I just bought my 60a2000 last week and my 360 a couple of days ago and I must say that I am disappointed at how jagged everything in the picture is. Some games are better than others but Marvel ultimate alliance and Prey look the worst to me. These are my settings on everything...

1080i on the xbox ( tried 720p but it made more jaggies)
hooked through component( vga is horrible and not an option)
the hdtv switch is turned on

So there you have it I am totally stumped. I am thinking about taking it back and getting the samsung since it does 1080p through component. If anybody has any input that would be fantastic as I am beginning to worry that I picked the wrong tv. Also, if anybody can take some pictures of the 360 on your 1080p set up close I would be very grateful and appreciative.

I don't think you'll fair any better with the Samsung. The games are still rendering in 720p for the most part (some less). I have tha 60A6000 with the 360 hooked up component set to HDMI and I thought it looked fine, just some games are Jagged like PGR3 (rendered lower than 720p for gameplay) but it looked that way on plasmas as well. The Sony set definitely does seem sharper than plasma's. I'm more annoyed at whites being a bit sparkly and will probably return my set and hold off for something else.

But you can't hook up the xbox 360 with hdmi so what did you mean by...
"I have tha 60A6000( do you mean 60a2000?) with the 360 hooked up component set to HDMI"?

I'm sure it's a component connection to his reciever and hdmi from the reciever to the TV.

The Sammy takes 1080p over component and VGA so I'm sure it would look better.

mcchupacabra,

I own an A2000 and an Xbox 360, and I can't see how the image looks "jaggy" to you? Yes, a 1080i 360 output looks the best on that A2000. Set your sharpness to around 30 or 40, and set detail enhancement to medium or high. The Nintendo Wii looks pretty jaggy, but not the 360 when playing hi def games.

What games are you testing (hopefully not arcade games)? Try Gears of War or Oblivion. The image is phenomenal on the A2000 (and I only sit 8 feet away from the 60").

Brian,

What solution did you end up using to convert the 360's output to HDMI?

What the hell was I typing :o Sorry.

60A2000 not 60A6000.

Yes, Rudy translated my babble. I had the 360 running component to my receiver then out via HDMI, honestly it looked the same as being directly connected via component to me. I did not try VGA as I read ahead of time it doesn't take 1080p over VGA either, only HDMI. Anyways my intent was to say that I wouldn't worry about 1080p for the 360 as there is no 1080p rendered games so it doesn't really matter. 360 still looks fantastic set to 1080i over component.

I had the Sony A2000 and now have the Samsung 5679. I wouldn't go through the bother of swapping TVs. Sure, it's nice to set the Xbox for 1080p but since the game is rendered at 720p it doesn't really matter. In either case you are scaling from 720p to 1080p, all you are changing is where that takes place (TV vs. Xbox).

Can someone post what all the other settings are set to when playing the 360? Eg, brightness, sharpness, hue, iris, etc. When I went to a custom setting to turn on the detail enhancer it changed the other values from the vivid setting I used before.

Thanks so much!

I just bought a 42" KDF-42E2000 (similar to the a2000 series) and have been pretty happy with my 360 via component.

I've tried tweaking every available custom setting but at the end of the day I still come back to "Vivid". I turned the color down to 40 and it looks great.

I'm having a hell of a time getting wii to look good though. I might make a post about it on the nintendo forum.

thanks,

Jeff

HD over component vs a digital interface (hdmi, dvi, firewire) is a bigger problem than the a2000 not accepting pure 1080p. 1080i=1080p deinterlaced. Wait for the xbox v2 with hdmi and you'll be happier.
