looks like you have enough done to show the game. The only reason not to show it is if you know someone who has a better setup.

I say go for it...

I think that you are misinterpreting what Greg is saying. I have two VGA cables in series... not parallel.

I have one VGA cable terminal at my half-wall. This VGA cable also includes an audio cable.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10201&cs_id=1020105&p_id=559&seq=1&format=2

Both the VGA/Audio cable are routed to my equipment rack. At this point, the audio portion is connected to my reciever / audio device. The VGA (video) part of the cable is connected to the second VGA cable
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10201&cs_id=1020103&p_id=3593&seq=1&format=2
... which runs from the equipment rack to the projector.

Thus allowing my video over the projector while getting "surround" sound through my reciever.

I get it. Couldnt I just use a VGA cable to go from the access point like yours straight to the PJ and not to the rack and then use a 3.5mm audio cable to go from the access point to the rack only and get the same result or am I missing something? I apologize for my ignorance as I am nowhere near an audiophile but trying to learn.

:( Dont shoot I am a BEARS FAN TOO!!!!:D And what a game last night!!

You absolutely could do that. The reason I ran from the laptop to the equipment rack, as Greg said, was so that I could have a switch to toggle between a HTPC (not currently installed) and the laptop. Of course, also as Greg mentioned, most HTPC's are going towards HDMI now anyway.

Short answer: Yes, you are correct. Going from the access ponit to the projector with video and access point to reciever with audio only is certainly an option. Personally, I like the flexibility of being able to connect multiple components at my equipment rack.

Its all about personal preference.

My ignorance will shine here.....what is an "HTPC"?

You need to spend WAY more time here Steve!

HTPC = Home Theater Personal Computer

-> Media center PC, PVR, etc.

Yea I sure do.....I found this site searching for "Bar" plans and now find myself in the middle of a HT/Bar complete remodel of my basement.....and to think the wife told me that A) I spend too much time on the net and B) that the net is dangerous!! Thanks AVS :D

Got a little energy over the weekend and installed the trim in the foyer and bathroom. Also installed the bathroom sink.

Enjoy!

Looking spectacular I love the tile color you chose very manly great work. I have an off the subject question regarding the vga cable that you ran to the half wall/breakfast bar.....have you installed a cover of some sort yet for it? I dont believe they make a cover for this setup so I wondered what you came up with for a solution so that the vga doesnt go back down into the wall. I was going to try a blank wood cover and cut half way through it to where I will pre-drill a hole for the cable to rest then probably fill the gap and sand and stain the plate to appear to have not ever been cut but wondered what solutions you may have had?

Also do you have any closer pics of the trim around the top of the half wall bar?(the trim peices you put on the top on the 2x4 framed wall) as well as pics of the trim work you did on the footstep of the main bar? Thanks in advance if you do

Hawkeye,
It looks like you have drylock or similar floor paint down on your floor as I do. Did you remove the paint prior to installing the thinset?

I'm tossed on whether to rent a small scarifier machine that roughs up the paint/seal coat or just leave as is and go with a laminate floating floor for the bar/bathroom area. The wife likes ceramic tile in that area, but also considering a laminate (pergo) floor. My local tile store said "most" of the paint has to be removed for an effective thinset bond for tiles. Just wondering how your thinset experience was in applying your tiles.

Javatime:

To my knowledge there was not a special layer of drylock or floor paint used. I never put any on and I dont think there was any prior. I did nothing special to prepare the cement to place the tile. I haven't had any problem with the tiles or the thinset and the installation went relatively easy.

I wasn't much help... but hopefully you end up getting what you really want!

It's OK if people are catching up to me... that means everyone is making progress on their projects!

I can't wait to check out everyone's threads to see what they've been up to. I haven't had a lot of time lately (obviously) with the summer and all. I hope to get back into the swing of things soon. I have done a few other things to finish of fhe basement and I'll be posting those pictures soon. Also did some upgrades upstairs - although posting those pictures doesn't have anything to do with AVS.

Thanks for checking back on this thread!

Hawkeye, great post. Just got through reading the whole thing...phew! I have a question about your seating setup as I have a similar situation.

How do you and your guests like the seating? I figure your do most of your 2-3 person viewing sitting on the couch against the breakfast bar which I'm sure is perfect, but how about that couch against the wall? Is it annoying to wrench your neck 90 degrees to watch the movie and is the end of that couch way to close to the screen for prolonged or sports viewing?

Really debating theater seating vs. couches and just trying to weigh the pro's and con's.

thanks for the input in advance!

Well, it's been quite some time since I've posted on AVS. As many of you already know, once you get a project "close" to complete and far enough along that you can enjoy it, it gets pretty difficult to finish the details. However! I do get a burst of energy every once in a while to get some more stuff done.

Here are a few items:
- Just put up can light trim. That's right! It's only been without for a few years, but eventually I had to cave. They look about as awesome as can light trim rings only can...

- Had a bunch of champaign glasses sitting in the bar cabinets in boxes. Got tired of them not being on display, so I built a glass rack for the back bar. This didn't cost me anything to do, I was able to be creative with all the leftover Oak that I had from the rest of the project. Pictures below.

- After a few years of walking downstairs and seeing the "boring" bar, I decided to add a little character. You'll see in the pictures below that I've created a rectangular pattern with leftover finishing trim - my fiance calls them picture frames - but I call them "features". I also wanted some contrast on the inside and I wanted that contrast to have texture. I was going to use leftover granite, but decided against. I was going to use a smooth surface, but decided against. I was looking around and I had just enough leftover Oak veneer. I cut the rectangles to fit into the "picture frames" and spray painted the Oak black. It turned out pretty neat with the grain patterns of the Oak and how the grain absorbs the paint. It's got a rustic texture to it. Notice the grain is horizontal on the black parts and vertical on the main part of the bar. It's the little things!

In the rest of my spare time I'm also helping on two other basement projects. Can't wait to see how neat those turn out!

I have constructed a hawkeye room in my basement. It is kinnick stadium with players painted on the wall. It is on youtube under keyword Kinnick but the room has been expanded and changed dramaticaly since the video was shot. I plan to have it completed this summer. My website is in the works, and if you are interested I would be willing to help with your project. Go Hawks. My e-mail is ringlehawkfan@hotmail.com

I love the look of the theater, pretty much exactly what I am hoping to build.

Would you mind posting the dimensions of the theater area.
