View Full Version : 5540 and Fios STB dropping channel numbers
I'm using a Replay 5540 with a Verizon FIOS Motorola QIP2500-2 set top box. When I record back to back channels, if the second show's channel is more than 1 digit, I only have about a 50% chance of it tuning to the right channel. For example, I record Scrubs from channel 160 at 7:00 and 7:30. When it stops the 7:00 recording and starts the 7:30 recording, half the time it records channel 16 instead of 160 (sometimes 60 instead of 160).
I've tried different box settings, 0276, 0476, 4476, etc. I've also tried adjusting the fine tuning options Inter-action Delay and Inter-Command delay, but I keep having the same problem.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? If you've had luck with the fine tuning, can you let me know what settings you used?
TIA
Forgot to say earlier:
1. I'm using the IR blaster to tune the stb
2. I've tried the same setup on 2 different stb's with the same results.
I don't mean to thread jack. But I am considering FIOS. Is FIOS all digital or can the Replay tune some of the channels?
You can use Replay without a stb, but you'll only get channels 1-50 and there aren't really 50 channels in that range. It's mostly the networks plus some Spanish and shopping channels. You'll need to use a stb if you want to get all of the channels.
What fine tuning options have you tried? This really sounds like a fine-tuning problem (or mis-placed IR blaster - verify it's over the sensor).

I've tried Inter-action delay on the default, on 100, and on 1000. Same with Inter-Command delay. I think the IR blaster is ok where it is because I can change channels with the remote without ever having a problem. It's only on the back to back recordings that it's a problem.

I have a similar problem although its not with back to back recordings
Seems to occur especially when my Showstopper trys to set the FIOS QIP2500 to 216 or 217. Seems to drop a digit, also sometimes somehow gets into on of the Search options (but not the one accessible from the FIOS main menu). Woks fine with the FIS remote directly but intermittantly with the Replay IRblaster. IRBlaster works fine otherwise. I've tried 0276, 0476 and finetuning also but no luck

I am having the same problems as described above. I have noticed that the channel being selected for programmed records seems to trigger the 'feature.' When changing to 213 or 214 it seems to eiher go to channel 3 or 4 and/or bring up the search screen.
FiOS is great and I love it. I have recently added a PC running Microsoft Media Center and it seems to deal with the QIP2500 perfectly.

From my earlier resonse in another thread:
Here are my settings and they seem to work just fine: In order and from the fine tuning setup here are the values (I didn't write down the labels and I don't recall them):
Yes
0276
Yes
3
400
200
400
401

I have the same exact problem - Typically seen when the box is already on the channel, but not 100% of the time the problem occurs.
Those fine-tuning options, how are they gotten to again? Is it when you're selecting the remote code, you press zones or something?
thanks!
p.s. I am unimpressed with FIOS. The speed isn't anything spectacular, they frequently change the channel lineups, their DNS is pretty bad, and their billing practices are shady. I'll probably go back to cablevision (on long island, NY) when my "contract" is up or if i move.
that's just my opinion.

The serial port is now working in the stb's again so I would try that. Follow the directions in the link to get it set up.

So i would really like to do this with the serial port to my motorola QIP box (Verizon FIOS), but i have a few questions, hopefully one of which will answer why this isn't working for me at the moment:
1) currently, i have a 9 pin male to female serial cable going from the 9pin serial connector on the replay into the 9 pin serial connector on the cable box. Is this correct, or should i be using one of the jacks on either box labeled "IR"?
2) Where in the replay menus do i tell it to start talking to the cable box over serial instead of IR blaster? Or does it do it both ways all the time?
thanks!
edit: got them to reinit the boxes from fios, and it still isn't working. are my cables right, and how do i tell replay to talk serial?
and 3) is there anything to tell the cable box to have it monitor the serial port?
edit #2: Did i fall for a trick? Is TIVO the only thing that can control a cable box via serial, and replay is simply incapable? if so, oops.
edit #3: i pretended to have a satellite box (i don't, i only have FIOS), and *that* presents the option for serial. Any way to trick replay into allowing serial for a digital cable box?

One last try...
Anyone know how to get the replay to allow for "serial" communication between replay and the cable box - instead of only replay and a satellite box?
thanks!

Ya.. Add the word DirecTV do your provider that you use. :)
WiRNS can do this for you regardless of what the provider is.
