You can get a PS3 20 GB for $350 and and 60 GB machine for $450... straight from Sony!

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=tvvideo_hav_ps3&Dept=tvvideo

Go there (SonyStyle store) and sign up for their Sony credit card (sign up by 1/4/07). With it you can get $150 off of your first purchase if made by 3/31/07. Use it on a PS3 of your choice right there at the site for the huge discount. Simply discontinue using the card after you pay it off (I hate credit cards myself except for emergencies).

Wow. Gotta tell the BF that. Who can beat US$450 for a PS3 60GB??

The PS3 needs to be in-stock first doesn't it? I may wind up picking up another 20gb if they ever show these in-stock on their site.

They were in stock (my buddy took advantage of it). Perhaps news gets around fast. Likely they'll add a sales link again soon. In any case, the deal works as long as it is purchased by 3/31/07. You'd have to get the card by 1/4/07 though.

Good news Joeblow! They are bound to add a sales link by the end of March. I'm all over this!!!

It is only a matter of time. After calling around, at least 3 bestbuys in Toronto area reported receiving 60-80 consoles today. A fourth ( a new bestbuy near my home sold out at 11am and did not say how much they had).

----

This deal is not available in Canada. I will ask them at the store after xmas.

It doesn't sound like the first purchase has to be at the Sony store in order to receive the $150 credit for starting the new credit card. Am I wrong?

Just a thought, I wonder if the card could be used for $150 in BD-RE media, or movies that they sell, and then with the credit, making it free???

So if you use this with the new Toshiba HDA2 price of $400 (see other thread), you get an HD DVD player for $250...not bad.

$150 card credit after your first purchase. Do we know for sure that this $150 credit can be applied to your first purchase since you get the credit after your first purchase. I would think so, but is this the catch?

You make a purchase. It can be any price (or just buy a movie when you get instant approval off the sony store). Pay the balance off. Then you will get your $150 credit in a few weeks. Use it to buy more movies from anywhere :-)

the one-time purchase at SonyStyle.com is until you get your card. Then the sky is the limit.

Thanks for the heads up. Just got approved for the card. I'm sure I'll be able to find a PS3 by March 31st. Great deal! I wasn't planning on getting one until a price drop, but this is just as good.

OK, please explain how you can put that $150 towards the PS3? What do you have to purchase before getting the credit? I am not quite getting it. Maybe I am too tired from being up 22 hours straight. :(

They credit your card $150 after your first purchase is made, effectively making the 20gb PS3 $350 ($500 minus the $150 credit you receive after a few weeks).

I also signed up for this. :)

The 60gb also has WiFi and a multimedia memory card reader. Neither or which I need or want. I'm still on the hunt for a 20gb, which are increasingly hard to find over the 60gb in my area.

I think they mean before you receive the actual card, which has important info like the expiration date. From other web sites I've been too, folks have gotten the credit after buying a 99cent song on I-tunes.

So if I wanted to buy a $150 Sony DVD player and I used this credit card deal, it would be free (after the credit of course)? Am I correct?

If true, I just started liking Sony again. :) Thanks for the heads up orginal poster.

I don't know how they are on returns, but I intend to try and find one at either Gamestop or BEst Buy so that I can get their warranty plan. I would hate to have to wait 2 or more weeks to get my system back if something goes wrong with it.

I got my card a couple of days ago. Thing is, I already picked up a 20GB PS3 from Gamestop last Friday on my Amex.

Since Gamestop doesn't allow you to return any merchandise unless defective or unopened, I guess I can just order, say a 120GB 2.5 SATA drive from NewEgg and still get the credit, right?

You may want to double-check the Sony site on extended warranties. Do a search. I know they have warranty plans for their TV's which seem to be less expensive than others.

If you want the credit available when you buy the PS3, then buy a stick of gum with your new card. 6 weeks later you will have your credit, and then go buy the PS3. Since the money all comes out of the same pot, I bought the PS3 first, will pay the $500 credit card bill, and then when I get the credit, use it for $150 of free gas. In the end, I have the same amount of money left.

P.S. - I called Sony Style, and they said Sony doesn't sell extended warrantees for the PS3!?! Maybe they think it is too unreliable and they know they will loose too much money!?! I bought mine at Gamestop, and they only sell one year replacements for $60, which seemed like a ripoff to me since it comes with a one year warrantee already. I guess I'm screwed if it breaks after the first year....

That's actually what I did a few months back - I applied for a Sony card and then used it to purchase an HD A1 which was on sale for a little over $300.
Back then the Sony card offer was for $100 credit off your first purchase (doesn't matter where or for what), so in essence I got a HD DVD player for a little over $200, courtesy of Sony. Sweet irony...

Dave Mack
01-03-07, 04:08 PM
Does the first purchase have to equal $150 there though? Or could you say, order one BD disc...? My card came in the mail in 10 days.

edit; duh, the answer was above me. But say you buy one disc for $22. You get the credit for $150 leaving you +$128. Where and how could you use that credit? Anywhere?

I can't speak to the current offer but when I applied a few months back the $100 was received about 5 weeks after your first purchase (no restriction on where or what) and it was in the form of a credit off that month's statement

Dave Mack
01-03-07, 04:35 PM
Thanks, Roma. I wonder how that would work if say, you didn't have a balance? Future credit?

01-03-07, 11:04 PM
Wow, I didn't realize you can buy anything. I already had my PS3 but I guess I'll sign up and buy an Onkyo 604 receiver for $180 after the credit is applied. It's good others are finding it useful. I guess I'm glad I posted it now that I'll use it myself.

The fine print def doesn't say your first purchase MUST be at sonystyle.com. I know it does say it takes 8-12 weeks for the $150 credit to show up and you must make your first purchase before the end of March.

It also mentions that if you get instant approval online, that you can make your first purchase ONLY through sonystyle.com with the card info you're immediately given. Implying once you receive the card in hand, you can make your first purchase anywhere.

You can check out this thread on another board where they're discussing this promotion, looks like someone got the $150 credit fairly quickly already:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=40&threadid=1965335&STARTPAGE=1&enterthread=y

Anyone else speak with any Sony reps concerning it? I'm about to make my first purchase and am hoping the tricky wording doesn't screw me outta the credit.

Joe

You are misreading. If you sign up and get instantly approved, they will allow you to make one purchase at SonyStyle on your newly approved credit. All other purchases must wait until you get the card in the mail.

I read the link you provided and the overwhelming agreement from those who have done this say you can buy anything anywhere (by 3/31/07) and you get the $150 credit.

Only one day left to sign up people!

Well to me the deal only makes sense if that is exactly your intention. It's pointless to get the 150 off if you plan to just pay the balance off over time. I pretty much figured that most people who were taking advantage of the deal were going to pay it off at once.
