This is sooner than I expected :)

.inrelease news today, Sony has confirmed that Marie Antoinette will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on 2/13. They've also set The Grudge 2 for release on DVD and UMD on 2/6 (we suspect a Blu-ray will be announced soon as well).

MGM & Fox have just announced the individual release of some of the Bond films on 2/6, specifically For Your Eyes Only, Goldeneye, Goldfinger, License to Kill, The Spy Who Loved Me and Thunderball (SRP $14.98 each). The others will presumably follow in April or May. It's important to note, however, that these releases appear to be single-disc editions, without the second disc of extras that were included in the previous releases and in the current Ultimate Edition box sets. So plan accordingly.

While we're on the topic of 007... consider this Rumor Mill worthy, but our industry sources have informed us that Sony is looking at 3/13 as the street date for Casino Royale on DVD & Blu-ray.

Casino Royale's release on DVD is scheduled for March 19, 2007 and will also be accompanied by releases on UMD and Blu-ray Disc.

It better be day-and-date. It's one of the main reasons I went format neutral. Releasing some of the older Bond flicks in HD wouldn't suck too much either.

Seeing as how I just bought the Ultimate Edition DVDs, I have no plans to ever rebuy the movies again for a long ass time.

Casino Royale on the other hand is a must. I hope I have a PS3 by then.

Casino Royale's release on DVD is scheduled for March 19, 2007 and will also be accompanied by releases on UMD and Blu-ray Disc.March 19th is a Monday. March 13th is a Tuesday. I would put my money on the Tuesday one being the correct one between the two, given that Tuesdays are normal for release dates.

I have had the new boxed sets in my hands multiple times at Costco and Target and Best Buy, but I have kept myself from buying them in hopes that they will be coming out on Blu-ray. It sounds like they will be doing single disc releases of the Bond films next year, and so my fingers are crossed for HD Bond in '007. I know I will end up paying a lot more money--and I have a feeling that I will be missing out on the extra features, but it will be worth it when I can watch the Bond movies in high def. (Except for maybe Diamonds Are Forever. My least favorite.)

Wow. That's exciting. Glad to see a good movie released. 2007 might be a great year for Blu-Ray owners. I'm going to pick up Casino Royale and For Your Eyes Only. I just hope $20 off $50 is still available through Google Checkout at buy.com by then :)

I'm not worried so much about extra features. I just hope when the older Bond flicks eventually get released on Blu-ray, Sony/MGM includes the original mono tracks. The 5.1 remixes on a lot of the early films incorporated new sound FX that were really distracting.

Well I had never seen more than 3 Bond movies before seeing Casino Royale, so these box sets were a great way to see them. And I'm the exact opposite from you becuase I think Diamonds are Forever is the best of the them (Nothing could top Casino Royale). I'd probably say You Only Live Twice is my second favorite with Live and Let Die at 3rd.

As for the worst Bond movies, I'd say The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, and Goldfinger. Lazenby was by far the worst Bond though, but at least the movie he was in was good.

Don't hate me, but this is the first new Bond I have wanted to see in ages, and I am really excited that my first viewing of it will be in 1080p on my fabulous ps3!

Great news, happy day!

now about lotr, and sw....

I have two small children and we are waiting till my 3 year old son is 5 before watching Star Wars (the original 3, haven't discussed the prequels), it would be so amazing if they could experience this for the first time in 1080p.

Your son will probably be older then 5 before SW ever comes out in HD. I dont know why you would wait 2 year to watch any movie though, put the dvd version in and watch the upscaled version then again in HD in a couple years if it ever comes out

Casino Royale was a very enjoyable film. Frankly I couldn't understand the disdain towards Daniel Craig from Bond purists. I found the gritty theme and the lack of any outlandish gadgetry to be a refreshing departure from the silliness of the past few Bond movies.

It'd be VERY hard for Sony to screw up this one :) .

when this movie comes to blu-ray i sure hope i have $1000 to spare on a player! i recently returned the Panasonic player...i saw this movie in theatres and absolutely loved it! it was unlike any other Bond movie ever made...in fact the only thing "Bond" about the movie was his name...other than that it was completely different, and thank god for that...movies like this will sell BD players! well, at least to me they will!

