I have a question regarding internet resolution via the Wii. First off, the screen does not fill up my entire 32" LCD. I'm hoping this is because this is a beta version of the browser. My question is that is due to a lot of small text being difficult to read thus requiring zooming in. Is the internet resolution limited due to the Wii's video card/processor? I'm guess the fact that my tv is capable of 720p doesn't matter for this. I guess it makes sense that the limition on the games carries through to all screens displayed from the wii.

you are correct, cant do more than 480p, so text would look bad. I would supposed 480p will be better in case you are doing 480i right now (you need component cables for 480p)...

Hum. If Nintendo knew what they were doing, they would make the Opera browser capable of 1280x720 resolution. It's not like the internet is graphically intense, and if a PC with an integrated GPU can do it, so can the Wii.

I agree with making the browser support 720P.

It's actually been a couple of days since I fired up my Wii, but I don't remember the browser filling up the screen even with 480P and component cables.

For me it seems like the browser is running at less than 480p. I have black bars on top, bottom and both sides. Pretty annoying considering there is more space that could be used for image .

This is being discussed in another thread, its because the Wii doesn't seem to be developed with fixed-pixel HD sets in mind, but instead to be used with older 4:3 and 16:9 CRT based sets or older EDTV's.

Hence they programmed applications to run with overscan, to compensate for those displays. In the case of the opera browser, they appear to have really over-done it on the overscan though...its gotta be at least 10% or more, meaning alot of people...even people with CRT sets, may be seeing the black border.

Nintendo should consider including a menu switch that allows you to tell it if its being displayed on a CRT (overscan) or microdisplay (no overscan).

im using a crt with my wii and i lose a good 3-4" because of the black border.
im guessing it will be fixed before the final release but right now it's retarded.

Is your CRT dialed in, or a high-end CRT? I see a border on my CRT Rear Projector, but its calibrated to have 3% overscan so I see alot of black bars. The Wii on my average JVC set has no borders.....

Yes, there's definitely something weird about the way the Opera browser is outputting video on the Wii. I have it hooked up to an old 27" CRT (via composite), and it's doing something really odd with the video signal which is causing there to be several inches of black at the top of the screen. The Wii games don't have this problem, so it's something specific to the browser.

Minimum browser resolution is 800x600. Standardizing on 480 would be fatal.
