Hey gang,

I'm currently running an LVM-37w3 as my primary PC monitor ("powered" by a single NVIDIA 8800 GTX). When I first setup the Westi, I tried going the DVI-out (graphics card) to DVI-in (monitor) route, but experienced a great deal of in-game ghosting, and even static images were strangely distorted -- the only way I can describe it is to say that it seemed like the monitor was running at the wrong refresh rate, e.g. text was sharp but very, very subtly vibrating/shaking. I tried running at both 59Hz and 60Hz, but it made no difference.

On a hunch, I unplugged the DVI cable and tried VGA instead (DVI-out from my PC to VGA-in on the Westi), and now everything looks great. But I'm still wondering what in the world was going on with my DVI connection. I know my DVI cable works because I just had it plugged into a widescreen Dell monitor and everything was fine. Also, there's clearly nothing wrong with my video card – it’s been running a 30” Dell monitor for weeks without any ghosting or distortion.

I know a lot about PCs (and I don’t overclock), but this one has me a little perplexed. I suppose it could just be that both of the DVI connectors on my Westi are defective, but that’s not what this feels like…years ago, with a totally different PC and monitor (in that case, a digital-ish CRT) I remember experiencing the same sort of “vibrating/shaking” distortion when using a DVI connection. I switched over to VGA and the problem went away.

Is this common? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Ended up solving the problem myself, but I'll leave this up in case anyone else runs into the same problem. Basically, it was just a video card driver issue. All I had to do was install the latest ForceWare drivers from NVIDIA (97.44).

It's always the simplest things you forget to try first. ;-)

When you use the Westinghouse monitors, can they be run at their native resolution with no trouble?

Some are 1366x768 and others are 1920x1080. My laptop has a native res of 1920x1080 and it'd be nice to have a 37 or 42" "monitor" to dock my laptop into that can run in native rez over DVI.

I have no problem running native rez. DVI on the Westy at all. I was also going to mention to the OP to try the second DVI as well but I see he's got'r under control now. It is a pretty special monitor for a pc and pretty good overall for everything else and a solid price/performance winner for sure.
