If I had those choices, I would pitch Pioneer VS Sony, and see which one is better.

I personally have PS3. And have been very satisfied with it. I'm more of a gamer than a movie enthusiast. Never had any DVD collection, so I thought this is a right time to start. enough bout me

Thanks for the replys but I wasn't sure with the Pioneer as I won't use the media part of the unit. I already have a Sonos for music and HD360 for pictures. So I guess, it's really between the Panasonic or the Sony. I seem to be leaning toward the Panny.

These players have to be a lot cheaper or the PS3 more widely available before I make the jump. However, I do expect to make the jump at some point. However, I don't feel a great urgency for the time being as DVD/HD DVDs are adequate for the interim.

Which Cinepro amps are you using Jack Smith? I love me some Cinepro. I just got my Cinepro 3k6 Mk4/ 240 Volt. I'm in love. I also got the Cinepro Mighty's (Front Left/Right). This is the sickest equipment on the planet.

I'm surprised that you aren't using the Cinepro DTP8/ Pre/Pro. I will be purchasing mine as soon as I can sneak it past my wife. LOL. Have you checked out their latest line-up? Anyway, glad to see you have some great amps.

The PS3. I wouldn't recommend any of the current standalones for the following reason:

Or wait until after the Oct. 31 specs are met by the new standalone players. On the other hand the PS3 has huge flexibility to deal with the advanced codecs, firmware adaptability though pip, persistent memory storage, etc.

Without question. The PS3 has both the horsepower and the memory to handle just about anything you throw at it.

ps3 without a doubt. get a standalone in a year or 2 when they don't suck.

The real answer to that is maybe. Always buy a player for what it can do today, not what some people on an internet forum are saying it will be able to do in the future.

Honestly, wait until October 31 or sometime in November for full BD specs to be implemented, if you don't wait some features on BD movies will not be available to you.

If you want good audio options, the Panasonic DMP-BD10 is the best, with DVD-Audio, CD support, 7.1 analog outputs, and Dolby TrueHD (with next firmware). If you want 1080p at 24 fps, get the Sony or Pioneer. (I think the Panasonic is better)

For now, the PS3 is your best bet. You can always resell it for a good value if you decide to get a stand alone player later on.
