I am looking for Jurassic Park Collector's edition WS DTS. Anyone have any ideas on where to get it (not leaning to pay $$ on auction sites). Seems to be out of stock everywhere? Help

You can have mine it sucks. I went back to the Dolby Digital DVD because in my opinion the DD version sounds better. J.H.

You might have the defective DTS edition, the one that says D2R1 in the inside hub around the clear circle. If the tech grid on the back of the case/box is in black - i.e., the part that says what language, aspect ratio, etc., the film is - it's the first DTS edition, the one that is flawed. The corrected edition says D2R2 and has a red tech grid. Later issuances of the corrected one, however, have a different numbering in the holographic numbers around the clear circle/hub. JP was the first theatrical DTS movie, and the DTS DVD is supposed to sound pretty great - assuming you don't have the defective version.

You totally have the DEFECTIVE DTS.

I just gambled and got a GOOD DTS used from dvdempire.com

Look for a DTS, if it is defective then Universal said they would REPLACE it with the fixed version.

so you know...the DTS version is AMAZING!

So is LOST WORLD and JP3!

Thanks my DVD is gold on the back. I just thought the DVD was overly ridiculously in your face. Believe me I love in your face DVD sound but this was almost manipulated to sound IN YOUR FACE! So maybe its the defective one but I went back to the DD version. J.H.

By the way i used to be enamored with DTS but not anymore. i think I just took all the articles on how DTS was better as gossple but after my own listening I think its just not better. I have DTS CDs and they sound AMAZING! but I would guess a DD CD would just as good. So to me the DTS/DD debate is just was over played.

DTS vs DD , not again :D

I think that even with "lossless" DTS HD or DD-TRUE-HD people would say a format is better than the other ;)

For me , it depends on the movie itself , and how good its sound mixed , 90% or more of the movies I watched with DTS and DD on the same DVD , DTS track was "just" louder , the other DVDs with "better" DTS track are just "better" mixed with DTS
If Dolby decided to go "loud" as DTS does , both would sound the same .

So, if the back of the dvd is gold then it's the defective one? I never notice any problems with it, but then again it's been years since I've taken it out to watch. What was so defective about it?

No this is what I am trying to find out. If the defective ones are low bass as described by johnson then mine is NOT defective. Thats one of the things i hate about the DTS Jurassic park. It seems like it was deliberatly tampered with to be in your face with massive low end bass and it just becomes annoying. I am happy with going back to the DD version. J.H.

So, are we saying that I should forget about the DTS version and just get DD 5.1 one? Regardless, is the WS DTS version available anywhere?

Your best bet is to go to a place that sells used dvds, like a Game X Change. That's how I got my Gladiator DTS dvd, which seemed to vanish from the surface of the earth a couple years ago.

When you find a used disc look for the #PEMC-D2R2 on the inner ring of the disc, it's the corrected version.

Well, I just bought a used DTS version and it doesn't have kweezr's numbers on it.

The numbers it has are: (BB207871R2SP01) J04C0629D (and another line's #'s): (BB207871R2SP0) LD41036C

Whew - the last numbers were almost magnifying-glass small.

So I guess I should contact Universal. I haven't had a chance to check the disc out. We've been w/o power in the Puget Sound area for a couple of days and I do video editing work so the HT has taken a backseat. I'll try and check it tonight - we got our power back late last night. YIPPEE! :D
No more doing video work with a generator going through an AVR battery backup in the 'puter and fingers tightly crossed. :D :D

I did find tiny, tiny numbers just now with a magnifying glass: IFPIL771 and IFPIL772.

That new series of numbers has already been discussed in another thread here, and it appears that if you don't have either D2R1 (the first defective issuance) or D2R2 (the corrected issuance), you have a later issuance which is just fine and is properly encoded with the DTS track.

Well, they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I assume that if the raptors (at the beginning when they feed them?) and the T-Rex bass sounds terrific, then you have the good DTS edition.

As for DTS vs. DD, on the DVDs I've compared - e.g., GALAXY QUEST, SPR, JAWS - even after making the +4 db (?) increase for DD, the DTS was clearly better. E.g., the explosions in GALAXY QUEST; when Sheriff Brody shoots the shark at the end.

'Tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. Soon as I finish my work Dinos will roam! :)

Good info on the rest. Love Galaxy Quest!

Yep, amazom.com. Two that seem good are House_of_records $24.99 (new) and spun.com has it on their website for $7.48(used) so I ordred from spun.com. I figured if I get one without the right codes I'll just ship it to Univeral for the replacement and have a brand new DVD just under $8 vs. paying $24.99 new and possible having to ship it to Universal anyway. Spun.com sent me my tracking info in a few hours and the disk wil be here this week.

My used JP DTS arrived from spun.com today. I ordered Sunday and they shipped it Monday and it arrived in the original case with all the original inserts too. So if you guys are looking for a company to buy from spun.com worked for me. My disk #PEMC-D2R1 so I'll have to send it to Universal for the replacement, but at least I got the disk.

I'm using a Sanyo Z2 projector, Oppo DVD player & 104" screen and the it looked pretty good. Maybe it's the way the player upconverts to 720 that helped.

I'm using a Bravo D1 into an HD70 at 720P (The D1 is upconverting to the HD70's resolution) and the video grain was pretty obvious to me (electronic look). I haven't viewed the DD Jurassic Park box set yet with this setup.

But we do sit 8-9 feet from a 100" screen. Too close but man, is it fun!

YMMV and does seem to. ;)

Great thread! I don't plan on making the jump to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD anytime soon, so my main focus is going to be looking for the best quality editions of movies that I can find. Jurrasic Park is one of the first I plan on replacing with the DTS version, so this thread was very welcome.

Unfortunately, my local BB and CC don't typically carry anything but the base-versions of many movies, no DTS re-releases, no Superbits. I've looked at some online sites, and was wondering if anyone has had experience with DVD World? They have dedicated sections for both DTS and Superbit movies. I'm wondering if they have the corrected version of JP?

Anyone?

I'm really glad I could get that information for everyone! And I'm even happier that they are still sending replacements, and 3 weeks is pretty decent turnaround for something like this. Consider how long a simple rebate takes----4-8 weeks!!!!!

Report your findings....what do you think of the infamous T-Rex scene NOW (where he eats the goat and comes STOMPING out!)
