I am going to be getting the Onkyo s790 and wanted some cheap, but sturdy stands.
I have found these at walmart:

are these good stands for the speakers that come with the s790?

Do the just drill in the bottom of the speaker? is there any risk of damage to the speaker associated with this?

Dont know if I would drill into a speaker.ever...if there is a threaded hole on the back of the speaker thats what I would use. going thru the L bracket shown on the site.

Is a front 24" stand high enough to get the tweeters on the HT-S790 at ear level for optimum sound? I would think 31" stands would be better since ear level is at an average 37 to 38" when seated.

You don't have to drill, why mess up the speakers? Just buy some cheap double sided tape. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and hold the speakers great.
A lot of people do that, and it's much easier to deal with if you wanna upgrade the speakers later on.

Yea, the ones that flecked posted up there are great ... you definitely don't want those stands from Kmart to be used with the fronts ... the fronts are too big for that flimsy stand imo.

I just picked up a 590S and I need some recommendations for some silver speaker stands. The ones flecked mentioned are nice, but they are black. Any ideas? Are the front and rear satellite speakers the same size on the 590S system?

Well, I was looking more for a recommendation from somebody who had some silver speaker stands. I certainly could've done a search and looked on my own, but I like to take advice when/if it is available before jumping in blindly. Thanks for the reply.

I saw some nice silver adjustable stands yesterday at Walmart.


I ended up getting some Atlantic black ones http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5019646
because they were similar and $15 cheaper. The room is dark so I don't even notice the color.
