View Full Version : Way OT: The Colorado Blizzard of 2006
I just posted a couple of pictures on my BLOG (http://www.dogstar.org/drupal/blizzard) as well as a short video.
It was a whopper of a storm, leaving 5 foot drifts blocking our side door entirely and our front door partially.
We got another inch or two Christmas Eve. Now they are forcasting a further 18-24 inches by Friday. Talk about getting whollaped.
At least you are not force fed on a fat-farm:

Funny, my hair still has snow in it from running in the back yard with the dog. She didn't want to go out alone, but loves playing in the snow.
She ran though feet of drifts and porpoised through the deep stuff. Good fun.
I want to get pulled behind my Jeep on a snowboard in the middle of the road.
Sure glad I have coffee and wine enough to get me through the next two days.
And, the Shatner roast on my Replay.
Yeah, we're getting pounded again. I took some video on the way home from downtown Denver today--its unedited--not ready yet but will have it up on Revver soon.
I wonder if work will call a snow day or not...

Yep, snow day. More pics and videos soon. Just finished shovelling the drive and walk way. However, because of how BAD the first ploughing job was and how GOOD the second was last night, my street is far more passable.
Last night's drive...

creech, out of curiosity, how much $$ have you made on revver so far? was wondering if it's worth my while to put some stuff up.

About $300 since September. I figure if I'm posting video anyway, I may as well try and make a little money on it.

Any time you want to send snow my way, I'll take it all.
I was jealous of my brother when he was in Buffalo.
This Indiana winter has been more like a wet spring. (and I HATE cold rain) It was 60° today! That is disgusting. (although I did enjoy tossing around a REAL LEATHER football today with my 9-year-old daughter)
GIMME MY SNOW!!! Quit hoarding it all, Colorado!
I'll see what I can do. You could go to eBay and check out item 150075963257.

Dudes, on top of the 3.5 feet we got in the last ten days, I just got 14" at my house today.
And I'm not even in the mountains!
My lower back is sore from shovelling. I shovelled my and my little old lady neighbor's drives today. Ugh.
I like skiing in it, but I'm getting tired of shovelling it.
I'll take some pictures and video tomorrow. But yeah, it started snowing last night at about 10 and snowed most of the day. I got about a foot in Westminster.

I would quote Charlton Heston's very last line in Planet of the Apes, but it wouldn't make it past the swearbot and you all know what I'm saying anyway!
Why not me?!?!?!?!
Seems like every Thursday and Friday we should just expect another foot of snow now. It might just happen for a 4th time in a row too as early predictions show snow next Friday! Man, I just got my car shoveled out too.
I'm up on Green Mountain and so far since the first storm my tally is:
Storm #1 -- 34"
Storm #2 -- 17"
Storm #3 -- 10"
Total -- 61" in 3 weeks.
Good thing my KIA sedan was made for driving in the snow....oh wait.... :(
Ok, took some more video this morning of the third storm's aftermath. You can see it HERE (http://one.revver.com/watch/134803/flv/affiliate/26097). When I head out today I'll get some pictures for Flickr too.
To someone in California it looks fun.
Too bad nanotech underwear haven't hit the commercial shelves in time for the blizzards. Liquids spill right off, and they kill baceria so you can wear them for weeks between washes (I know you could do that with the old kind).

We had a teaser last night.
My wife came in after walking her Boxer with a few pieces of slushy snow on her coat.
Nothing. We have nothing on the ground this morning.
All we'll end up with this year is an ice storm during March madness.

Ideally, this is how my house should look from November through February:
http://sostang.net/images/whitehouse.jpg
(At a bare minimum, anyway. A couple more feet of snow would be even better.)
Heh, last night and today we had wind speeds that his Category 3 hurricane levels. It blew the snow around like crazy. We're supposed to get hit again this Thursday and Friday and then the temp is expected to go sub-zero.
Indeed it has become very cold. It just hit 0 F/ -18 C.
The madness spreads.
Local southern california TV News and Liz independently report 1/4-1/2" of snow in redlands/Loma Linda, and also Fontana. I saw on the news kids in fontana were throwing snowballs and making snow men. It don't normally snow in these places.

Oh, it was brutal yesterday.
I didn't leave the house. Well, I bundled up to go check the mail, and it was so painfully cold, I didn't venture out again.
Good times to have a PVR and DVDs.
brr! but, it makes the 15F it is right now seem downright comfy.

I'll take 15° any day over anything between 25° and 50°.
You bust your arse (doing something stupid, well beyond your skill level, as I'm prone to doing) on skis or a snowboard and the snow doesn't melt to it. You just brush it off!
As Mark Twain once quipped, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." The humidity or the rain makes me much colder than the temperature. It chills to the bone. My sister's place north of Butte, MT felt warmer at a colder temperature than the crappy cold rain we've been getting here this "winter."
...It was a whopper of a storm, leaving 5 foot drifts blocking our side door entirely and our front door partially.A white Christmas is *charming* every once in a blue moon or ten.
However if that mess doesn't melt soon, you may end up with a perpetual long cold winter. :(
Too deep to readily sublimate, (urban) glacial pack may linger into August?

Heh! Well, I'm starting to wonder if it will melt before spring. We're getting another batch o snow starting Saturday. Luckily it looks to be light.
