Hey all,

Luckily got a Wii a few days ago. I'm interested to see if anyone who's played some GC games through the Wii on a larger HDTV (40" and up) has any suggestions.

I'm thinking of buying back some oldie but goodie games and wondering how they'll look/run on the Wii. The ones I'm considering again are Eternal Darkness, Luigi's Mansion, and Resident Evil 4. I know all of these are 480p, but ED is the only 16x9 one of that bunch. I'm sure I'm forgetting some great games that do 16x9 and 480p.

I did check out Metroid Prime and it held up really nicely on my 42" LCD.

Any suggestions in general?

Thanks,
Joe

F-Zero GX is beautiful at HD.

Silky smooth 60FPS gameplay and 480P. Once you master a few tracks, you will be hooked. It takes a little practice though ;)

Eternal Darkness is one of my all-time favorites! Don't pass it up. Would love to see how it looks in 480p 16X9. Unfortunately I cannot find a Wii or component cables for my Cube.

Here are some other no-brainer GC classics:

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Resident Evil 4
Pikmin 2
Metroid Prime & Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
F-Zero GX
Viewtiful Joe
Paper Mario The 1000 Year Door

Super Mario Strikers is amazing fun, still play that nearly every night. Runs in 480p, 16:9, with Pro-Logic II surround. Very nice.

If you enjoy fighting games, Soul Caliber II is also great and also runs 480p, 16:9. Super Smash Bro's is also fantastic and is 480p, 4:3.

Star Fox Adventure is 480p, 16:9 but the game is (in my opinion) a B- if Zelda is considered an A. It's a great looking game and reasonably fun, but it's less about puzzles and more about time consuming quests.

Super Monkey Ball 2 is also a good choice; 480p, 16:9. It's probably the hardest game in existence though -- harder than the new Super Moneky Ball Banana Blitz for the Wii. If you like a challenge, it's a great.

Actually, RE4 looks like trash in 480p- since it's not a widescreen title, it looks all strecthed and pixelated.

ED looks great. I wished they would have expanded on that franchise. I'm sick of Mario/Zelda/Kirby/Yoshi/Donkey Kong etc... ED was a fresh idea that got abandoned, even though it sold well. A Wii ED game would make my day.

Also, if you din't play it on Xbox/PS2, Simpsons Hit and Run is a blast, and looks good in 480p.

Starfox assualt is also a good one.

480p doesn't force widescreen. RE4 looks great in 480p, 4:3 -- don't let your darn TV stretch it out to 16:9. 480p 4:3 is still considerably better than 480i 4:3. I won't play RE4 in anything less than 480p.

<offtopic> Eternal Darkness wasn't abandoned. The company that made it -- Silicon Knights -- finished up their contract with Nintendo and ended up moving to Microsoft to make 360 games. They are currently working on a title called Too Human, and have confirmed that a sequel to ED will be coming out on the 360 sometime next year or early 2008. </offtopic>

Ah, see my TV will only display 4:3 480p stretched (actually any 4:3 signal coming through component), unless the device sending the signal is set to do otherwise. It's a shame it isn't a 16:9 game regardless.

That's awesome news. I had no idea they were the same devs that were doing Too Human.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I wanted to add that I picked up Alien Hominid and it looks and runs fantastic on 480p on my set. It's not a 16x9 game, but still looks great stretched, always loved this game too.
