDD(one inside,2 external)?
the DUEPLE Chip is much better than XBOX chip, it is young product and we told it from the beginning.

then everybody makes his choices. i have seen that in one month savitmicro has made 4(i repeat 4) new firmware. in the mpcclub forum they review this product and now they consider it on the best 3 HDD player .

Then if you want change, you can do, but if you don't want to waste your money help all the dueple people to make it a better product.

If you buy another, if it is no so revolutionary, you have to start again from beginning with more money

Hello,

I have upgraded firmware to V1.10 from V1.05 on a 350D bought in Switzerland. I now cannot get any audio (stereo) out when I try to play back a film from the hard disk or a DVD. I can just about hear the audio when I turn the volume right up on the TV but there is a load buzzing noise. On the PC, the audio on films from hard disk or DVD (connected by USB) play perfectly. I will be trying the optical output later this week. Any ideas ?

i haven't this problem.
What you can do is
1) downgrade at 1.05 Firmware again
2) Then install 1.08
3) Then install 1.10

1.10 Firmware was based on the CSS support for commercial DVD
let me know if you resolve.

Hi all,

Nice to have a forum, to share our info about The Dueple 350D

I have try to have contact with my problem on difrend forum's without succes :(

I,m ussing Firmware 1.10 eur

My Dueple 350D play's DVD (file's, iso) perfect with all audio formats. (stereo, dolbi, DTS)
I'm using the Digital (coax) audio output.

But my Dueple player have NO digital(coax or optical) audio when i play a (HD) file .ts or a .wmv file. (Setup audio DIGITAL)
But when i go to setup en set audio back to analoge, i have mixing down audio, on my (coax and optical) digital audio output.

Microsoft have demo HD file, this is a file that have with my DP350 no audio through the Digital (coax or optical) connector (Audio Setup >> Digital)

This Demo movie use a 5.1 audio codec.
When I Re-encode this file to a stereo audio file, will it play correct with sound.
But it is down greated to stereo :(

So i want to know the follow thinks:

1) Where can i find the max Audio and Video bitrate for the diffrend codec's that the Dueple 350D player support.

This because I have to re-encode the (HD) movies so they can play correct on the Dueple player.

2) Did anyone played a HD movie DTS or Dolbi-Digital correct his Dueple player (with Audio DTS or Dolbi)

Hi all

Hello Walter

Further to my experience with no audio from the Stereo Output to TV.

1) I did put the optical output through my AV amplifier at the weekend. It worked perfectly...full Digital 5.1.

2) I cannot seem to downgrade back to an earlier firmware, as suggested, as the 350D will not accept a firmware which it can see is earlier than the current version (i.e. suggestion is to downgrade back to 1.05 and then work my way up again to 1.10)

3) Has anyone successfully downgraded the firmware and, if so, how ?

4) As optical digital works (and co-ax digital probably also) I am OK for the time being, though I clearly need my AV ammplfier or PC to hear sound.

5) Would my best option perhaps be now to wait for the next firmware upgrade and see if that clears the problem ?
