My Sony KF-60XBR800 lcd rear projection just started randomly turning off and then back on. It just started doing this yesterday and is now doing it 2 to 4 times an hour. When it happens the standby light keeps blinking around 34 times before the TV is back on and the TV picture is restored. It also appears to be 34 even blinks in case the blinking does indicate an error code as I read on a random google search.

I had it plugged into a UPS but I plugged it into a seperate surge strip just to check if the UPS was messing with it. I have already unplugged it for a few minutes and removed all the remotes from the room just to be safe. I am about to unplug it for several hours as I have read that also might help reset it. I bought the TV in late Nov 2003.

Any help would REALLY be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here is what my problem was in case anyone has this happen to them in the future.

The problem got so bad that is was turning off after 20 seconds of being on, then 20 to 30 seconds to turn back on, and repeat. I had a tech come out and he said 60% of the time it is a problem with the lamp and the other 40% it is the engine or something board (he did not speak clear english but it sounded like balance board).

Regardless, he put a new lamp in and it now works fine. Nothing I have read about lamps going bad has this symptom but this was for sure what was wrong in my case.

Other symptoms I had was that when it had shut off and was turning back on if I hit the power button it would give me the error code of 5 blinks, pause, 5 blinks, pause, etc.. Also, if I went into the error menu it did not have any new errors. You can get to the error menu by first turning your sony off then hit Display, 5, Vol down, Power. And for those who want to know how to get into the service menu it is Display, 5, Vol up, Power. BUT BE VERY CAREFUL IN THE SERVICE MENU IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!

Same thing happend to me a week before Christmas. Although it took some time, there are similar reports in some of the very long threads on "tweaks" and "how's your GWII doing?". However, since the threads are rather large, the symptom and fix are difficult to find. Once found, though, they were spot on! Thanks AVS posters!

I had 7500 hrs, btw. Found a new bulb in stock...TV was down for a day.

I have the same problem with my tv. I have an unbelievable 11849 hours on my bulb. Since I have the same symptoms, I will try getting a new bulb since I must be due.
