Does anyone have any plans/examples of gaming seats that they use with thier consoles or pc based games? Not really looking for the gaming chairs that you can buy in stores... more like a wrap around/sit in unit with a Sparco or Recaro type racing seat with mounted steering wheel, pedals etc.

We have PS3 and Xbox360 games that we would love to enjoy with a full on race car setup.

Thanks.

Someone on the forum built one a few years back - I am sorry I don't know who to give credit to, but here is the pic:

My friend has one of those gaming chairs. I think its called the X-rocker and it has built in speakers and a subwoofer.

Thanks! Last night while surfing around I found these which are pretty much the style I am looking for.

I've thought about building my own out of 2x4s or 1 1/4" PVC, but I figured the former would be too heavy and the latter too unstable. I also couldn't find a decent racing seat for under $250.

The Hot Seat looks cool, but it's pretty pricey and forces the 5.1 setup on you. I use headphones 99% of the time, so that's worthless to me.

I think I'm going to get the VRC from Bob Earl Racing (http://www.bobearlracing.com/). Once you get the monitor stand, shifter adapter and pay the freight, it gets close to $500, but that's still $350 less than the equivalent from Hot Seat.

The problem I'm trying to solve is where to put the mouse and keyboard on a setup like this. I have a BlueTooth mouse and keyboard, but I need to attach a tray or something so that easily hit the chat macros when racing online. That's something that none of the pre-built chassis seem to take into account.

I was thinking about going by a salvage yard & yanking a seat from a sporty type car. They usually let parts go for very cheap.

Guys have been building things like this for flightsims for years. One of the originals was the Thunderseat (http://www.project777.com/?etxsid=-1&pid=3767&etxsid=a8a6527a1f4a73ab440f5da57a9315a6) (5th & 6th picture). I built something very similar back in my flight sim days using a seat from Summit Racing (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2DG1100&N=700+%2D128277+115&autoview=sku). Turns out that it is the EXACT seat that Thunderseat used. They just built a simple wood frame and charged you $250. I modified mine like the picture to add a 10" sub inside the base. An Aura bass shaker or two would give you a similar effect.
