View Full Version : Should I be upset that I forgot to bid? Maxxarcade 12-29-06, 07:27 AM See this- Item# 180066682398 on the 'bay. An Ampro 3600 for this cheap? I paid over $600 for my old Barco 800 just a couple years ago... Console me :( alan halvorson 12-29-06, 08:37 AM I've forgotten to bid a few times. I've gotten over it. You probably wouldn't have won it anyway if you wanted it cheap. The last bidder always seems to escalate the bidding well beyond what I'm willing to go (I'm cheap too). Maxxarcade 12-29-06, 09:24 AM It went for under $250 though... I probably would have bid up to $450 or so. JBJR 12-29-06, 10:14 AM Yeah... but the other guy would have pushed it up to that or beyond. I hate when that happens. I have forgot to bid a few times also, really pisses you off at first then you get over it and watch the bay again for what you want. John tbase1 12-29-06, 10:18 AM if you miss one bus another will follow.....I just hope it's not a bad running one. ecrabb 12-29-06, 11:08 AM Low closing price rarely has any relation to what you might have gotten it for, so don't beat yourself up. The auction winner may have been willing to spend $500 and had bid accordingly. Often, when something goes cheap, it's because only ONE person was willing to pay significant money for it. Of course, it's when two or more people want the same item that the price goes high. Not that that you makes you feel any better. SC pcCinema 12-29-06, 03:58 PM It was an ampro... A bus that offers no transfer slip even if it breaks down before your destination. Look for a more reliable rider friendly bus. Troy none74 12-30-06, 07:32 PM Hahahah. ... I thought about this one for about three seconds....till I saw the BURNED TUBE visible THROUGH the lens...(it has to be a pretty good burn to see it through the lens like that...in a picture no less...) The buyer will have a rude awakening to the vagaries of ebay when he gets his "new" Ampro and finds how well burned it is... .....if it turns on, that is, after all, it IS an Ampro Lets see....$225. for a boat anchor, and another $400. for shipping because those ebay proxy sellers are idiots, total cost of $625. for a burned tube Ampro boat anchor... Just thank GOD you forgot to bid ! Also, for some more consolation, that remote is a USER remote ONLY !(Ampro's bass ackward, weird version of an IR remote with an IR sensor which converts to RS232...). You couldn't have done anything with that anyway, I don't think they'd even turn the damn thing on ! Rinx 12-31-06, 01:15 PM Hahahah. ... Did an Ampro hurt your feelings in the past because you seem very bitter :D Have you ever owned an Ampro? Just wondering because Curt (someone who actually has owned a few) says they are reliable. Maxxarcade 12-31-06, 06:02 PM Wow, and I thought my Barco 800 was bad :) Rinx 12-31-06, 06:07 PM Yes, I've had several. They are a great source of tubes, and if you add lots of extra cooling, they might even run for a while... Curt(who sells TONS of them and makes TONS of money off them[literally MILLIONS]) says they are "reliable"(and just happens to make money FIXING them too....). It's just that Ampro have several basics that they don't cover(like adequate cooling), and NEVER deserve to be considered on equal footing with other, mainstream projectors which DO cover the basics. Just because they use many similar parts as other similar projectors, does NOT mean they are AS good... But, like much of what is posted here, its just my opinion, ignore it if you don't like it. Wow, Curt is making millions off Ampros? Where's Curt?.... I want confirmation of this. :D So none74, what models have you owned and what specific problems have you had? HT_Fan 01-01-07, 12:44 PM Hahahah. ... I thought about this one for about three seconds....till I saw the BURNED TUBE visible THROUGH the lens...(it has to be a pretty good burn to see it through the lens like that...in a picture no less...) I hate to be a newbie but HOW can you tell that the tube is burnt? They all look good to me. What should we be looking for with tube burn? none74 01-01-07, 07:43 PM I photoshopped the picture that most clearly shows the tube wear to make it plainly visible. It is visible in the unaltered image as well, just look... http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q167/none74/AmproTubeshowwear.jpg deronmoped 01-01-07, 08:49 PM Do not tell me PJ's are now getting hard to find? Did Curt buy them all up:) I would bet if you kept your powder dry, you could find a killer deal in your area. Just wait till you find what you want in your area, contact the seller and offer to come over with CASH. Works, I have done it before. Deron. PAPALEK 01-02-07, 11:07 AM none74 reminds me of the die hard ford guy. If you were to give a die hard ford guy a brand new chevy he would hate it and say it was a peice of crap and did not work right. If you gave him a new dodge he would say it was a lemon and should be traded in. The only way to make him happy would be with a ford. You could give him one that was ten years old and needed a new motor and transmision and he would be smiling from ear to ear. He would say that it was the best thing on the road. rajdude 01-03-07, 08:40 AM Hey Ampros are not that bad! I got one (a 4200) and my family watches it almost everyday. wingryder 01-13-07, 05:58 PM Love my old Ampro Its a cheapie 2000D. I have two more in the garage for spares and never used them. I added fans all over it, I feed a ts360 sammy with a cheap dvd player. I have watched 400 plus movies on it over the last five years.. I converge it twice a year.. yes should do it more.. It just keeps working... In fact I work on it so little I have to start over with the manuals to know what steps to take. I watch movies with it.. lots of them.. and love the picture. Thats my ampro story. wingryder |
