Dear AVSForum Members,

I wanted to see if you could help me out. I'm deciding between the Sony KDS-55A2000 and KDS-60A2000. As much as I would love to get the XBR version, it is (a) to expensive and (b) won't fit.

My question is that I had read somewhere that when you have the same resolution, on a large screen (ie. 55 vs. 60") - the picture quality suffers because you are trying to fit the same number of pixels in a larger area. So my question is whether overall it would be best to get the 55, rather than the 60. I would obviously prefer the larger screen.

Anyway - I realize that is a total NOOB question, but any help would be much appreciated :)

(ps. I have searched through other posts, but most of them are too technical)

Thank you!

While theoretically a larger screen always reveals more picture faults than a smaller one there isn't enough difference between 55 and 60 inch screens to really make a noticeable difference at all. If you were debating between something in the mid 40s and a 60 inch screen the difference would be worth considering but not in this case.

nmweb23.....Like Steve S said, there isn't enough difference between the 55 and 60 to notice anything out of the ordinary. For what it's worth, I have had the 55A2000 for a few months now and really wish I would have gotten the 60A2000. But, no complaints, the t.v. is absolutely wonderful. Either would suit you just fine I'm sure.

I went from a 56 to a 60 and much preferred the bigger screen of the 60. My wife did not notice the larger screen so there was no WAF to deal with and I got a couple extra inches of screen to enjoy my sports on! I did not notice any difference in "blowing" up the screen size in regards to pixel count either....

I went through the same self-dabate before I bought my 60A2000. The 55" unit seemed perfect for my needs as my primary viewing distance is about 9 feet.

When the store that I bought the unit from offered me the 60 for the same price as the 55 there was no longer any question...I bought the 60A2000 and I am extremely happy that I bought the larger set.

I am also debating on the SXRD size to buy. I find it odd that Sony would make three similar TV's in this range. Not a whole lot of difference between 50 and 55 or between 55 and 60. I assume these 3 sets are identical inside.

just some ramblings...

All 3 models use the same "guts." One of my main objections to the XBR1 was the fact that there were only 50 and 60 inch sizes, with a 1k price gap between them. The 50" was too small and at that screen size the 1080p resolution is imho a waste, while the 60" with side speakers was just too huge and too expensive. Apparently enough people felt the same that Sony decided to offer a 55" A2000. With recent price cuts and lack of spacewasting side speakers the 60A2000 is a virtual no-brainer these days.

Agreed! A 55" XBR1 would have been nice, as would a 50" or 55" XBR2 for those of us who don't quite have enough room for a 60" model without remodeling!

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I went ahead and ordered the 55 :) I will post some thoughts and reviews when I get the TV (sometime next week)

hehe :) It turned out it was too tall to fit.....the 55" will hopefully fit with 1/2 inch to spare.