Am I the only one that didn't like this movie?? It had a ridiculous plot. It had a terrible, terrible ending, almost made me want my money back. No gadgets at all (I know they're trying to move away from that but COME ON!!). However, I'll probably get it anyways since it's still the best Bond movie since Goldeneye.

If they do the double dipping thing again with thin first releases followed by extraspecial director's cuts .... Man, I really hate that. Good thing that BD titles not being piratable should hold their price better on ebay than DVDs.

I just sold a copy of Underwold with the UPC bar removed, and a worn copy at that for $22. That's pretty good, I'd say.

I'm concerned as to how the HD DVD fanatics will react if this isn't released on HD DVD. Especially the ultra fanatics like Vurbano, Midnight, and the SUV guy. I hope they don't do anything rash. Jail or death just isn't worth it over a movie. But then again, fanatics live in a different world than mere mortals.

Well I can't speak for those folks, but this HD-DVD fanatic went out and bought a 20GB PS3 in large part due to Casino Royale's impending release on Blu-ray. There are several other exclusive titles I was interested in, but CR was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Same reason why people are hating on the new Transformers movie, they can't accept change.

They bitch about Pierce having way too many gadgets and effects, yet they bitch when Craig uses none and has effects that are used to only flow with the plot.

The Bond films are a major reason I just dropped $600 on a PS3 today. I was going to hold off for a while, but I literally stumbled into some at Best Buy. Well, Bond, Spider-man, and various and sundry others.

Just too much content that's exclusive to one player or another for this guy to only be on one format. I guess when one format or another wins, I'll just have to keep the old player around for giggles.

I might rent it. I doubt I'll buy it. It was like any other standard action movie. They took the Bond out of Bond. There's still something to be said for at least some gadgets, Q or now R, secret lairs, and SPECTRE!!

The only thing that was good about this film was the return to some physical stunt work rather than all CGI fakery. Yes, they still got an assist from the digital tricks department, but nothing like the last lameo Bond film.

I think Craig needs to loosen up a little bit, and perhaps I'd like him better. He's not sophisticated enough for Bond right now, nor does he have the same charm or charisma. That was Timothy Dalton's downfall as well, if you will remember: he played it more gruff and unpolished too with little to no sense of humor and history did not look kindly on those films.

You gotta remember that this new Bond couldn't shake off a small cute and cuddly flick with a tap dancing penguin at the box office, so I think I'm hitting the mark pretty well.

According to BoxOfficeMojo this has earned more at the box office than any other Bond movie. Not bad going!

Personally I prefer the slightly darker, less preposterous Bond. Dalton was good in his flicks, particularly the second, and the early Connery movies are great. From Russia with Love remains my favourite, mainly for actually having a worthy advisary for once.

Considering the overkill of gadgets in recent flicks (invisible car anyone?),imo it was a welcome change to see Bond having to use his wits, his enviroment, and his natural instincts.I like the Q gadgets to compliment Bond, not to be the only thing that keeps him alive.

As far as Craig loosening up and not being sophisticated or charming enough, let's remember that this is supposed to be the early Bond;he's still a work in progress.Let's give this guy one more movie before saying whether or not he's capable of acting like a traditional Bond. I like this new direction myself, showing Bond at war with himself over who and what he is: a coldblooded, unwavering assassin.

Dalton's movies didn't fare well because of the quality of the movies moreso than Dalton's performance. IMO, Casino Royale trumps both Living Daylights and License to Kill.In reality, both Craig and Dalton's portrayals are closer to the literacy Bond than any other actor who played the part.

And let's be honest, the opening scene, plus the chase scene, went a long way towards establishing Craig in the role.By the time the chase scene was over,I already liked Craig as Bond.Yes,that early. But he displayed a depth of emotions unseen in other Bonds to go along with his fisticuffs. As long as Martin Campbell stays behind the camera,I think the Bond series is going the right direction.

After a long parade of James Bonds that wheeze and gasp after a few minutes of fast walking, Daniel Craig's portrayal breathes new life into this very old franchise.

On PQ, I notice that the movie starts with extremely grainy footage (sort of flashback mode on who he killed just before (or was it after) he gaine double O status). Then we have perfect clarity.

This sort of contrast in grain seems to a good trick to bring out good PQ. Many other titles have tried it before on BD and HD DVD --- it seems to work well.

Trivia :
- Eva Green was also in Kingdom of Heaven.
- Daniel Craig was in Tomb Raider
