I actually hate starting this - I wish there was a general thread that we could make requests for information re various releases. I don't believe the Tier Thread is appropriate for requests but conclusions. :)

So if you've seen either The Searchers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049730/) or The Architect (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0466665/) on BD, can you comment with reference to the Tier Thread perhaps.

thanks,

The Searchers is exactly the same as the HD-DVD. It looks damn good for an older, classic film. WB did a bang up job for what they had to work with. Will it look or sound like BHD or another recent film? No!

The only trouble I had with it was the fact people say it deals with racism and intollerance back when most films did not, but instead I took away from it that it's just another "red man: bad, white man: flawed, but superior" western. However, the performance by John Wayne is one of his better ones.

I mighta known you would be a western fan. ;) No need to explain the issues that a poor or dated master might bring.

Its John Ford - that's enough for me. I want older film as part of my Hi Def collection. Too much of what is currently available is for the "Keeyewl" crowd.

Just to get an idea where would people place the searchers on the tier list? And is the remastering better then the other catalog films (i.e superman the movie ext)

Thanks

The Architect is more of a made-for-TV film that doesn't look that good in HD. I think it is the way it was intended to be made. It is a small personal drama and is photographed rather straightforwardly.

I will make a comment about the film itself. It is flawed and has too many story lines BUT it is about a very interesting set of ideas that doesn't get a lot of attention.

WRT The Searchers: Dan Hitchman and others are right about this.

Yeah, The Searches looks pretty good for an "older" film. Well worth a purchase.
