so i just got my first projector, hd1000u, and i have no sound!

i am looking around for a surround sound home theatre system with a receiver and have a quick question. if i have a Mitsubishi hd1000u projector (has HD), should i buy a home theatre system that has HDMI?

is the HDMI only for upconverting dvds to 1080i? or can the HDMI be used for the audio too?

and what home theatre do you guys prefer (price range 150-275$) and why?

HDMI, in most cases, does carry the digital audio signal as well. There aren't too many inexpensive HTiBs that have HDMI inputs at the current time.

Based on the user manual, yes it does. The Aux button on the remote toggles the HDMI IN as an input. You can also toggle the HDMI audio on or off with the HDMI AUDIO button.

The S590 has no HDMI inputs. What other outputs does this projector have on it?

Okay, scratch my previous post, I had a brain fart.

What is the source device?

This projector has HDMI in, VGA in, Component, S-Video and composite video in. Basically all the ins you could ever want. That being said, the S590 has 2 optical ins and 1 coax digital in so the audio will go straight from your source unit to the receiver while the video goes straight to the projector.

Yes. Do you also have a DVD player? What about game consoles? All of these things will need to run video and sound into something so they can tie into the AV system.
