I have acquired a Sony G70 projector from my Company. After attempting to powering it up I had the error code 29 which I traced to a faulty 7809 regulator on the B board. Having fixed that with a new part the PJ still doesn't power up but the error code is now 39. I did manage to get the PJ to power up if I changed the input source early on to input A but since having made some adjustments and saveing them to memory the PJ doesn't powerup but immediately powers down with error code 39. Is this the brightness instability problem that some others have mentioned?

When you put the B board back into the PJ, did you make certain the G1 and K leads are on the correct terminals? You could get 39 if any of these are reversed. Don't go by the colors, check the orientation at the neck boards. If behind the PJ, the G1 socket is on the left-hand side of the C blocks.

Thanks for your suggestion. I checked these (G1 and K) and all appears to be connected correctly. I think I have narrowed the problem down to being on the green circuit somewhere. By powering up with G1 and K removed on green I was able to get the PJ to stay powered up. I removed the all white startup screen by setting the display time to 0 minutes. I reconnected G1 and K on green and the PJ now starts up with no error. I think the PJ cuts out with error 39 when the video level is high - probably on green. Also, the menu is difficult to see because there is a lot of horizontal shimmering on all colors - as if the PJ is not picking up a horizontal synch - regardless of what the inputs are connected to? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

I believe it's usually a problem on the actual CRT socket circuitry. I can repair that if you want...

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping to get this working so that I could sell it as a working PJ. If I can't fix it I will sell it as faulty with the fault described for spares or repair. I will give it a little bit more of my time before I give up though. What ever happens, either way, I plan to sell it on Ebay.

I'd be interested in buying the set as is...

I plan to list it on Ebay in early January.

As you can see the item is now on ebay. The item number is 330075901570. The ebay advert gives a link to my web site where I have more pictures of the projector being sold.

The mystery I have from my pictures surrounds the shots taken of the red and green lenses. These appear to show a small melt streak mark slightly in front of the CRT surface. What they are is a mystery - does any one know? They don't look like a CRT burn. I was wondering whether they might have been caused by me leaving the garage door open during the day and allowing sunlight to focus through. Does anyone know what they are?

Thanks.

Yes, your C elements on the tubes are melted. It takes less than 30 seconds to melt the plastic if exposed to sunlight. Those elements are discontinued and very hard to find..:(

Wow. You have aluminum HD-18's on that G70.

I know you're saying local pickup, but are you willing to send boards overseas and turf the chassis?

Yes, I am willing to do that. The winner would obviously pay for the postage and packaging costs overseas. It is an option to strip and ship!
