I'm also in the same boat and considering purchasing SONY HTDDW700 or ONKYO 590.

I was surprised to see hardly any posts/reviews for SONY HTDDW700 when I searched these forums.

Any suggestions/advice ?

Thanks.

You do know that Sony product only accepts video and not audio?

Wha..?

I think you mean the other way around. ;)

And yes, the Sony (700) only has audio inputs. Which means it can't do video switching and you'll have to hook up inputs direct to the TV.

The Onkyo has one component and a few composites (not sure about S-video), and has two optical inputs to the Sony's one. Both have one coax digital, IIRC. I think the other Sony is more comparable.

Thanks for the reply....

I'm planning to use the HTIB with my Infocus IN72 projector which has a DVD Player (via component) and a Sattellite receiver (via composite) connected to it. So, I don't think having no video inputs will matter in my case - right ?

I don't want to spend more than $200 and want the most bang for my bucks. These were the options that I had narrowed down but any other suggestions are welcome.

A big no on the 700. The 900 is much better and would beat the s590 and is better compared to the s790. The ht7000 sony sells for 350 to 380 and includes a 5 disc upconverting hdmi dvd (That is only 50 or so from your 300 ;) ) . Anyway I would not recommend the 700 or the s590. Try to squeeze out the 900 or s790 or the 7000 - I think you will be much happier.

Thanks - I think I will try to find the 900 in one of the walmarts around the area - have heard they are selling for $150 or $198.

Another question..... I was also considering purchasing LG LHX-557 (as I need to buy a dvd recorder soon and this HTIB includes one) and connect it to my IN72 and move my DVD player to another room. But again, I am surprised that I cannot find any reviews/posts on LHX-557 in this forum.

How does LHX-557 compares to HTDDW900 ? I can probably afford to pay extra for LHX-557 as it includes dvd recorder but I am worried about its sound quality.

Thanks!

Sorry. I try to only post about those things that I have actually tried or used. Never have seen or used the LG LHY-518.

If you check out the thread "onkyo or Sony?" ..you will see that I'm in the same boat as you and basically asked the same questions.

Now.. I don't like the DDW700 because it "looks" cheap.. but I do like the DDW900 and Wal-mart has it for $248.. if you print out the page and show it to BB or CC, they will take additional 10% off.. the 2 GREAT things I've heard about Sony is that 1) it has 2 passive HDMI ports and 2) it comes with a powered sub.

The Onkyo 590 is only $159 for a refurb through www.shoponkyo.com ...much cheaper than the Sony.. but it comes with a pasive sub.. and there are some issues with the speakers humming when you upgrade the speaker wire.. there is also a thread about this on here with a simple solution of putting some electrical tape to the back of the unit..

So in the end, I picked the Onkyo 590 (since I have a 10 inch powered sub I can use instead) and the oppo 970 upcoverting dvd player.. I spent right around $300
