View Full Version : Do Mustang electric screens have adjustable drop??? Need to know by Monday morning...

I ordered a 100" Mustang 16x9 electric screen a few days ago and have been unable to get a concrete answer regarding the drop. I contacted them but was unable to confirm this.

Basically what I need to know is if it has adjustable drop? and how many inches of drop does it have?

I was under the impression that it is basically a rebadged Elite VMAX but now I'm not so sure. The VMAX has adjustable drop and I really need the drop in my application. If this thing has no drop I need to refuse the shipment on Monday because I can't use it.

Somebody has to be using one of these? please help.

Thanks

ok...I just looked at their website and it does say:

"User-defined vertical position pre-setting "

Now I just need to know how many inches there is of drop? Anyone know? I need at least 16" worth of drop. (I think the Elite VMAX have 18" of drop?)

Thanks

Guess no one has a Mustang screen? Oh well, guess I will go ahead and try it out...if not we will know whether they have drop or not...but it's gonna cost me lots of return shipping if it doesn't :(

Got my screen today and I did NOT have to send it back....guess what the box said in HUGE letters "Elite Screens"...I ordered a Mustang screen and got an Elite Screen!! Anyway I am very happy, less than $200 for a 100" motorized screen, rf remote, ir remote, and 6" wall brackets!! Great deal. I will get some pics up soon.

I am very interested in ordering one of these how does it look with the projector on it. I made one of my own screens but it is starting to show some wrinkles and this screen being so cheap might be the right answer for me. I noticed with the optoma screens they have these flakes in it that reflect more making the pic grainy I am hoping this problem is just with the optoma brand screens. Where did you order it from?

The picture looks amazing. The screen looks very high quality, motor operation is very smooth. I am real happy with it. I will get some screen shots up as soon as I can. Please note that I received a ELITE Screen and not a Mustang Screen.

Also please PM the link to where you purchased the Mustang screen or go ahead and post the web site info on the forum (I don't believe this an issue with the forum rules).

Did anyone ever figure out how to adjust the vertical drop on these Mustang screens? Also anyone have any info on the wall box controller. It has a 4 screw connector on it ( the ones that dont connect to the power and screen) any idea what this is for ? 12 V control, Relay control etc?

The user guide/ manual really blows....Nice screen ...quite, smooth and looks good with DLP projector.

Ok here you guys go...

The limits are factory set and should not require adjusting. At no time should the screen surface be adjusted to lower the screen further than the factory set position. Doing so can result in the surface detaching from the roller. The only limit that should be adjusted is the down limit to shorten the viewing surface when necessary.
There are two limit switches (hexagonal sockets) on the left end of the roller and are accessible to a screwdriver/Allen wrench (4mm or 5/32”). The DOWN limit is the socket to the back of the case. The UP limit is the socket towards the front of the case.

To adjust the DOWN stopping position, turning the socket clockwise will shorten the viewing surface causing it to stop in a less extended position.

To adjust the UP stopping position, turning the socket clockwise will cause the viewing surface to stop further out of the case when in the full up position. Turning the socket counterclockwise will cause the viewing surface to retract further into case when in the full up position.

Can I get the info of where this was ordered? What's the big secret as to why it's not posted in the thread?

Any wrinkles guys?

Pardon my ignorance, but how to you hook up the electrical part? Is it an AC plug? Trigger switch?

I perfer a fixed frame, but I've seem these as low as $150 (92").

The one I have plugs into 120V outlet then goes to a white control box with 3 buttons on the outside. One for up, one for down and one for stop.

If you open up the connector box you will see 4 unused connectors on the top left. These are for relay control. If you look at the box you will see connections 1-2-3-4. If you connect 1-2 it will go up. 1-4 it will go down. At least it works like that on mine. Using it for the 12V output of a HD1000U DLP projector to get the screen to go up and down with the power. You need to use a 12V relay setup or the screen will just go down and not back up. let me know if you need more details.

Okay - they delivered the 100" motorized screen......

First off it is obviously used - been mounted before, batteries in remote, no instructions.

Secondly it is missing pieces - including pieces that are needed to make the motor work

I am dealing with customer service but am disappointed at this point.

pete300ex
01-09-07, 09:05 AM
They emailed me and said they are out of stock and probably will not get any more 100" screens but they would give me a 106" which they said was better quality for the same price. I am unsure because they gave me a model number I cant even find on their site. I might just cancel and order one from monoprice.

pete300ex
01-09-07, 04:02 PM
For anyone interested in ordering off the site that was supplied they discontinued the 100" screen even though its there. If you try to order it they will call you and offer you a 106" screen for the same price and same shipping. The man on the phone also said that the screen is better quality and essentially it was built to replace the existing 100" model.

THEY LIED. They don't have any 100" at that price. They wouldn't offer me any information till I called and bugged them a few times.

65cobra: Can I have the seller name and link too pls?

Oh and is it white or gray?

I was looking at the Elite VMAX100UWH 100" 16:9 yesterday on TigerDirect_CA which is on sale at 253$ CND. But add tx + outragous 354$ shipping cost so about 750$ CND... not so a deal finally.

