I have a Jvc AV-48wp74 thats about four years. Is there anything that I might need to do like open it up and clean a lens or something? The picture still looks good, but I was just curious.

Thanks

IMO, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am leaving my 4 year old DLP alone.

The day before Christmas I got irritated at "something" displayed on my 2003 model 50" LCD RPTV. So I opened her up to take a look inside. I took pix too. The mirror, located behind the viewing screen, is huge and heavy. Easily the heaviest component in the TV. The occassional spider web and some "stuff" on mirror. I cleaned the mirror with only an eye glass cloth.

Next was the projection lens, used the same cloth to remove whatever my eye could see, then placed a Kodak 4x4 one-stop filter over the lens (for better color saturation and deeper blacks, recommended for all Digital RPTVS---there are a few threads here about it). Reassmebled TV, and even wife says picture appears clearer and she hates this stuff.

If you choose to do this you have another choice to make. If you spray out the dust within the TV or not. For the most part, the trash pulled in from the internal fans won't find their way to the 3-LCD panels or Micromirrors for DLP. If you spray for dust, you may force the dust to settle on these devices and you'll have to open the projection engine to get access to it.

My Panasonic separates EASILY into 2 pieces. I assume most others are similar.
