Ifd you google on XBMC 2.0.1 its the second to last entry on the first page... Sean tr4veler 01-09-07, 08:08 PM If you are going to get a compiled release look for t3ch. sean_w_smith 01-09-07, 09:40 PM If you are going to get a compiled release look for t3ch. I disagree. I think pimped provides better releases. They add more cool stuff that I like... Like more milkdrop presets weather on the home screen more skins.. if you want a no frilss version get t3CH. There is no difference in the quality of the binaries they release. I run the latest releases from both all the time and all bugs from one are in the other... Sean ChrisFB 01-10-07, 12:14 AM Can I get some info on the download to...... :-) Thanks This post discusses a new site. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9408424&&#post9408424 I always thought the FTP was easy personally. You didn't even need IRC login and the id/pass always stayed the same (for XBMC anyway). Xbins was a tad of a PITA though. RockDawg 01-10-07, 08:24 AM I disagree. Sean One thing to keep in mind is that the pimped version is considered warez and you usually can't get any suppoprt if you mention it's a pimped version. The only "officially supported" builds are T3CH's or those you compile yourself. Most of the stuff added in the pimped version are just extra scripts and stuff that's easily added by the user anyhow. IIRC T3CH's version of Milkdrop presets uses BritneyPair's bundle that pruned out all the "bad" presets that only ran at like 10-15 fps and deemed useless anyway. Of course "good" and "bad" are subject to personal choice. EDIT: I should add that although the pimped version isn't technically supported, that's easy to get around if you simply don't mention it's a pimped version. Also, I don't mean to imply that there's anyhting wrong with the pimped verision. I just wanted to give a headsup because both of the XBMC forums can be a bit abrasive at times and I was hoping to spare an unsuspecting newb or two some harsh responses by asking for help with their pimped version of XBMC. Well said RockDawg... Nothing wrong with the Pimped version other than it is not supported by the "helpers or developers" of XBMC. As stated by RockDawg you can get around this by just not mentioning the fact that it is a Pimped version. With all that being said, I always recommend the T3CH versions for newbs for the simple reason that they can go to xbox-scene or xboxmediacenter.com and get any type of support you will need. Just to clarify - those forums didn't start out as harsh. That's just the product of 100K total idiots who don't read, follow directions, and have no issue with wasting large quantities of other people's time to save them a few minutes of effort. That over several years tends to sour one and since most clearly indicate that only the T3CH builds are "supported" posting about a Pimped version very quickly lumps one into that group. I can understand that to a degree, but almost every decent sized forum has that exact same problem. Some (like here at AVS) are much larger and therefore have had to deal with problem posters even more than them, yet they still remain civil and friendly most of the time. I've seen numerous times where the mods there are so quick to assume that posts are stupid that they ridiculed the OP when they actually had a valid question. They also allow other users (not mods) to jump in on this and ridicule and call other users names if they feel the post is stupid. My point is that neither of those forums is very mature or tolerant of newcomers overlooking things and the subject matter (XBMC) happens to be quite confusing and technical when you first get into it. They could definitely handle things differently and create a friendlier atmosphere. sean_w_smith 01-10-07, 04:33 PM I can understand that to a degree, but almost every decent sized forum has that exact same problem. The pimped guys maintain there own forums and users help each other there... Sean ChrisFB 01-10-07, 09:25 PM I don't disagree entirely and I know what you are talking about. I do think that Xbox-Scene and XBMC get A LOT more "casual lazzy ass gamer kid" traffic than any normal forum given the console focus. AVS doesn't get much of that and that's a whole different level. |