Then I went to Softmagic_CA (which is near my place by car) and they do carry Mustang Electric screens for good price and I would be able to save on shipping cost and do the local pickup myself. Softmagic website is so vague about any details on the Mustang electric screens, not even a picture...

So now if I understand you correctly, you are saying that Mustang Electric screens are just rebadged Elite VMAX and I should get a VMAX if I buy a Mustang or this is an error made by the seller?

I need to know that so if Softmagic do carry "real" Mustang Electric, I must know if it have an adjustable drop too!

angel2167882
01-19-07, 12:28 PM
Oh and if Mustang are just rebadged Elite, it would also mean the material would be the same?

I saw that Elite VMAX sport a Matt White with 1.1 Gain and 50* H-angle... what about the Mustang Electric?

I also need to know if the back is black covered because the screen will pull-down over one of my basement window...

I ended up with a 106" screen from mustang. For the same price of the 100" screen because they told me the 100" is discontinued. Hooked it up last night and its awesome. The only problem is the edges curl a little but I guess there is a way to fix that. Not noticeable and the screen is really nice quality! Especially for under 200.

As an update - they did end up sending me a new screen, and it was 106" instead of the 100" I paid for. While the customer service did suck and it took almost 3 weeks I did eventually get a nice screen for a great price!

Wow I have totally missed all replies to this thread, for some reason I have not been getting my email updates to responses. I just tried to find the original 100" Mustang Screen that I ordered from the website we have been talking about and it looks like they pulled it. Looks like I ordered mine just in time. Was anyone else able to get in on the Mustang and receive a Elite Screen?

pete300ex, did you receive an IR and RF remote? Any chance you could post some pics of your screen to see if looks like the Elite?

Baum Threat, did you get a Mustang or an Elite Screen? Did you get it for $200?

angel2167882

In what I've could differ from online specs and pictures is:

Mustang come only with IR remote and white housing

Elite come with both IR/RF remotes and black housing optionnal

Also, I think both feature a black drop, Mustang with 12" and Elite with 18".

I could not also find any 100" Mustang screens, only 92, 106 or 120 seems to be available while Elite still carry 100".

Anybody can confirm?

Well I ordered a 120" 16:9 electric from projectionguys on Monday hoping to have it before Superbowl. They told me they couldn't promise anything. Anyways I received it Tuesday.

I got it for 249 plus shipping. And it came with a IR remote.

Some have said that they received elite screens when they ordered this but I think maybe that an elite screen was substituted by the store. If you look at Mustang's website and click on info about their screens it shows their information by Draper. You can check it out at mustangav.com

Anyways, for the money this is a great deal. Screen looks very nice and the movement up and down is smooth. I'll try to post some pics within the next few days.

I'm using this for my HD70 projector.

I do plan on upgrading to a Da-Lite screen down the road but this will suffice for now.

yes they do, i don't have mine lowered all the way down to the stops. I'm showing about 4 1/2" right now but i think there's either 12" or 16". I'll double check and post the exact measurements a little later.

Black border on the bottom and sides of the screen is 1 1/2" also

I ordered a 92" mustang last night. I'm going to pick up my HD70 today. I hope my mount being about 11' back from the screen is going to work.. I hope I don't have to scoot it back a few inches to get the magical 10.6' from the lens to the screen.

Once I get my Mustang, I'll post pictures.

Okay, I can't for the life of me find these sockets. Do you have to take the screen apart to adjust these?

to adjust the DOWN stopping position, you need i think a 5/32 allen. It's location is on the right side of the screen ( the side where the cable plugs in). Its just inside of the screen. If you look into where the screen rolls in, you will see the allen screw with arrows that say + or -.

To adjust the UP stopping position, the plastic socket is on the outside of the case on the right side also. I wouldn't adjust this one.

Okay. My cable goes into the left side of the screen if I'm facing it. My Left. I guess it would be the screen's Right? Is that what you mean?

I still don't see these, I got a flashlight and looked up into the area between the screen and the casing and I still don't see it.

I must be doing something wrong or just not understanding.
Or I somehow have a different screen.

I emailed projectionguys and asked about the width of the casing on the 92" diag Mustang. The guy said it is 95" - which is really hard to believe. That makes it too wide to fit the area where my screen goes. I had to go with a different screen.

fyi, I just received the MonoPrice 108" electric, found this post while looking for info on increasing the 2" drop. It came with a plastic allen head tool, but aside from that, and the screen, nothing else.

I was hoping for some instructions, but having ordered many items from them in the past, I'm not really surprised. They are nothing if not "brief", and in this case silent, with instructions. Great price though :)

As far as my experience SO far, I'll admit I only had time to mount it, operate a few times up and down, and my prior screen experience is very limited. It's surprisingly light at ~29 lbs, and I was disappointed that the drop was only ~ 2" (I need about 6" to avoid trapezoidal tweaking)

Also, the switch is an inline simple toggle, line voltage I assume, UP/OFF/DOWN. I was hoping for something remotely mountable, or triggerable, but I guess there are other ways.

IMO, it seems quiet enough, otherwise I don't know what I can tell you.
